  1. Yes indeed, those skill trees are bare as Mother Hubbard's cupboard. I mean, even in Pillars 1, some of the classes didn't have too many unique skills, but somehow laying it out on a diagram at character creation makes you realize how empty it is. Don't worry chaps, I'm sure they're just saving some content for the Deadfire expansion: The Blue Tides Parts 1&2, which will feature an extra 10 abilities per class. Mark my words...
  2. I'm just kind of wondering... are the spells that are in the beta everything we're going to get? I ask because the top level (level 5) wizard spells don't seem to be too amazing. I don't know, maybe they were trying to keep all the levels sort of balanced so that level 1 spells don't become useless later on, but I like to see some distinct power progression. Wizards should be flinging pebbles at level 0/1 and dropping meteorites at level 6/7.
  3. Ah, I noticed that elemental thing today too. For a second I got excited, hoping that you could add every element to the druid's attack.
  4. Well, I'm currently trying out a wizard / beckoner (chanter summoning subclass). Sort of going for a necromancer theme. Anyway, as a beckoner, I can immediately summon 6 skeletons at the beginning of combat, which is extremely satisfying. There doesn't seem to be anything new as such, but as least you can get the summons out more quickly.
  5. How are you gentlemen. I have an interview with a gaming company on Monday. As such, I'm currently doing a little research about trends in the industry. As an individual, I obviously have a lot of blind spots (since I only play certain genres), so I wanted to ask your opinions. Speaking broadly, what do you think are current trends in gaming? I can think of a few: 1. On steam, PUBG is the most popular game (does that make it the most popular game in the English speaking world?) Why do you think this game is so popular? 2. VR: The companies are still pouring money into this, but I haven't got the impression that its really taking off. Do you think it will? 3. This is more last years news, but indie studios are making a big comeback these days. Why do you think that is? 4. One site that I saw suggests that the average age of gamers is 35. I guess that means that the people who grew up in the 90s (when gaming really began to take off) are the main market now. 5. Social games are apparently huge (I don't play em so I wouldn't know). Why is this do you think? And anything else! I would love to hear your opinion
  6. Maybe this should be a bug, but I note that when choosing the Devoted subclass, you're allowed to pick two weapon specializations. Doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose of the subclass? I mean, he's supposed to be a "devote my whole life to the mastery of a single weapon" kind of guy, right? Or does he get the bonuses for all of his specializations?
  7. Yup, or just let us create the whole team from scratch. That would be fun.
  8. Yeah, society (or at least social media) spends a lot of its energy these days validating women. Not to be bitter, but it does make one wonder if men have any value anymore. I basically agree with the traits you mentioned in your 2nd post Guard Dog. Not every man can be an action hero, but we can: 1) stand on our own two feet, 2) be a pillar of stability for our family, and 3) honor our word. I guess the beauty of masculinity is a sort of "stoicism"; taking what life dishes you without getting too worked up or emotional. As for the Japan pic (and I know you're joking), their actors and idols may be pretty boys, but the backbone of Japanese society is still the underappreciated, relatively unattractive salaryman, who trudges to work everyday to bring home the bacon.
  9. Well... no. I think people will still rest spam. I just like the "atmosphere" of it, you know? Having to pack food and choose a meal before bed makes it feel like you're actually on an adventure/journey. Like old Sam making his soup for Frodo.
  10. I like the new rest/food system. I mean, PoE1's resting bonuses were silly. Example: Sleep in a Dragon-themed room? Become superman the next day! I never used food in PoE1, so now for the first time, it feels like food has a point.
  11. My first impressions: (I haven't played the story yet, just messing with character creation and combat) Positive - Visually, absolutely everything is stunning. Love the character dolls, the spell animations, everything! - Love the new "poses". Especially that hunched, creepy one. - Of course multi-classes are awesome. It's fun to now build characters thinking of potential synergy. On that note, assassin / sharpshooter is the class I've had the most success with so far. Stay out of harms way and just snipe everything + you get an extra animal meat shield. - Empower is reasonably interesting. It's cool to throw one super powerful spell, although it's a pity you can only do it once per combat. (And sucks if your super spell misses) - Lots of little UI improvements. Like how you can see all the portraits on one page now instead of having to scroll through them. - I like how you've made a modal for every single weapon. - I like the eating when you rest thing. It feels much more logical to eat when resting than to only stuff your characters with food before a difficult fight (the only time I ate in Pillars 1) - The resource system works okay I think. It gives you a little more flexibility than just being able to use each ability once or twice. - Nice to be able to choose who does what in scripted interactions. Negative - As Boeroer said, single class characters feel a little narrow. I mean, there's just not that much on the skill trees to choose from for single chars. Subclass mages in particular lose so many spell options that there's not much left. Awesome that there are so many sub-classes now, but I hope in Pillars of Eternity 3, you'll just focus on making more abilities;) - Mages feel a little weak. Or is it just me? The AI can also get pretty aggressive with going after your mage if you open combat with a spell. lol! That actually kind of bugged me too! だってさ、we don't usually mix our languagesでしょう?
  12. Sorry if this has been reported already. I can scroll up and down on the map, but not side to side! It feels like I'm stuck in a little tunnel. Very uncomfortable to play like that. Just to be clear, the map moves when my characters move to the edge, but I can't scroll to the left or right independently of them. EDIT: I see that the screen moves if I double click instead of single clicking. Odd design choice... EDIT2: Nevermind, changing the resolution seems to have fixed this... Also, small bug that doesn't deserve its own thread: Spelling mistake in Vektor's speech (His gaze darts from on grass shack to another)
  13. Awesome! Best news I've heard all year!!
  14. https://twitter.com/jesawyer/status/913565055207194625 https://twitter.com/jesawyer/status/913579097292337152 Pretty sweet, yeah? Just saw them myself and wanted to share. The famous Ydwin looks like a vampire chick. Reminder: Bonteru- A mountain dwarf rogue obsessed with exploring the Deadfire and cataloguing its various poisonous plants and creatures. Bonteru has memorized the effects of hundreds of different poisons and is all too happy to describe them in detail to anyone who will listen. Ydwin- A strange pale elf cipher from "a lot of different places". Fascinated by animancy, Ydwin spends her free time examining fresh and not-so-fresh corpses. Though she has a charming and pleasant demeanor, new acquaintances are often shocked at her intimate familiarity with death and her dispassionate affect in the face of even the most grisly scenes. Rekke- An odd-looking man that the Principi rescued from a floating piece of flotsam on the eastern edge of the Deadfire Archipelago. He doesn't speak a word of any language that anyone can understand, but he's cheery and willing to lend a hand to any company he finds himself in. He's just happy to be alive(at least, that's what everyone assumes). Storm Folk fighter. Radora- Ocean Folk/Vailian human wizard. She has difficulty keeping a captain's position for long. According to her, she's at her best when she's had a few to "take the edge off", though she swears she never drinks at sea.
  15. Pretty sure there are mods for that but I don't know the details. Sorry.
  16. Yup, I also came to this thread to stretch my arms as far as possible and say, "this big!" Seriously though, I do think it will be a success. The common man will probably not know about it, but it will be the toast of the RPG community.
  17. Welcome Carte. You can reassign their talents at a tavern, but I don't think its possible to change their stats. And yes, the expansion adds a higher level cap, new spells, etc. It is highly recommended.
  18. So now that we know the wizard subclasses, we also know the main schools of magic in Deadfire. Namely: Evocation, conjuration, enchantment, illusion and transmutation. To you think the existence of a conjurer subclass means that wizards will actually get some decent summons this time? I don't know about you guys, but I was a little disappointed in pillars that all the summons were moved to the Chanter and the wizards were just glass cannons. Also, no abjuration, divination or necromancy... do those schools not exist or do we simply not get subclasses for them? I suppose necromancy is the domain of animancers in pillars.
  19. Sweet thanks, I didn't know about those. Trickster class looks cool. Man, its getting harder and harder to decide which class to go with on my first playthrough.
  20. This thread can now be updated with all the wizard and monk subclasses (recently revealed in the video). I thought the Transmuter wizard class was particularly interesting. You can turn into an orge! That sounds like a fun ability for a low level wizard.
  21. I don't think that is her class name. Gondandag is the first day of the week in the Eastern Reach. A bug made that string appear in the class table. But to OP, even if you can't select double rogue, I think it's very likely that there will be an assassin-based sub-class. I'm thinking of going rogue/wizard for my first character. Stab people in the bad, cast spells and disappear. It sounds like fun.
  22. How are you gentlemen. I went to the Tokyo Game Show yesterday. Most of the games being demonstrated were VR or augmented reality and it got me thinking about VR again. Some genres obviously work better than others. Dating sims, and well, porn, are obvious contenders. Any sort of game that could take place in a single room or area is also viable. Naturally something like boxing works (I played a boxing/karaoke game yesterday. Weird combination. You know how hard it is to try to hit something and read lyrics/sing at the same time?). I think a game where you pilot a fighter craft or giant robot would have great potential since the player just has to sit stationery in his c ckpit / living room and the events could unfold in VR around him. Secondly, what technologies to work on? Yesterday, one company was showing off a "smells in VR" feature (the headset includes a piece over your nose that produces smell). That seems to me very gimmicky. I can't see it being widely used in games. Rather, I think they should work on a more "glove-like" controller. For it to truly feel like VR, I think people want to directly use their hands, and always holding a controller makes it just feel like an advanced nintendo wii or something. Anyway, excuse my rambling. Do you guys think VR games are going to take off any time soon? Or is it another trend doomed to die? One of my favorite gaming youtube channels argues that it won't take off:
  23. That was the most exciting update we've had in a while! Those graphics are gorgeous! And the multiclasses look amazing! No matter how bad things get from now on in RL, I'm just going to push through so I can make it to 2018 and play Deadfire.
  24. Haha, thanks guys, this thread made me lol literally.
  25. Obsidian's companions are just as good. This game simply has a different tone. It tried hard (too hard imho) to be funny and wacky. I played the alpha a little but couldn't get into it at all.
