  1. Propanolol has been around for a while. It's mostly for lowering blood pressure in the short term. Not as a long term persistent medicine for hypertension. If you have the nerves before a speech, your blood pressure seemingly drops to zero. It also blocks the fight or flight response, and prevents hand tremors or voice quaking. So it's a performance medicine for vocalists and musicians. Orchestras often use them, either for nerves or to quiet the hands.
  2. An experience, a challenge, to explore a world, for a story. Often times to relax, unwind, enjoy downtime. It's a different type of excitement than a book or movie. So it spices up life a bit.
  3. Assuming a quantized theory of the universe is correct. Just because the underlying structure is somehow consistent, symmetric, and balanced; It doesn't mean it was created to be as such. It can be that it's one of a variety of fundamental orders which generatively builds out a structure from it. If any such structure could form Goldilocks pockets which would form life, then it's not surprising that life would look at itself and come to realize just how perfectly everything had to be to arrive just at their moment. But the very same goes for some exotic crystal cavern on the opposite side of the universe. There is a reason why those who carry out science often maintain an agnostic or atheistic position. It doesn't preclude that God exists, just that our strongest forms of reasoning don't need one, and don't affirm the notion of one. If God did design the universe, then he did so through systems which are emergent in properties and effective hide his hand. So you'll never really know if there is a hand behind his brush strokes.
  4. Very timely. I've been blasting tons of Blondie over the past week. More 80s than 90s, but my favorite decade for music was the 90s anyways.
  5. Speaking of which, this forum is actually kind of an escape from eternal September.
  6. People should be careful how they rally support, but the endless non-stop concern trolling and "oh my god that's problematic because it CAN lead to..." is a unique cancer unto itself.
  7. Did this affect the performance on personal machines or just server architecture?
  8. Because this is practically the politics thread,
  9. Just like last time. Some branches are excluded. Like the deployed Armed Forces. The GOP was recently trying to extended that to the non-deployed Armed Forces as well.
  10. I'm considering requesting my taxes back because the state is still a mess 242 years after it's launch.
  11. There are two militias being talked about, the PKK and the YPG. The YPG being the militia of the Democratic Federation of Northern Syria, an unrecognized quasi-independent and ethnically Kurdish state. Then the communist PKK is a terrorist group to NATO. The YPG is associated with being allied with the US. Right now the Kurds want to form their own free Democratic state. They want Northern Syria, a corner of Iraq (however I think this region is increasingly becoming content) and then South East Turkey. In Turkey there are rebellions for independence, which the PKK no doubt supports, and the YPG no doubt wants this independence as well. Turkey has recently connected the two groups, but it's unclear how strong the connection is. It looks like a nominal connection at best in favor for a Kurdish state, but Turkey is using the opportunity to go after the YPG by associate with the PKK. US works with YPG. But if part of it is now up in Turkey's business and making a an oppertune alliance with the PKK it would be understandable for the turn-tail. I'm not happy with the trends going on in Turkey. But I don't think the YPG is as uniformly organized as one might be led to believe. A lot of dreamers who really don't know the machinations of the higher powers in the region, the likelihood of getting their own state is far off.
  12. While the shutdown might shift around some money, and maybe even trim the budget a bit. It really seems like in terms of total economic value, it is nothing but a loss. Are there any expectations for how long this is supposed to last?
  13. God dammit, this is the opposite super bowl that I wanted to see...
  14. Really? So this close to release and we have nothing regarding companions? Not really sure how to read this. You don't want to have spoilers, that's obvious. We do have profiles on the companions that can join you. Whether you run into an old friend as an NPC is yet to be seen, and should be kept that way. Returning: Aloth, Edér, Pallegina New: Maia, Xoti, Serafen, and Tekēhu Sidekicks: Fessina, Konstantin, Ydwin, Rekke Where sidekicks are merely glorified mercenaries with a bit of light background and have a quest before they can join you. While companions are like last game but now expanded to have a rich relationship system with the watcher and between each other. I vaguely recall mention that some, not all, of the former companions could return as NPCs. But these were very early musings. If none do, I personally don't think that is a huge deal, as I would only want it if it had some justification. Now in real life you might run into someone in a mundane way, but we all know that fans would be disappointed by that, so in a game you do need to have those sorts of things be well justified with respect to story.
  15. I think the best of the series is in Civ V Complete. And Civ 6 looks to fix some issues even with that game. But really they are always best once all the content is out, otherwise the systems aren't as rich and complex as I desire.
  16. Kiki was the first Ghibli film I ever saw! It's been probably 15 years or more since I last saw it.
  17. Never heard of the site. https://www.alexa.com/find-similar-sites#site=wnd.com Seems like it does have a slant though. I'm going to wager the guess that non-citizens aren't being given the right to vote.
  18. I'm tempted, but I've also been holding out for when Civ 6 Complete comes out.
  19. It's still a bus stop on an etymological path.
