  1. Wizards, Druids or ciphers work just fine, it really makes little difference, you just have to adjust your play style slightly, for your first play through I would really go with the class you think is coolest. Again, don't worry to much about the companions just go with the ones you like. For me Druids rock, they have always been my favourite class, so I am biased, but they have probably the most variety in their play style out of all the casters. I find ciphers are great at first but get a bit boring later on as you tend to use the same spells over and over. Wizards fit somewhere in between the two with regards to variety. You can build a caster type or go melee. Both are fun and both do dps or buffing excellently. But a Druids shapeshift is awesome fun and pretty effective and they have loads of different spells available at all times.
  2. Man, the blacksmith quest merc at black meadow just won't ever die. I swear he is a ****roach in disguise. If Ondra ever felt the need to drop another mountain on Eora again he would be fine... Abbydon should just have sent him in his place....
  3. It's because Tall Grass has 10% Hit to Crit chance and with durgan enchantment it becomes 25%. Ok, thanks, I thought I was going mad, there was a constant "I'm sure tall grass prones more" feeling. Maybe I should read the descriptions more carefully!
  4. Just remembered, Vile Loners lance might be worth it if you use Boeroers interrupt barbarian.
  5. I will probably try Tall grass this time - not sure if its worth it though, it seems to work just fine upgraded to superior. But it's wicked on a barbarian. I seem to get prone more reliably with it than We Toki - probably because of the reach which makes it much easier especially if you have 4 frontliners. I'd agree Persistence is a no brainer though only if you have a Ranger.
  6. ^ rimecutter is great but it can be a real pain getting hold of it unless you console it in. I've got it once in quite a few play through so whereas resolution and bittercut are easy to get and arrive really early. But yeah rimecutter is great....
  7. I have a major issue with the whole good/evil issue. For the most part it's a very simplistic way of defining things. The only character who the term evil can be applied to is Durance. For the rest including DOC it becomes subjective. Is the devil evil for instance, for attempting to revenge her family? This in a world where there are no courts, no police, no other way for her to get justice. I'm not so sure. Pellagina is tough to answer. She has a moral center as evidenced by her intentions in her quest, but she also follows orders from her dukes. Presumably someone who is opposed to them would think she is evil for doing their bidding. Eder seems as good as you can get, except I'd imagine the people from Readceras would disagree. Also he has some rather rascist tendencies, admittedly unintentional and ignorant, but rascist nonetheless. See his comments to Hiravious regarding wild Orlans. Hiravious though is pretty open minded and tolerant if a bit rough around the edges. Overall though I'd say the good vs evil thing is ridicoulous mainly because everyone has the potential to do good or evil. It's such a false way of labeling complex behaviour that it makes no sense. Unless you are referring to the stupid evil alignment system of D&D where you had to be evil for evils sake. Including tattooing a "I am evil tatto" on your forehead.
  8. Hmm, you never heard about discounts then. Of course displayed prices in shops are the same for everyone, but if you talk directly to the manager he might agree to sell you for a better price if you're a good client or if you buy a large quantity. Lol we not talking about discounts here, rather about price gouging starving people....
  9. I'd go with either a Druid or monk out of that list. Sagani, Hiravias, Pellagina,Meneha(xp2), Eder and Zahua(xp1). For me those were the most fun, both from a character and class point of view. Those are the ones I consistently mix and match to keep with me. Durance and Grieving mother are well written but excruciatingly painful to talk too! Devil of Caroc has a great story, fantastic writing even though it's short, but the end bit makes me want to cry.... Kana is a nice character but he just loses out to the top six. Aloth, well wizards are useful but I've never liked them. For me the expansions are great, well worth it. WM 1 is quite combat heavy with not much story, WM 2 the writing picks up considerably.
  10. Phew you guys like complicating things:) This is not about socialism, capitalism or even communism. It's just about right vs wrong. Yes, they are both asses, yes Sweynur is a troublemaker. But the one thing I do know is someone who charges different prices for food depending on whether or not he likes you, whilst you are in the process of starving is flat out wrong. Nothing to do with capitalism or socialism, though it might be trumpism........ It's animal farm mark2.
  11. I tend to agree with the posts, for me though the class does definitely not feel weak, it has its weak points for sure, but oh my, it has its strong points. I just feel that some of the talents are boring. Playing a monk is fun with torments or flaggelants path. Dragon leap for barbs while not an awesomely strong ability is fun. Rogue has lots of strike abilities which work great as they are, it just needs some more fun abilities....
  12. Yeah no one know how patching works on GOG, including GOG.... I tried Galaxy and had some serious issues ranging from the game not launching to re downloading the entire game whenever there was an update. Eventually deleted Galaxy and now manually patch and install. Better, but still a ridiculously complicated exercise. I've got a steam version as well, but I originally downloaded from GOG, it's touch and go at the moment as to whether or not I delete the GOG version and install it on Steam.
  13. Boeroer has had a few posts where he specifically mentions an interrupt barbarian. You should check out his posts. The basics were something like maxing perception, so an Orlan from white that wends and using the vile loners lance. (21 perception starting?) Can't remember many other details though, it sounded interesting but a bit min/maxed for me.
  14. I stand to be corrected but the ai makes decisions on who to target based on deflection and damage reduction. I have way less issues with squishes if I put them in heavy armour even the casters. They don't get targeted as much, and an interesting side effect.... They don't die as easily:)
  15. ^^^ yeah absolutely the stats do come down to personal choice. For me the only time I take perception is with the low accuracy classes, as they benefit the most from it. So barbs and druids get perception but rogue and monks don't:)
  16. I must say I think intelligence is seriously underrated for a monk. I realize that this is a solo build and min/maxed but torments reach and anguish are absolutely insane with reasonable intelligence. Had good results and loads of fun with around 12 int. It makes much bigger difference than you'd think.
  17. Nope, just that it leads to compromises, and before you know it you have dragon age inquisition:) Seriously the devs have a vision of where the game is going, having them create an option for every damn thing is beyond silly. If for no other reason than it takes up resources to do. I realize that the first thing you going to say is "how much resources would it take" Well the answer is actually a huge amount because by the time they have finished options for the sky color, an option for the interface..... Basically you run the risk of never stopping. You can never please everyone and frankly you shouldn't try.
  18. "There's a point at which presenting options negates the entire concept that games are designed with rules, and that players proceed to work within those rules. " ^^^ this Options are good but too many options are as bad as none. Trying to cater for everyone has gotta dilute the devs vision at some point.
  19. Not sure about the maths - mine is terrible, and while I agree that a Ranger either ranged or melee is very close to a rogue - and adds other benefits to the party, from a practical point of view I'm not sure anything comes close to a rogues damage burst rate. ie I think a rogue with it's strikes, kills things that much quicker, and while a ranger over say a period of a fight would do the same if not more damage, it's often the fact that a rogue will take down an enemy immediately instead of a couple of seconds. That makes a substantial difference in playstyle. But yeah, Rangers are awesome - so are Rogues:)
  20. mmmm not sure having different prices for food for different people is capitalistic. Can you imagine if shops started doing it. Would be some slightly upset people:)
  21. If you don't like the mechanic that's fine - it doesn't mean that it's bad, it just means you don't like it. I don't like some things about the game, doesn't make them bad, just means I don't like them For the record I think the idea behind supplies is good. The old ie games made vancian casting completely pointless. The amount of resting I ended up doing to finish the game, I may as well have carried a bed. Pillars is great, I can try and finish an area with the supplies (normally it's not a problem) and only occasionally do I run into trouble and have to resupply. And as others have said, there are often supplies to be found on the maps.
  22. Are you on GOG by any chance? I have had endless grief with the patches on their side. And Galaxy is even worse. Sounds like a problem people had with WM1 with the meshes. It could be due to not downloading and installing the correct patches in the correct order... If you are on steam, then sorry no idea.... Even though I had the texture errors at some point during WM1 on GoG as well, his problem can't be happening on GoG since as of writing this GoG does not grant access to 3.01. He also explicitly said he verified the integrity of his cache which should be a steam exclusive term. While I'm sorry for your bad experience with gog and while I also have mixed feelings about galaxy, I can't deny that galaxy at least managed to always download all my games into a functioning state. In particular, that sidestepped the problem of determining the order of patches and installation during WM1 for me and fixed the mesh problems, so I'm kind of grateful for that. What sucks about galaxy for me is the inefficient downloading because it does not compress data before downloading and redownloads all patched files instead of updating the differences. In particular, fixing of that mesh error took several hours of downloads because my internet connection is not the greatest. Uh ok well if it's steam then I have no idea! I tried Galaxy though and it was horrible. At one point I couldn't run the game. If some bright spark on the forums hadn't picked up that you had to delete a file in the Galaxy folder I'd have been stuck. Thing is I like GOG and I would prefer to use them, but their system for patching is a mess. And Pillars, because of the expansions makes if worse
  23. Just make sure you are leveled up and ready when you go into the commanders tent! There is a nasty surprise soon after
