Chronicles Of The Old Republic?
213374U replied to Bastilla_Skywalker's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
It's a nice little addition to get people to know the timeline better. I'm hoping they will make some reference to all that in the game, though. IMO the comics haven't aged too well, I have read them all and they are... old. Except for the 'redemption' series, I think only hardcore EU fans will like the comics. -
Sorry, but that is a problem with the pnp version as well. Don't blame KotOR for that. Jedi classes are overpowered in comparison to any other single class, here, and in the D20. It's supposed to be that way since in SW it's hard for a non-force user to take on a Jedi. Only in the pnp the Jedi can use the Force to solve a lot of situations outside combat too, while in KotOR you are forced to have a relatively weak role-playing character if you want to have a killing machine.

It seems senseless fanboyism beats reason every time around here. *sigh*

well said =D hades cant find anything uncomplainable and is usually the source of many flame wars and im sure everyone would like him to STFU <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Funny how you attack him, but can never best him with logic and sound arguments. I would say it is you who is starting a flame war. Hades may be misdirecting his efforts, but he usually has a point. As an action/adventure game KotOR is great, but as a RPG, it isn't that good. You cannot role-play after all.

You have to play a monthly fee to play SWG, which sucks big time IMO. And he can bitch as much as he wants for as long as he doesn't go against forum rules... If you don't agree with him, quit reading or counter his arguments.

Watch AotC again. Anyway, the lightsaber being too powerful/not powerful enough issue is more of a bad conversion from the D20 system than anything else. You see, in the D20, vitality points don't actually represent a character's resistance to damage, but their ability to avoid lethal damage. These increase with levels and are replenished at the end of the fight. The true toughness of a character is represented by his wound points. These have the same value as their CON score, and aren't increased with levels. When a character is hit, the damage is substracted from their vitality points. When a character runs out of vp, they have 'run out of luck', and the next attack causes real physical damage. Considering that the average CON score is around 12, you can see that most characters will be killed in one or two shots from a gun, and will hardly survive a lightsaber blow. It's interesting how in the D20, only characters which have access to PC classes have vitality points, meaning commoners, stormtroopers, battle droids, and the sort only have wound points, thus reflecting the 1-hit-kill feel from the movies.

Agreed. However the psychological effects come after using lethal force. Soldiers are trained to use lethal force as a tool, and not a result of emotion, precisely because the emotional component introduces unstability in a potentially volatile situation. The same applies to police officers. Force is not the same as aggression and doesn't need to be the result of unchecked emotions.

I disagree with you there. Using the gun against a rapist wouldn't require you to hold any ill will toward him. It would only require you to realize that he's about to do something terrible. Common sense and logic would dictate that using the gun is the lesser of two evils. However, the issue is not using the gun or not using it. The issue is, is using lethal force against the rapist the only way you can stop him? For a Jedi, there are not many cases in which the only way to protect themselves or others is using the Force in a harmful way. They are trained in other, less offensive, ways of wielding their power.

That's one of the reasons I'm having trouble playing through one more time to set up my TSL game. As a whole, I enjoy KOTOR immensely. But there are parts of the game that I'd rather not play through, but are unavoidable. Ah well, I guess I'll decide when it's closer to release date. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> There's a way around that, at least in the PC. You won't get rid of it completely, but it makes playing through envirosuit/spacesuit parts more tolerable. What you have to do is have any form of Force speed active the moment you use the door that takes you 'outside'. That way, the game still keeps the increased movement speed when wearing the suit, but it won't count as if the power was active, so it won't wear off. You will still be sluggish, but not quite so much.

I've been at this for seven pages... I guess it won't hurt to try again. You are considering Luke the perfect Jedi, when he's far from being so. He acted in fear in the cave of Dagobah, he acted in anger against his father on board the DS, he tried to strike down an unarmed Emperor after failing to resist the taunts. He was this close to falling to the DS. That in the movies only. In fact Luke's own struggle to keep the DS at bay was one of the movies' plots. Regarding his choking the pigs, he didn't even try another way of circumventing the problem. Other Jedi would have used stealth as Obi-Wan did on board the DS, maybe a Mind Trick would have been enough. And of course he didn't even say 'please'. Luke simply choked them until they were out of his way, and took advantage of the fear his attack had caused. Acted like a true darksider. Maybe it all would have come down to a fight in the end, but he didn't even try to avoid hurting them. That's not the way of the Jedi. I believe Jedi regard Force skills such as lightning and hurling objects at a target as deviations of the dark side. Using them is inherently evil. No Jedi would ever use those. Pushing away others with the Force is a different matter, since there is a risk of causing major injury or death, but that is not the intent of the Jedi when doing so. Therefore a Jedi might choose to take that risk if the situation warrants it.

I didn't suggest anything of the sort. However, it amuses me how you can call a debate which you have admittedly not read, 'crap'. I could care less about your opinion, but you proved your ignorance about this topic when you stated it's close to a flame war. That and the arrogant tone of your posts are what prompted my reply, nothing else. If you are harsh, expect nothing but harshness.

I see... so you don't want to read 'this crap'. Well, it's your choice. But maybe you should read some other 'crap', maybe then you would know about Battle Meditation being added into the game.

Much Ado About Lightsaber Forms
213374U replied to yukisawa's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
if there's a kone there must also be a ktwo <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Kone backwards in Enok and Enok is a drink recipe. Maybe Kone is subliminally trying to get us to drink. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That is only bad as far as Enok is a bad drink. And of course if you are under legal age... " -
You can get the 640x480 trailer here

Hmm. It really seems you know what you're talking about. TBH I didn't expect to find somebody who actually knew this kind of stuff in depth here. I must have underestimated the dark side... err I mean... you. I have read quite a few things on self-defense myself, and AFAIK, you would be hard pressed to justify the use of something as deadly as a back-breaking technique, no matter the circumstances, since the only aim of such a move is to cause serious and/or permanent injury, if not death. I believe that could be compared to using the Force in an offensive way. Yeah, the feeling is mutual.

Yup. But you have to leave something for us poor lightsiders to play with. "

Choices at Beginning of K2

Feeling smart, are we? -
As far as moral and legal concerns go, there is no difference between 'aggressive defense' and aggression itself. You see some punk in the street trying to mug/rape/kill a girl, you step in and break his back. Guess who's going to jail? " But you are missing the point. There are other forms of using the Force that don't involve harming others. If a Jedi chooses the aggresive one over the harmlessl one, he's giving in to the dark side.
-
Nope. If you cause harm to others, no matter why or how, it's an attack. Even if the target of your attack deserves to be attacked, it doesn't change the nature of your action. Using the Force to confuse the attacker, paralize him, or create an illusion to trick him would be defense. Hurting him would cross the line. All right. Let's consider you can always find some devil's advocate to justify your unjustifiable drawing upon the dark side. That could work in a pnp RPG since you could try to convince the GM that what you absolutely, positively needed to fry that poor beggar with Force lightning (he was after your money, after all!). However, in a CRPG there's no GM to argue with, so a general rule must be applied. And in general, using the Force to harm others, is wrong. So, to get back on topic, no. The LS should absolutely not get any powers that can directly or indirectly cause harm.
