  1. Yeah. That's why you are an adult, and are assumed to have freedom of choice. Planning on turning your brain to goo with cocaine? It's nobody's business. That's the failure of universal healthcare. You gotta (should) earn what you have. And I live in a country with universal healthcare (even for those that *don't* pay taxes). Go figure. Sorry, what was that? My brain does this thing where it thinks about something that's actually meaningful whenever a libertarian speaks. Show me this "general agreement", and I'll try to stop this insane laughter thing I get going on every time I read what you posted. Genetics and environment? Perhaps. Choice? Try again. How about you muse about what constitutes free will in another thread. No doubt they take offense, given the condescension implied. Picture some black dude to whom you said "it ain't your fault bubba, it's your genetics". You'd be lucky not to get punched in the face. "Fault" in this case is by itself demeaning. What was that about moral high-horses, again? Stop twisting my words; the point is that it's not a 'fault' at all, and trying to claim it's offensive to call it a lifestyle choice is itself offensive insofar as it implies homosexuality is only 'acceptable' because it is genetic. This is also exactly the reason the gay people I know get riled up about it.
  2. I thought it not worth mentioning, but obviously The Safety Dance would be played at my funeral, too. There would be explicit instructions for the mourners to get up and do the Safety Dance or be ejected from the funeral. Edit: And I'm not kidding.
  3. It reminds me of a hunched over Grinch wringing his hands in anticpation of some heinous evil. That was my first reaction. It could easily imply Diablo 3 to me.
  4. The hype against fat is unfortunate. On one hand you have Stupid Teen Girl Magazine #24755 claiming that fat is bad, and the next article is about how essential n-3 PUFA is!
  5. What if a person values living "well" (i.e. their definition of well meaning eating and drinking like they want instead of what is healthy) over living a long time? Surely that would be a lifestyle choice as much as anything. Why can't it be a lifestyle just because you don't like it or can't see any positives? Are you gonna argue that they're delusional? I'm a bit confounded as I have a hard time seeing what kind of thought pattern that you have behind that kind of statements. I'm not trying to offend or anything as it just seems quite alien to me. The healthcare and economic costs of their folly on society generally nullify the 'benefit' of them not living longer. Further, the majority of them don't value eating over living longer. Large amount of presumption on your part. But hey, I value living "well" on cocaine and ecstasy, why don't you let me go do that instead of living my life? And maybe you should stop getting on my rag about smoking because, hey, it's my life and I'll smoke if I want to. And homosexuality is generally agreed to be an equal measure of lifestyle choice and genetics, so you can all stop your knee-jerk reactions now. Edit: And heck, the fact that anybody would be arrogant enough to deny that homosexuality is half life-style choice has obviously never spent any time around bisexual or homosexual acquaintances/friends but is rather trying to parade about on some sort of moral high-horse. Here's a clue: many find it offensive or at least ignorant to go around defending them with "it's not your fault; it's your genetics".
  6. It's Diablo 3. If it isn't I'll go on a murderous rampage in my local town.
  7. Nine Inch Nails - Right Where It Belongs No rickrolling.
  8. My initial thoughts: "Wtf? If it's level 3 you may as well make it level 1 and gives us the fun of 2 more level ups." I guess it has never made sense to start at level 1 in any RPG, but come on, that never stopped you before! Then again there's that part of me that thinks it's a better idea to close the gap between start level and end level, more in line with a system like Bloodlines or Deus Ex, where it's more about skill than how many HP you have.
  9. A new interview, courtesy of my friend ironman in the IRC channel (#obsid on irc.quakenet.org): http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=191562 Graphics look nice, too, IMHO. 10. I think I absolutely agree with Monte Carlo, but it's generally hard to tell. I think I'm in love with this game.
  11. Eh, I think they found there footing with NWN2 and subsequent xpacks, really. Unless you mean footing in terms of an original IP.
  12. It's what I like to call the '**** approach'.
  13. We've been told that's absolutely not the case.
  14. 1) Australian of convict and immigrant heritage. A mix of Scottish, Irish, German, French and English. And possibly Jewish but my grandmother denies it. I decided in year 6 of primary school that fast food was unhealthy, disgusting, and I was ashamed that my grandmother took me there every second day. I worked at Burger King in year 10, and McDonald's in year 11 and 12. Let me tell you there is nothing healthy or sanitised about those places other than the fact you probably won't get food poisoning. It almost turned me off eating out ever again, but luckily I've never worked at pizza shops or restaurants so I can feign ignorance. I make concessions for pizza about 1 every 2 months on average. Mmm pizza.
  15. sorry, but if you want to go against entire field of independent (meaning no corporate money) scientific studies you're free to do so. Just don't except me to hop in argument where opposing side has no basis or reason. What's next, potato chips are healthy because they're made of potatoes? Well said. It boogles the mind. It's like you've got people trying to defend their 'lifestyle choice' of being fat. It's not a lifestyle choice; homosexuality is a lifestyle choice. Being fat is a stupidity choice similar to shooting up on cocaine. Note: if you're fat and actively trying to lose weight, you have my support. If you're fat, but do regular exercise, you still have my support, but note studies have shown the very act of excess caloric intake decreases lifespan, regardless of fitness/exercise (of course excess caloric intake without exercise is even worse).
  16. Your face is obviously descended from criminals.
  17. I would really like if that would be true. Michael was always one-episode-villan who got dragged along way way too long. Still, I think he stole the cloaked puddle jumper from wraith hangar and survived. I think he survived, too, but I didn't venture as to how - that makes an unfortunate amount of sense. Damn, and here I thought they'd used common sense and dropped an obviously dull plotline as a symbol of the season taking a fresh turn.
  18. Here are some good ones: http://weidu.org/asc.html http://www.team-gizka.org/ http://ja2v113.pbwiki.com/ Enjoy!
  19. Mathematics is rather important. I dunno how you do it over in America, but you should definitely have a firm grasp of matrices, vectors, trigonometry, co-ordinate geometry and calculus before you finish highschool (and I'd suggest taking linear algebra at uni, but I'm not sure what the game industry actually requires). Python is a great, great language to pick up alongside something like Java, Haskell (or LISP or Scheme), or C/C++. Honestly, I can't stress enough how awesome Python is as a general utility programming/scripting language (though I see it used in the game industry fairly regularly, too). And on that note, you should definitely look into the C/C++ pair as your coding mainstay, as framerate says. Isn't that the way of things? It's like these days they don't teach C++ because they want to improve your skillset by teaching you less used, but still useful and interesting languages, paradigms and concepts... but along the way they accidentally forget about the core language(s?) entirely. There was a similar OpenGL graphics course at my old uni, and asking around, there was a similar problem; they'd never explicitly been taught C++ before!
  20. So basically, many core functions of AP and Aliens are designed with modders in mind to some extent?
  21. Note: generally don't convert to jpg. Convert to PNG at 100% quality instead. Chances are it's still 1/10 the size but completely lossless.
  22. Dear god you're retarded.
  23. Yeah, I get that feeling too. But I'd hope that doesn't mean you avoid all the good design decisions made in DX simply because you don't want to be judged against it.
  24. I know there was a recent anti-terror law introduced about detainment but I can't remember how it goes. I think they can hold you for like 2 days or something without charge.
  25. I think Deus Ex did it well - you often choose the first line, and then the conversation went on autopilot from there up till a branch. At least that way you could generally predict dialogue and choose accordingly. What I hear about their tone system seems to indicate that tones don't act consistently/produce consistent results and are thus fairly unpredictable. Which is nice in moderation but not for the entire dialogue system.
