Yeah, and that would have the advantages of letting down the entire JK fanbase, and be set in the craptastic NJO era. YAY! Suits LA's recent business strategy. With the added bonus of assuming that the annoying sidekick with the weird hairdo was met with a gruesome end!

That's what we get for sticking our finger in the US' eye at each chance we get.

Yeah. I said before that the notion of what is "distasteful" is subjective, when you said you considered them so. What I didn't say, even though it's pretty obvious, is that my own stance is also subjective. I was just offering an opposite opinion to yours, not trying to counter it, as I don't think it's possible. The problem I see is that, as ~Di said, our tolerance threshold towards the muslim world seems to exceed by far what we would consider acceptable for pretty much everyone else. Once they stop behaving like barbarians, then maybe we will treat them as equals. Yes, Colrom. There is a very distinct "us" from "them" here. Compare their reaction to ours and tell me it's not true.

Actually, they did:

That's a possibility. There's also a possibility that the PC is a hairy dwarf, too.

I don't know about Danish papers, but over here we have that daily. Apparently you haven't bothered to read enough to know that this whole business started because somebody actually couldn't find any artist that wanted to depict Muhammad, for an unrelated publication. And in that case, they weren't going to be caricatures. This wasn't a calculated attack at the muslim community for no apparent reason. Yeah, playing martyr is always a good trick. Where harm is actually caused. As I said, jurisprudence has those limits clearly laid out.

Yep. Say whatever I please. I believe that's freedom of speech. The "doing" part of your statement is an obvious trap I'm not going to fall for, heh. If you limit freedom of speech based on any notion of what is right and what is wrong, it doesn't matter if you do it under the name of censorship, political correctness, or decency. And see? We are debating freedom of speech. The chance of listening to things that may offend us, from time to time, is the burden we must accept in exchange for freedom of speech. Obviously, it's not boundless. Like any other freedom it can be abused to bring harm to others. That's the point where regular justice takes over. But arguing that saying things that may offend other people is actually harming them is somewhat demagogic. Again, you are using subjective terms. It's distasteful to you, but it does not look that way to me. And what so many jackasses believe isn't really my business, but certainly reducing the extent of freedom of speech isn't going to improve on their situation in the least.

I am so not going to comment on that.

And still, here we are, thriving as a race. Until humankind destroys itself, your argument is absurd. And when we do, then nobody will be left alive to listen to it. Sorry, you lose.

Yeah, you tell that to all the Jedi that died in RotS. And if you hate SW so much, why the hell are you posting in a thread about SW?

Uh... since the other thread was locked, I'm going to address a few points, in a civilized, non-inflammatory way. As much as I'm able to, anyway. The fact that we are even mentioning freedom of speech speaks for itself. And while you might think that freedom of speech wins hands down, that doesn't mean everyone (and I'm not talking about muslims here) agrees. Because you don't like it? That's within the realm of political correctness now. Not saying anything that might be considered deriding other people's beliefs. Not even admitting to thinking it. Sorry, I already said there is nothing untouchable for me when it comes to ideas or beliefs, so I guess we'll have to agree to disagree, as you haven't supplied a single argument to support the argument that I shouldn't ridicule other people's beliefs, or that my own beliefs shouldn't be ridiculed. The thing is, if somebody for whatever reason ridicules my beliefs, I examine them to see if there's any semblance of sense in what they are saying. If there's not, I just disregard the attack. People need to grow a thicker skin. I could say the exact opposite, and the statement wouldn't lose a grain of validity. There's no way we could know, unless such survey was carried out. Eh? Somewhere back there I lost you, it seems. I wasn't promoting or even suggesting censorship. And there's no way in hell you could compare these cartoons to pornography, as pornography may have an adverse effect on children, as some psychologists argue. Or that's the official excuse for restricting it, anyway. Arguing the same for these cartoons is nonsense. I eagerly await your enlightened comments on the matter - if you can put aside the trolling for a second, that is. Reality disagrees with you.

Wow. I had no idea. For once, I feel proud... Thanks, I've been wanting to use it for some time. It's not as swasti-tastik as I'd like, but oh well. You can't have everything I guess. Well, terrorist threats have been proven to work in the past. Why shouldn't they now?

Grand Theft Corellian Transport?

I want another space sim. A Privateer-like one, if possible, but anything goes. Just NO gungans or ewoks in it. I'd like to see a fighting game as well. Something along the lines of the duel mode of the EpIII game, but with more variety. That game got the fighting mechanics just right, but it had few fighters and arenas. There wasn't much variety in moves outside of Obi-Wan and Anakin, either. Of course, the point made before about gungans and ewoks applies here as well.

Indeed. Are we to apologize for the lies a bunch of short-sighted extremists choose to spread to further their agendas, then?
-
I don't think that's the idea behind that particular caricature. I'm more inclined to believe it's a way of hinting the form in which some have chosen to interpret the prophet's message, and therefore, depicting Islamic terrorism as Muhammad's brainchild, in a twisted way. A sad mistake, if you ask me.
-
Heh. It's the first time I see this kind of notice over there. Quite revealing.

Well, then do reason them. I think the answer to all three is "no". I am not an atheist, but I have a deeply seated hate for organized religion. For me, nothing is sacred, at least as far as ideas are concerned. I don't see why one should make distinctions based on what some people's notions are of what is "sacred", seeing how "holiness" and the like are unjustifiable by any seriously substantial means. I can't say for sure, but I doubt those cartoons' intended target audience was the muslim community, anyway. I see my beliefs being ridiculed on the newspapers on a regular basis. Some of them are pretty damn funny, too. And I don't go starting up all kinds of trouble because of that. Again, I don't see why we should keep some ideas free from criticism, even if it's from a humoristic standpoint, just because they are thousands of years old, and wrapped in mysticism and historical inaccuracy. In fact, I find it sadly ironical. The fact that we are even pondering these questions is sad proof as to the weak moral state we live in, now. Or maybe not, as we will go as far as re-examining the validity of such strongly rooted ideas such as freedom of speech and press, and weight them against... what? Tradition, ignorance, and intolerance. Again, the irony.

That's my point. I mean, who wouldn't want to be gay? I'm 100% moderator approved, baby.

And here I was trying to be disagreeable. You're no fun, man. Well, whenever I hear or read about "the West", I interpret the Western way of life, the Western culture. That's not exclusive to North America.

Isn't pretty much everything being boycotted by somebody or another these days?

T'was a misunderstanding then. Fair enough. I understand they had to drop some elements that would have made it a great game to hardcore genre fans to appeal to a larger audience. However that does not substract validity from my claims. Privateer >>> Freelancer. I didn't know the RPG genre was as good as dead when BG came out. I'll have to take your word for it. And about the adventure games, I can't really tell as I'm not into that kind of games but I was under the impression that some recent adventures are pretty damn good. I think it's a severe case of nostalgia, with this.
