  1. I don't know a ton about it either, but I believe giving up a kidney is a very serious deal. It's not nearly as simple as giving up sperm. Eggs are also a somewhat risky thing to give up, although not on the life threatening scale of a kidney. That being said, I don't have much of a problem with someone getting paid. But how is this going to be handled insurance-wise? Are taxpayers going to be on the hook when some desperate for cash guy sells his kidney, blows it on terrible stuff, and ends up in the hospital with major health problems? I also just don't trust the medical industry with turning it into a more of a for profit business. It's already a mess.
  2. I'm more curious how much of a mark up kidneys will have with Amazon 3rd party sellers. Considering how much Hatchimals are going for, the hottest gift this Xmas, I imagine it will be crazy high.
  3. That's a great picture to go out on. My brother-in-law got hired by Ducati when the Matrix movies were coming out and they were featured a lot. They flew him to Italy, gave him a set of leathers, and then 9 months later when the movie buzz wore down, he was laid off. I'd say that was still a pretty good deal.
  4. I'm not sure that a tweet from 4 years prior is much of a lead for a new job.
  5. Well we can look at Puerto Rico as an example as to what would have happened if Castro had not been successful. As understandable as it was to break away from colonial rule, it does not seem to have been a great deal for the Cuban people in the long run. Maybe if the USSR hadn't collapsed, you could make a better argument for Cuban independence being successful, but unfortunately things have been rough since the late 80's.
  6. So has there been an attack worse than 9/11 under Obama? There is no evidence to back up your claim. Of course we should be concerned about terrorism. Obama isn't sitting in security briefings tweeting about SNL, I'm pretty sure he took it very seriously. But the fear-mongering does not match up with any of the facts. And where do you draw the line at 'all necessary measures'? Which freedoms are you willing to give up to support that assertion? Plus if every act of terrorism is an act of war, what is your response to domestic terrorism?
  7. That's right, we can absorb a few terrorist attacks. Kind of hard to do anything about those murderous toddlers though. Is it though? Keeping guns out of the hands of toddlers seems like a much easier fix than rooting out all forms of extremism that lead to violent terrorist attacks.
  8. Hrm, that's weird that he retweeted something from 2012. Although I guess if Tyranny isn't selling well, that could cause some layoffs.
  9. Isn't that just a poll about what people think, though? I mean, the US would probably have similar numbers of people concerned about terrorism, despite toddlers killing more people than terrorists in the US last year. Not that we shouldn't concern ourselves over terrorism, but it does seem to be the type of thing that provokes irrational fear rather than reasonable concern.
  10. I gotta agree, that was a fantastic moment. Although I have a feeling he will still be around next season.
  11. So this story is kind of related, in that it's a bit scary to see the lack of response by the gas company here: http://www.oleantimesherald.com/news/pittsburgh-man-reported-franklinville-gas-leak-after-viewing-youtube-video/article_32e630bc-b917-11e6-b905-638ab11952ea.html
  12. The weird thing is the US has a pretty big arms deal with Taiwan, so this whole issue about a phone call is dumb.
  13. Raiders are just crazy in the 4th quarter.
  14. Calisodom, that's clever. I suppose we can put together some Texas insult that combines heart disease with drive-through liquor and gun stores.
  15. I've got episode 5 up, Christmas ales this go around. My wife had a few drinks before this episode, so it's a bit of an adventure. ;-)
  16. Texas is two thirds desert and one third swamp, I'd rather get rid of them.
  17. I don't know, I think we are in better position for a recession than we were the last. What are actual economists saying on the subject?
  18. Wonder Woman was the best part. They merely hinted at a complex backstory for her, and I think that was for the best. Unlike Superman and Batman, whose backstories are thrown around like a sack of bricks. Poor Batman and his dead parents, lets show his mom get killed twice, show the gravestone of his parents over and over again, etc. Audiences have terribly short memories, so we need to get them emotionally invested over and over again. Also lets have Superman talk to Kevin Costner on a mountain for some reason. The movie works too hard to try and create an emotional impact. It lacks charm and any sense of fun.
  19. California has a balanced budget. As long as we stick with fiscally conservative governors, we should be more than fine.
  20. The worst part about the evil kid is probably the feeling you have done something to get them to that place.
  21. Licketysplit seems to have a serious case of envy. Ah yes, things are terrible here in the Bay Area. All these crazy people keep innovating the world and starting massively successful companies. Keep your distance, it may be contagious!
