  1. West. West Germany.
  2. I think we are getting ahead of ourselves here. Japan and East Germany turned into economic powerhouses after the war, but I don't think that can be attributed to military intervention. Also, Hiroshima, Nagasaki, yeah, what a true gift from a self sacrificing nation.
  3. Is today the 30th or the 31st. I may have lost a day, these things happen. Sorry I have no suggestions.
  4. Depends on what you mean by 'going out of our way'. Quite often military decisions carry an estimated civilian casualty figure, when it is possible to avoid civilian deaths, the US army does 'go out of its way' to avoid it, when it isn't possible they go do it anyway. Cost of doing business.
  5. I take you're volunteering to go into taliban held territory/the slums of Cairo/the plantations of Morocco and gather forensic evidence then? Oh, and don't forget to gather witnesses! Don't get me wrong, I fully support habeus corpus in civil and criminal courts. But this is hardly normal. Thinking point: we accept the military's ability to judge who is a terrorist when they open fire on people in the field. The fact that they shot back at an invading army doesn't necessarily indicate future intent of blowing things up. War is one thing, necessity dictates there can be no civil proceedings, but who decides when the war is over. These may indeed be dangerous people, but the principle of the thing is clear enough.
  6. While all of this is happening, both sides are working on a nuclear bomb. Germany had to scale down their attempt and could never muster anything close to the Manhattan project. There's another 'what if' for you. What if Germany had been able to allocate those resources.
  7. Who, knows, it's just a saying. Maybe Barbarossa alone would have broken the Reich.
  8. yeah, don't we all think the europeans would be better off saying "heil hitler" every day. damn if only the US hadn't stepped in it would be soooo much better. taks That's one. I wouldn't say that qualifies as many, and besides everyone was in on that one. If you hadn't gotten off your asses you would have been speaking German yourselves. I'll raise you Argentina, Vietnam.
  9. Yeah that all sounds good, in reality it's hard to remember that many times where American intervention left people better off than they were before. Plenty of examples to the contrary.
  10. Well, you know what they say : It's not paranoia if they're really after you.
  11. All we have is the military's say so that they are terrorists, why would one be so quick to accept that.
  12. And the moral of the story, Graphics cards are going to be around a while yet.
  13. I think he actually got the joke, but is intent on revealing the real conspiracy behind it.
  14. Tokyo Gore Police, it makes no sense whatsoever.
  15. Personally I expected more from the tactical map, it gets pretty repetitive very fast.
  16. I can't plug my dual psu into the same socket, or everything will switch off.

  18. No there are just more crackpots out there than you could possibly fathom.
  19. Mechs, there's mechs. I like it already. I just hope they don't get ludicrously tangled up with the space-time continuum, that was always a weak point of the cannon.
  20. I'll be honest, I am a tourist in this thread, life is too short by far.
  21. So he was in on it, what about the firemen who died, did they fake that too, or were they merely expendable. Also were is Mossad in all of this. You can't have a giant conspiracy without Mossad, those are the rules.
  22. It seems plausible, purely viewing the matter from a point of view of motive, that a plane was shot down and then later on became the 'hero plane', but we are back to scale again. In world as media saturated as ours there are simply too many variables, the risk of getting caught staging a plane crash, staging the attendant circumstances that is, outweighs any positive gains. No, what happened here is that the public, the media, the executive, needed the hero plane equally much and created the myth between them. I mean it's all a matter of degrees, and we don't know what went on in those final moments anyway, so why not call them heroes.
  23. How does that go, I remember the name from a philosophy class.

uh, yeah. government sanctioned stealing from one person to pay for another is oppression, i.e., tyranny This is not the kind of response you would expect from me, rather an unusual anecdote. A government economic think tank has recently proposed the following : If you own a home or part of a housing coop, (I'm not sure what the correct English term is here, I'm talking about split ownership of an apartment building for instance where the rent you pay goes to the coop association towards paying back the purchase loan as well as land tax) the government will penalize you by claiming 25% of the profit if you do not use the money to buy another home within a set limit. My apartment is the most expensive thing I own, hell, it's the only expensive thing I own. Some of my friends have payed back their student loans by carefully examining the market and making some smart moves. Everyone has their limits, and I guess this is mine, this is simply too much interference. What if I want to capitalize on the market and rent instead of own for a while, this will cripple my choices in the long run, and I am not an evil speculator hellbent on making owning a house impossible for regular folk, I'm just trying to get along like everyone else.
