  1. Ah. I have not used it yet because I wanted my first play to be unmodded but I will be not be playing like that anymore
  2. I got another mod suggestion. Is it possible to turn off spells becoming encounter spells when spellcasters become high level? It kills high level power balance between casters and non casters as well as balance between low and high levels spells. Once you get lvl 1 and lvl 2 spells as encounter you very rarely need to cast lvl 3 or stronger spells. For something called IEMod being able to turn off whole spell levels becoming encounter spells seems fitting (so casters have same limits like in IE games)?!
  3. Where did I say it needs to be IE clone? I just said they made a worse game using worse mechanics while promising the game that has best of different IE series.
  4. Those are not "what I think they said". Those are *quotes* from the original Kickstarter launch video. Those are one quotes. They also had many other quotes and marketing and stuff.
  5. No, it didn't. Watch that video again sometime. It promised to be "the next great RPG experience". It promised to be "inspired by the great IE games you loved". It even promised to be "brought to you by the people responsible for IWD I & II". It never promised to be best IE game ever. It never even promised to be an IE game. It's system is so very different that if you played it in the exact way you played an IE game, you'd probably die. It's combat is *better*, in part because tanks can tank and you don't have to resort to kiting everything to make up for the lack of a tanking mechanic. It promised to have best parts of the 3 IE series. What you think they said I don't care. The end result didn't have that, any of that. It has something similar but worse. Engagement + tank&spank made combat super boring. But you can fix that as I described earlier.
  6. Wow. First time I see a post of someone who understands BG combat wasn't perfect, and that the engagement idea is there for a reason. Finally. The things I suffered in the beta forums I'm guessing some more balancing is needed. Obviously the fighter can't have high deflection + high accuracy + extra engagements + high damage. So saying it's the op's problem if his/her fighter doesn't punish disengagement is kinda silly. Actually both him and you don't have a clue what you are talking about. In Bg games it was super easy to tank. You kited a bit with ranged and sent your tank after the chasing enemy and the enemy went back to attacking the tank. Also the squishy classes had good cc spells that would take out of the battle those that came to hit them. This change to PoE is awesome for people that use IE mod and turn off disengagement attacks, we can now play it almost like BG since enemies will disengage more often (with no penalty with IE mod) and you will need to kite and not just tank&spank like in vanilla PoE So kiting is your perfect combat mechanism instead of engagement? wtf? Seriously tired from all the people who want an IE clone. Just go fund a game that use the real IE. People have overhauled BG2 into a completely new game before. No I funded this one as it promised to be best of all IE games. And then it was bait and switch. But IE mod exists, thank god. I did my first play without IE mod and the gameplay experience was terrible. But the Patch 2.0 changes sound good to play with IE mod. As for real IE, yes Siege of Dragonspear will be my day 1 purchase.
  7. IEMod currently doesn't work with the 2.0 version for one, for two they aren't that powerful to begin with. Yeah, they get a hefty accuracy boost but damage is the same far as I can tell(sure as heck never noticed any higher numbers when it did happen). Accuracy boosts turns into more likely criticals which turns into more damage.

In Bg games it was super easy to tank. You kited a bit with ranged and sent your tank after the chasing enemy and the enemy went back to attacking the tank. That is literally the definition of what you do to adapt to bad tanking systems. Nope, that is what happens if enemy going to stab you manages to get past your front line ally (this happened all the time in war in RL). You either have tools to stop him before he kills you or your run away.

  10. Haha, first people complained Disengagement attacks are too powerful and now they are too weak. How about you install IE mod, turn them off and kite like you are supposed to be able to?
  11. I really hope they use the part 2 expansion and revisit the Stronghold design and give it some more love. And then release it to base game as Patch 3.0 or something. But even it is expansion Part 2 only content that also improves the base game it would give me incentive to buy that expansion. This Part 1 gives me little of interest to spend money on since it does little to fix the base game outside what Patch 2.0 has which is OK but not enough.
  12. How exactly and on what basis? Volo is right Sharp_one ...you need to accept this as the truth. Even if you don't believe Volo I am vouching for him and you know I'm never wrong Ofc it wouldn't hold. I can't tell you about any country, but here in Germany if you bought smth you bought it, except if you bougt it on loan. Since you don't loan a video game There is no way steam could bend these rules in a country whith actual laws. Actually no. WHen you use Steam you had to click to Accept their rules and policy. In there is say they can do this and you accepted it. In there it is explain that you don't really own it and under what situations they can take the game away from you or prevent you from using it. And you accepted it. If you didn't read it, that is not Valve fault. Now by German law you that policy might be invalid but someone needs to sue Valve and that would be big news. Since nobody did yet I guess it is by German law. I would guess Valve also has access to lawyers that can read the law before selling the games on the market.
  13. Is there a list of these games? Or does it affect all regional versions? I'm a little worried now, I might be leaving the country soon and I'd hate to see my RHCP games not working. I have only one or two because I avoid region-locked purchases if I can, but still. I don't know what Valve is expecting, but that's just supporting rampant piracy. All games bought in one regions are not accessible in other regions. I think the rule might not apply for games bought before 2015, but I am not 100% sure. I was researching how to gift myself a cheaper game from another region and found this info and people complaining that moved permanently from Russia to USA. (I know, I know, but my country has same prices as Germany while our buying power is 1/3 of germany... **** steam!) I know gifting outside the cheaper region was disabled. I actually think it's fair - and no reasonable person buys new games on Steam anyway, so it doesn't matter much. Though it gets quite interesting when my game is region-locked, but still sold on Steam for the full price because my country pays in euro, not rubels... Anyhow, it's absurd if they lock us out from playing legally bought games when we leave our region. How is this even legal? Was it ever reported to a consumer protection body? Don't know, but I don't think in EU it is. Hopefully someone gets angry enough to report them.

  15. Steam has a nasty policy from this year to stop people buying from cheaper regions. If you even move from one region to another Steam will disallow access to all your games. Even if you are on a business trip you will lose the access to your games until you get back. This might not be true if you already got a game installed on the computer and use Offline mode.
  16. i'm probably missing your point, Archangel, because for effects that take away your hp i understand your wish but not for effects like charm, slow, stun etc. since it's normal that it lasts longer when it's a hit ?? As others have said, even the graze gives full benefit of the debuff but at a reduced duration. For a Int maxed caster that duration is often long enough to win you the encounter or at least let you stack other full duration debuffs on it. The big example was Adra Dragon that even when grazed with Petrify was enough to start chain debuffing. Also it made many of the Protection from X spells useless as they just gave you +50 to that defense and you often still got grazed and still Charmed/Dominated/whatever.
  17. Although I love the miss/hit system from DnD more than what we got in PoE the main problem is that charm, confusion, petrify and similar effects give its full effect on graze but with reduced duration. They should be changed into weaker effect on graze and then having more miss chance would not be needed.
  18. Actually you can "own it" if you are a fighter/warrior class altho it and all the other BG2 strongholds are indeed optional - some better than others but I wouldn't call the better than PoE just different - I'm OK with PoE stronghold - but would welcome improvements. You still don't own it, your "wife" does. And the your main opponents/contacts in the city are mages and they don't care for your castle. But they care about the Sphere and they oversee you there. You can even force them to help you with your Imoen quest there (even if it turns out useless in the end, at least it is recognized). PoE Stronghold is recognized by nobody and you deal with people in Defiance Bay that MUST be aware of it and who SHOULD care about it. You don't even have to keep that silly girl in your party never mind marry her to "own" (have control of) the castle - BG strongholds had pretty much no recognition by anyone as well - the mages aren't interested in YOU or the fact that you have aquired the sphere, nor are the paladins, or the priests or the members of your thief stronghold - there is a huge disconnect between the thieves guild helping you to find Imoen and the operation of the thief stronghold - so much so that you get in trouble over the dues while you are unable to take care of them - Why would you need to keep her in the party? You send her home to cook and clean :D Mages are interested if you keep the Sphere, what are you talking about? You even make a deal where they find out about Imoen and you do their quests in return. And BG2 strongholds are always meant as a optional content and unlike PoE stronghold can truly be ignored. And if you don't ignore them, they don't change your social standing that much and ARE per class. Many players don't even own a thief guild for instance. In PoE 100% of players get that Stronghold and you cannot bypass it in any way. Then it becomes yours without being able to reject it. So it is 100% part of your story but it is ignored by everyone in the world (except those that attack it lol).
  19. It made a good game for the people that mostly didn't play IE games or maybe didn't enjoy them much but it mostly failed for those that did. If that was their goal than they succeeded. Personally I still enjoyed it more than most shovelware RPGs that came out in last 10 years but I would still prefer if it was even more closer to its inspiration.
  20. Can you also make it so allies that get charmed or confused can still be buffed with allies only spells like those vs charm and confusion that are supposed to halve the duration of such negative effects and make sure that the charm and confusion affecting them are than halved in duration? Yup, can do. What would you prefer from the following: Turned allies count as both friend and enemy (e.g. you can heal them but also damage them). They only count as friendly I'm probably not going to be able to make it based on the ability used, though. I'm sort of planning to try to do the following. Tell me what you think: Try to make world objects more transparent, so that you can see the characters when they're behind a wall or some trees. Add a widget like the abilities bar that shows you a list of your queued actions. I really don't care as long as these spells will be able to affect the duration of Charm, Confusion and similar effects. If they are considered friendly only your team's AI will not automatically start attacking them but they will also ignore them and provoke Opportunity Attacks. That is if this change affects things like AI or Opportunity Attacks. If they are considered both friendly and enemy who know what kind of problems that can cause. In the end you need to try out these changes before releasing them to us.
  21. That's entirely fair. Personally I'm just happy that this kind of game is still being made in 2015, that I'll happily pay $30. And that's regardless of my opinion of the gameplay/story, which I found good, but not exceptional. I guess I'm just secretly hoping that Pillars (one day) receives the Baldur's Gate 2 treatment. I would probably say the same but then Siege of Dragonsphere was announced. I am more excited for the real thing than a bad copy.

  23. I don't agree at all. It not nearly being close. It is so far away it would be better if it didn't exist. It also makes no sense in the story of the game. What it needed to be is like NWN2 stronghold but also improved (there in the defense of the stronghold battle only the power of your group meant anything, everything else you built was pointless). Or like Castle in BG2 that is out of the way of the main story and that one is truly completely optional and you don't even own it so it does not create any problems in the story.
  24. That's a very strong statement, no? Only because it is true. Strange, you only need to interact with the Stronghold once. It doesn't have a major impact on the main story, it's really just a gateway to the mega dungeon. And that is its problem. Nobody cares that you got a huge Castle next to their capital. Even the Stronghold mechanics itself are terrible and boring. The mega dungeon below it is also pretty boring, feels more like clearing a dungeon in Diablo 2 as it has way too much samey combat.
