They can't really post here and agree with people who don't like the game. Also they can't really post here and argue with their customer. I mean they can but it wouldn't be wise. Best for them to take notes and improve the next title or deliver a better experience with the DLC. Also, they read these boards not during work, but during their free time. And, they have already had a hard time digesting all the vitriol on these forums for the past two years, coming here and reading not only harsh, but also unwarranted, personal and hateful criticism. I am sure visiting the general topics board is not number one on their list of hobbies. They should get used to it by now, the beta boards were more negative than these ones.

Vast majority likes **** pop singers like Gaga or Spears. PoE was being marketed on KS as a IE spiritual successor and made promises they didn't keep. Opinions are like ****. It's all good to have one and be proud of it, but nobody really cares about yours nor particularly wants it shoved in their face. Same goes for you bub

As I mentioned before, there's more factual reasoning in the OP in this thread than Constantine's thread. Does not matter. Mods should have merged both with the main RPGCodex review topic. If everyone would be opening new topics to answer posts in other topics the forums would be chaos and unreadable. Nobody should be allowed to do that.

Why are we arbitrarily limiting this discussion to specific combat scenarios? In the IE games, the function of the 6 attributes goes beyond combat, doesn't it. As it stands, dumping your Mage's wisdom to 3 means you're taking a hit to your lore score. Dumping your Charisma to 3 means you're going to have to pay more for stuff in shops. And dumping your strength to 3 means your carry weight will take a hit (and in the case of BG2, your weapon options will be limited). Of course, this doesn't mean they're not dump stats (because they still friggin are) But it DOES mean that they're about as functionally useful for a Mage in the IE games as Constitution, Resolve and Perception are for a Wizard in PoE.Dump stat effects are most important in combat. While these 3 stats are not useless in IE games they are useless in combat. And if want to look at non combat applications in PoE stats are also used for converstations and those interactive mini adventures.

Is this nothing more than mad ranting? Or is it the friggin Truth? Even before development of PoE began, Certain Developers from Obsidian were criticizing the attribute system in the IE games, accurately pointing out that those games had dump stats. They told us what we all already knew: that Every class can safely dump at least half of those stats without fear of crippling their builds. They Swore to fix this design flaw in PoE. They promised us No. More. Dump. Stats. Fast forward to 2015. And what a surprise. A broken promise. There are indeed Dump stats in this game. The situation is no different than it was in the IE games. So why should PoE get a pass here? Why shouldn't we level the same criticism and scorn towards its attribute system? That is not really true. In PoE wizards can dump resolve and perceptions and probably constitution to maximize their offense but they are not dump stats to them. If that wizard gets attacked (which happens from time to time and it is the problem of AI if it does not) he needs those 3 stats he dumped to survive. Compared to IE games where Wizard does not need Strength, Wisdom or Charisma to survive any attacks (and he does not need them for offense as well). Even 3e D&D tried fixed that a bit by linking stats with saves because the AD&D system was not good enough.

Reviews always represent only that one's/ones' views who wrote it, regardless where it is published. It is just nature of reviews. Yes and no. Review sites have staff that are in charge of reviewing certain games or genres. Their reviews are for all important matters the site review as well. Codex only had reviews done by members that feel like doing them and are not terrible writers. They mostly only represent themselves. It is a small difference but an important one.

BTW, Codex considers Fallout New Vegas the best Obsidian game. And this Codex PoE review is not a official RPGCodex PoE review as RPGCodex has no official review staff. Anyone that has the willpower and enough writing skill can make a review for any game and Codex will post it. DarthRoxor is not representing Codex with this review but himself. Codex is an anarchist site in heart

The IE games also had a solution to the stalemate problem for NON-magic battles. They use the D20 system, where 1 is always a miss and And a 20 is always a hit. Personally, though, I've come to terms with the Miss--Graze---Hit--Crit system that PoE uses. I like it. My only issue with it is how....universal it is. It applies to everything. Which means we'll never see those dramatic high level magic battle moments from BG2 and IWD2 where a heated, intense battle could end suddenly in a nail-biting moment due to, say, a Finger of Death, or a Wail of the Banshee. After all, what's the point of scoring a critical hit with your death spell? or a Graze with your Destruction spell? One thing I'd love to see is for more than just the duration of spell effects to vary with attack resolution. Particularly, CC spells need to apply different status effects based on the attack resolution - so on a hit you might charm, and on a crit you might dominate, but a graze only dazes. (just as an example) This would allow for a bit more counter-play on both the part of the player and the AI against status effects. As it is, you can confuse or paralyze even extremely powerful enemies for a decent amount of time since you can generally get a graze even when their defenses are very high. Extremely powerful status effects like confuse, charm/dominate, paralyze, etc should be difficult to apply and (IMO) should only ever apply on a hit or a crit, with the possible exception of some very powerful and very specialized (possibly single-target) spells. Maybe slicken doesn't inflict prone unless you hit, and just hobbles on a graze? Etc... There's been some serious missed opportunity to do interesting things with spell effects and the attack resolution system. Maybe they'll implement some more interesting stuff in the expansion? This is a good idea. Maybe Obsidian considers something like this for PoE 2 or maybe some modders try it.

Best part is the start

That is not true. Many many games had better middle or late game including most IE games. -
Also, if I remember right, the whole "miss-graze-hit-crit + DR" system was advertised as a solution for preventing the "miss fests" that allegedly plagued the IE games. Yet in those games I have never experienced such hopeless stalemates as in situations in PoE when tank-Eder and random-enemy-boss were the only ones left standing. Miss after miss after miss, with an occasional graze for single-digit damage. Could sometimes have probably gone on for fifteen minutes if I hadn't been impatient and reloaded. And that could be also avoided if Obsidian in their infinite wisdom didn't forbid using items that are not in quickslots before combat starts. If Obsidian wasn't obsessed with ruining fun you could have used some accuracy or faster speed scrolls or potions and made it finish faster.
