I don't like the idea of equipment transfer, especially when we'll restart as lvl1. That said items that are important in narrative showing up at some later point would be cool. I feel the same way about companions; any special equipment they had with them, they sold over the years cos there was no generous Watcher paying/providing their living expenses.

Carrie Patel also slipped that Eder names the baby. Hmn. Maybe he might also have fostered it in Dyrford if certain endings align. -
They want both There is nothing wrong with multiplatform action RPGs *if* Obs is making them. Obs wouldn't not love(-what) to make sequels to New Vegas or Alpha Protocol or an Elder Scrolls(which would obviously be the closest if Obs makes an AAA action RPG out of PoE). And anyone who isn't overly nostalgic wouldn't say no to potential games like these.

Let's talk ship!

I'm wondering how fragile the crew will be. They could make pretty hardcore management system with dire consequences but the crew won't consist of generated NPCs, instead they'll be NPCs from the world(that we can find & hire) and companions/sidekicks, so I think dire consequences would mostly get ruled out like crew dying due to lack of water/food/medicine etc since some peeps won't be happy loosing a companion just cos they neglected their dehydration since they might not like management at all. Well maybe they could make an opt-in hardcore feature like in New Vegas. -

Well, another good news: What they showed in the video is exactly that -
@Ninjamestari I'm too lazy to follow or think much about RL politics but I hate extremists either way. That said I don't see the influences of extreme views on Pillars.(Where as just glancing at Mass Effect: Andromeda waters my eyes with that shiny glossy frostbite x extreme agendas) Josh seems to be a leftist but I don't think/don't see his views affecting his work much. I think he created this system out of necessity, rather than for equality. He says he watched too many people wanting to enjoy IE games but somehow failing to do so, he wanted to create a system which is easy to get into and hard to master, whether he succeeded or not is another matter. I am one of those people who couldn't enjoy IE games, I tried several times but they are too hard to get into and require too much pre-knowledge or maybe I'm too lazy etc. so I perfectly understand why he did it and at least it worked on me; I had no problem getting into Pillars, I had other problems with the game which are more related to this thread that I wrote about 2 years ago: https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/77376-why-is-everything-in-this-game-so-bland/ He created the system that you accuse of being created out of equality agenda and also wrote Pallegina that you give as an example how it should be handled. He seems to be more interested in and talks about magic classes most of the time but when I played the game I saw melee classes are just as much fleshed out, thankfully. etc etc. Overall very BALANCED dude and watch your steps or else:

Since this would be similar to the audiences in Caed Nua (anyone else think sitting in the steward's lap was kinda weird?), I'd wager we have a good chance for this - could be really cool. How about an "intercept a plague ship" mission? I know, I know, this plays on Space Hulk / Dracula / Armageddon tropes, but it could make for a nice horror themed story. Yep, I loved the added stuff to Caed Nua. Plague ship could be a good way to enter the "big city" for the first time; having intercepted the ship and BURNED IT WITH FIRE, we could enter the city as a hero(with some enemies related to the burnt ship)...or quarter of the docks district dead cos of us not doing anything or being unsuccessful in out attempt I like that...and maybe to make it complicated, if you do BURN IT WITH FIRE, you get to run into a couple people who would have loved to have one of the passengers stagger to shore, plague and all. Maybe the ship carried a spy bearing a secret? A father of a small child who doesn't understand? Just a bunch of peasants whose illness would have cleared out the slums a merchant wanted to buy cheaply? There was something like this in Outlander, burning the already docked ship and its cargo IIRC, which creates a nemesis in France who owned the ship & the business. Yeah something like this could have various repercussions. -

Crew system to be good so we can scratch some management itch. Crew system to be better so leaving "spare" companions on the ship shouldn't hurt as much i.e. they should be very useful in the crew. Crew system to be awesome cos why not? After some time into the game if we get recognition/respect, some quest giver NPCs should come to our ship rather than we go where they are to discover a quest, And we deal with them in our captain's cabin, behind the table, leaning back. Secret meetings in the ocean with double crossings, ambushes etc. Some legendary pirates/pirate ships & some mysterious ships & their crew /some of them derelict. Some more stuff, more stuff is always good And after that I'd like to see Obs' own space opera(or licensed The Expanse or Farscape rpgs) where they expand on the ship and related stuff :D -
I always associate some amount of luck with the gamble that the industry has become. I can't help but think that if there wasn't a new console generation (PS4/XB1) to play The Witcher 3 on, it wouldn't have received the hype nor the attention that it deserved. Considering that most of its sales were on PS4. Regardless of having an amazing E3 demo, being great on pc, etc. They were set out to make a multiplatform game, they were even unlucky to be overestimating new consoles' power so the E3 2013 fiasco happened, maybe this also helped as in "no such thing as bad publicity". It sold on PS4 more cos there are a lot more PS4 owners than xbone. Overall they were very clever & bold. I don't trust them today as I did before tho. They are getting too big too quickly, still hiring "designers" for a game they announced back in 2012 which is very discomforting and investing in features like "seamless multiplayer" which I'm not at all excited about. Also Witcher 3 was good and all but I'm still disappointed about the save import stuff, Witcher 2 as a game rendered meaningless with how they handled continuity.

First 2 games are mediocre how? They have their flaws but for most people who played those 2 games they are great. CDPR certainly earned my trust and they showed good stuff(however controversial) so new people to the series also got excited, they didn't magically got "lucky". The luck part is not for the reception, reception relies on marketing and game being good. Luck is a factor for the ones who pay the bills; publishers/investors for the game turning out good or bad.

An answer I'm used to hearing and one that contradicts itself. I mean, if that was the case, every developer who pours in hours of hard work would get rewarded, no? Every good/great game would be a success and no developer would be closing their doors, this obviously isn't so. I can't relate the gaming industry to all things in life, maybe musicians... Musicians would be a valid work hard and only out of luck do they become noticed. It's about as close to a real example I can get. Everyone works hard, or at least they say they do. As far as getting rewarded for it - well, that all depends on the person's definition of rewarded. Hard work can be coupled with luck, usually with alt of competitors, it's just that. Something I have learned over the years is that the games industry is a different kind of business, sure it's easy to say "The Witcher 3 is a phenomenal game" but what if it wasn't? It would still have those 1 million pre-sales... all because of hype and a great demo. This industry has alot to do with luck, whether people want to admit it or not. Let's also get to another fact that The Witcher 3 was bought mostly by people who had never even played a Witcher game before. Anyways back to the OP's question,an important thing to keep mind about PoE franchise is that they're crowd funded games and only on one platform. I agree with the contradiction but not on luck; making a good game is more hard work than luck and making the right game & great marketing is more like being clever than lucky. Investing into their own engine & best marketing in recent history(free DLCs!), being bold & trusting themselves that they can deliver even if they couldn't "redefine the RPG" etc etc. Pfft. yeah they got lucky...

I didn't like the combat either but Witcher 1 was far from a "crap game". Combat in the second or third Witcher wasn't much good either, except they looked good. Combat has never been the strong suit of CDPR, we'll see if it'll change with CP77 in 2077 I guess. Tho the reason people don't like/hate "The Witcher" in this thread isn't even combat. Also CDPR could have gone under between Witcher 1 and 2, they spent too much money on a Witcher 1 console port which never happened. People who "complain" about The Witcher series deserve Bio & Bethesda crap.

For pillows to be mainstream it will have to go third action console rpg route is the consensus so far? Obs would have had a lot better time if they had kickstarted a sci-fi/post apoc. RPG which are the sub-genres that's more popular atm and can scale a lot better with budget as opposed to Pillar's 2 options; either stay as a successful niche or get a big AAA budget. I think InXile's sitting on a gold mine that's Wasteland which can be a lot more successful with better level-design & writing, better prod. quality & Xcom like gameplay but InXile lacks the talent & budget/project management to hit a home run. So I guess what I'm saying is Obs needs[to crowdfund] another IP that could do what I think could be done with a sci-fi/PA rpg that's a lot different from Pillars and keep its budget separated(avoiding the cluster**** what InXile seems to be in).

What about mushrooms? If a character eats a mushroom or 2 he/she'll be 2 KOs away from permadeath, every character will be able to eat 2 mushrooms max but second mushroom will only empower the character/give the character an ability based on his/her class/multiclass, Resting will only replenish a characters HP/endurance. Mushrooms will only replenish when resting in wilderness areas, also can be bought or found in brick walls/platforms. aaaand damn it, I remembered it wrong, 1up mushrooms were different. Fuuuu edit: Actually I wasn't wrong, just missed the 1ups so additionally there will be certain number of special soul bound mushrooms that can be found throughout the game which will act as back-up/will only kick in and consumed if there isn't any mushroom left in a character's metabolism. No limit per character, you'll be able to soul bound any number of mushrooms to any character. Long term strategy for you

Its a flaw just cos you don't like it? Its precisely why I like the setting, the more realistic, less magic, more politics & court intrigue the better. Tho one thing I don't like is space & time travel/its connection to other settings, I hated the very end of the books cos of it. Btw. poeple who don't like Witcher here, also don't like asoiaf right?

You can say its bad(you liked a post that's saying game & book is awful). Even if it is so I just don't find the arguments for it convincing, Its an adolescent fantasy? So are most games. Geralt "wins" every fight? Read the books, he got too many near death experiences & also *spoilers* in the end he dies lol. Course in the game when he dies game's over/most every game's problem. Geralt's protecting Ciri/his daughter is adolescent fantasy? Geralt's a whiny bitch? Geralt is/witchers are emotionless? Its a myth. They are good at hiding their emotions, keeping their nerve. Throwing poo for the sake of it. For cheating & not cheating arguments. Yennefer & Triss were best friends in the books, they had a falling out cos of Geralt. Of course Yennefer would care strongly if they are doing it again She wouldn't necessarily judge or know of 1 offs while he's off adventuring & stuff while their relationship wasn't even set in stone till late in the game/they were on a break for a long period in the books. And its a medieval world ffs. He's off fighting monsters and "can" die in the next battle, he should do something about his enhanced libido now & then. Forgive CDPR for not putting a cheat meter in the game for every brothel visit. --- For the actual thread: It would depend on how successful Obs' future games are gonna be(- duh!) :D Hope Deadfire will be good a game(GOTY 2018, fingers crossed & the user friendly enhancements will pay off. However I wouldn't say no to but wouldn't necessarily want an action rpg out of PoE. I'd rather they keep the god's eye view & RTwP and move to 3D or build & render every map so they could be viewed from at least 4 equally different angles while keeping the 2D beauty lol.

Well...I guess you're right :D He's basically a medieval superhero but he's the older batman rather than the young spidey. Which might be why I don't/can't fantasize myself being him when playing the games. I make the choices for the character rather than for me, I ask myself what would Geralt say/do before I choose to say/do those things. When I read the books I wanted to be Cahir rather than Geralt. All of which don't change the fact that this franchise has about the same level of power fantasy as any other RPG, but its god awful atm for you because its SUCCESSFUL and because ****ting on Bio-games isn't as much fun any more. ed: Oh, also I said "Its your loss if you can't see past the increased libido of a Witcher." cos you were the ones who mentioned repeatedly "he gets the girlz".
