  1. However, having expensive equipment and adequate training vastly increases life expectancy of soldiers. You only have to compare how many US soldiers have died in actual combat (as opposed to bombings), and how many Iraqis died in the war. If you actually knew what you're talking about, you'd know that your chances of taking down a modern gunship with a $1000 RPG are next to zero. That's why it doesn't usually happen, you know. Last I heard is that JSF is due for active duty on about 2010. How's that wasted cash? I agree, however, that it would seem like that crazy amount of money the military's getting isn't being administered quite as it should. I read somewhere that another "threat to National Security" may trigger the reinstatement of the draft... there shouldn't be any need for that, right?
  2. Take that, you global warming nutjobs!
  3. That's what I was going to say. But then I saw your post had mysteriously changed... So that is why you were so eager to be made a mod!
  4. That is the main reason why a Starforce boycott will never be widespread enough to force a change. You know about this. I know about this. Maybe a few hundred thousands more worldwide know about this. Even if everyone that knows boycotted, they could still point a finger at us and laugh as they "protect" their games with this crap. Don't worry. The fine guys at Starforce will make sure this game is pirated to the extent it will be an example for developers to never underestimate the power of aggressive and illegal copy protection again. All's well that ends well.
  5. Yes. Those are both perfect examples of the innovative suckage I was talking about. Thanks for saving me the potential brain damage of having to think specific examples up.
  6. Come think of it, I can't quite remember what it was about, so you're probably right...
  7. Well, it must be pretty recent. I've been checking the boards somewhat regularly for the past few weeks, and while they said there was a patch coming, they had no planned release date. Some APOC, supposedly EA RTS community manager, announced that they were focusing their efforts on fixing the missing movies and missing music tracks. I'd be pleasantly surprised if they actually fixed any other issues, and might even consider purchasing the compilation.
  8. I thought she was okay in Closer, too.
  9. The "rehashing" part of your argument can be applied to about everything you can think of, today. Nothing is new or original anymore, and if something actually is, it's usually not because nobody thought of it before, but because they realized it would suck and refrained from developing it. That said, yes. I think there's a ton of new fantasy crap out every year. But being as it is one of the most prolific genres, it's not surprising. You have to consider the target for the genre, too. You won't find many philosophy intellectuals reading Salvatore. Most are teens or young men in their early 20's with less than optimal social skills, that incidentally, have not been exposed to anything better. I don't hate the genre, as it has some good things. But it appears I haven't been so overwhelmed by it as you...
  10. Indeed. It's related to the Win95 compatibility mode in which the game is set to run by default, as the crash doesn't happen if you turn it off. Unfortunately, without the compatibility mode, it's the game's videos that cause it to crash. Yes. All EA did to ensure that "ALL GAMES NOW RUN UNDER WINDOWS XP!" was to have the installer automatically set the games to Win95 compat mode. Go EA!
  11. Starting from mission 7 (Nod) and mission 5 (GDI) if I remember correctly, the game crashes as soon as any player-controlled unit goes near the upper left corner of the map. There are variations, and the extent of the bug is variable (I, for instance, had the crash occur anywhere in the upper quarter of the map). Considering that in some missions you actually start around those areas, and in some others you actually have to go over there, this bug effectively renders Tiberian Dawn unplayable.
  12. Funny how you attempt to refute his argument, and then proceed to back that attack up with the exact same kind of reasoning you criticize.
  13. Just because YOU like it doesn't mean it's good game design. He didn't say it's good. Craving for a circular argument, are we?
  14. True. Take comfort, though. It'll only be the hypochondriac and hygiene paranoid that die from colds, though.
  15. Because that kind of artificial, moderation-sponsored board streamlining efforts, usually fails miserably.
  16. I just can't drink. Or can I? Post links instead. That way those not interested don't need scroll down past your picture spam.
  17. Tiberian Sun had that. World Conquest, it was called. I hear it sucked. As for the C&C characters, they weren't really that great, barring the unnamed Commando. I don't really see how Kane from C&C holds any relation to the biblical Cain, anyway. And I suspect SS doesn't either... Nice hijacking, by the way.
  18. An incredibly underrated game. Excellent graphics, excellent atmosphere, and more than satisfying gameplay. I found that to be one of the stupidest themes of the game. Duct tape? OMG 1337 h4xx0rz!!!11
  19. Well, okay. Since I haven't actually played EVE Online, I'll take your word fori .t. But I thought players could take out entire AI factions, right? Granted, I don't know the extent to which that might affect gameplay, but it seems to be a good design implement. lol, I don't know whty the hell Im defending EVE, seeing how a few mnotsh ago I got into a flame war about it being a nest of metagamers an stuf..
  20. If I was sober, id 'robably come up with a mourning joke fitting the circumstances. Fortunately that's not the case.
  21. I'm betting he had to drop it because of the "f-bomb" it contained. Jags wins TOMBS for that sig alone, though.
  22. Recently watched Lord of War. Nice mix of black humour and drama. Yep, I like mainstream cinema. )
