  1. Bump... visual indicator still incorrect even after patch 1.03.
  2. I agree about the water in Anslog's Compass. That also made me pause to take in the scenery... a very rare occurance now days. It's strange how the game can look old school and yet have super graphics at the same time.
  3. 2017? God, just thinking so far into the future is depressing. But that sounds about right.
  4. Yeah, they should have more religious type mechanics... but priests already have that angle covered so... Not sure I agree with your reasoning here. What unarmed individual is going to attack a samurai type warrior armed with a sword that can cut through armor? (Please folks, I don't want to get into the finer points of samurai, katanas, etc. I just hope my point is clear). I think it's just more common in Eastern settings that martial arts > anything. But I think he was making two separate points.
  5. So... might represents physical AND magical strength, right? But in the dialogue, its always used as a physical thing (like "pick him up and shake him like a rag doll"). I'm playing an otherwise delicate and fragile female wizard, but I always get options to beat people up physically! So as a mechanic it works, but roleplaying wise, its just too ambigious. How about for wizards, it changes to a threat to change the guy into a toad or something?
  6. Well, roleplaying-wise, I hated that everyone besides the wizard in IWD is a complete moron. Isn't it fair that everyone should have at least a tiny bit of intelligence;) But it's hardly essential to the fighter classes. I think this is one thing they did right!
  7. So... getting back to PoE... I think arcane veil and mirror image are just fine. With hardened veil, you get like a +50 deflection to defense, making your wizard just as tough as a fighter. The problem is, as the OP said, it sucks having to use valuable time within the fight to cast these buffs. If only we could buff a little before going in...
  8. Now that's a good point! If you can see your friend has been charmed, is your first thought really to cut him down?(^o^) "You traitorous bastard! Have at thee! The monsters can wait!"
  9. I think they always just stand around unless you order them otherwise? I understand that lots of people actually want AI options to correct this!
  10. I guess that if you have the right build, it could be useful. But basically, I agree, it's much more fun having a gun-toting wizard! Actually, I'm playing a wizard as my main character at the moment. It's great cause I can also level up Aloth and then copy spells from him. But I don't really know where to spend my talents either.
  11. I think monks are fine as part of the lore. As numerous people have pointed out, there are western monks, right? (It's adding the "katanas" and "wakizashis" that steps over the lore line for me!) I also don't think its important that they fill a "role" or "balance out", simply because this is a single player game and I think more choice is better. HOWEVER, mechanically, I've always been disappointed in the monk. In IWD and BG, they use no weapons or armour, making them, in my opinion, boring to play (since collecting cool loot for your characters is half the fun in an RPG) In PoE, I applaud the fresh take on the class, but I still don't think they're fun to play as a main character. This is discussed in depth in other threads, but in a nut shell, I don't want to have to get hit to use my skills. (unless you roleplay a really masochistic guy, I was contemplating doing that;)
  12. Are you sure you didn't just miss the door? It isn't anywhere near the spider queen. It's in the bottom right corner if memory serves me correctly.
  13. I also found them very frustrating at first. Not because of their stunning but because they teleport to your casters and have great defense. Despite the difficulty, I think they add some flavor, since they're a little different to the usual enemies, but I can imagine them being a nightmare if you're doing solo.
  14. Yeah, everyone is moaning about bugs and minor details at the moment. It must suck to come into work and read that. So I'd also like to support them. You did a great job guys!
  15. Those were two of my favorite spells, but as others had said, it needed to happen. Silly to have ridiculously powerful lvl 1 spells (even Fan of Flames is a little OP) I'm still going to play a wizard though.
  16. 没办法!我推荐你自己翻译! Sorry, couldn't resist the chance to practice. Well, firstly, I sympathize. Some of the dialogue in PoE is really difficult to understand. Must be really tough playing in your second language. Perhaps if you can prove to Obsidian that there's a big demand in the Chinese speaking world, they might someday include a Chinese translation. However, looking at some of the other language threads (German etc.) it doesn't sound like the translations were done very well anyway...
  17. Hi, made a companion. But after a while, the voice got really irritating (they only play you 3 sound clips in character creation so its hard to get a good feel for the voice) Is there a way to either: a) change the voice (via console commands or something) b) permanently delete the companion so I can remake them? I know its a silly little thing, but thanks for any help you can give me!
  18. Durance and Grieving Mother were definitely interesting. Though at times it was hard to tell what the heck they were going on about;) I also like Aloth and Eder... those two are just very likable.
  19. Hello Mr. Red Sky. I've never heard of a typography nerd before. Your picture isn't showing I'm afraid...
  20. Is it just me, or are hired companions mute? I mean, you select a voice for them, but when you click on them or tell them to move, they don't say anything.
  21. I had similar mixed feelings. I'm playing with it off now and just went through dialogue naturally and now I seem to have 1 or 2 reputation points in everything (so a pretty vague personality...) The thing about role-playing in a game like this is... you're going to be helping a whole bunch of people with their problems anyway (how else will you get quests?), so I always feel like I'm playing a kind, benevolent character. If you want to play a character with more negative traits, I feel you need to work at it more. Depending on who you are talking you, yes, they might react differently. I haven't seen any major differences so far but occasionally people refer to it.
  22. Eder is not a bad tank. But if you want to go optimum, then you can probably create a better fighter (or perhaps Paladin) yourself. Next you'll probably need a DPS character to do big damage. I'm fond of rogues and their sneak attack for this. And since there are no permanent rogue companions, this might be nice to create yourself. Then I'm sure you'll want a magic user or two. You get Aloth (a wizard) fairly early. I'm fond of his personality but again, for 100% optimum play, you can probably create better yourself. Still, if it's your first time, I recommend just playing around and seeing what you like. Different strokes for different folks and all that.
  23. It was also like this in IWD and the older games. They don't want you summoning an army to finish the game (though that hardly seems to be a danger in PoE)
  24. Never heard of SA forums. And there are plenty of knowledgable chaps who played the beta on this forum.
