So these pics, there are 8 of them, does that mean we can expect 8 companions? Also, those symbols are weird - if that instagram transcription picture is not outdated then some of them are Vailian, some Aedyrian and some are not in any of these two alphabets. I'm not sure they even spell Deadfire, because the word has 2 D letters but all these symbols are unique. However if there are indeed two or more alphabets involved then perhaps it's true.

A Big World
Aramintai replied to DexGames's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I can't help but compare Vailian Republics to Amn from BG2, they sound kinda similar being all merchant-y and all. It seems like a nice place to start a sequel - to get a ship to sail south to the Deadfire Archipelago. If that's where the main game will take place, that is. Btw, is there a map somewhere of the whole world of Eora? With all the continents and islands? -
This! https://www.instagram.com/p/BJbB6FLAb7Y/?hl=en And also this, coming directly from the pdf he used for his Code Europe talk and kindly shared with his twitter followers: Schermata 2017-01-21 alle 19.14.30.png Oh, and by the way: won't you all look at Obsidian's new homepage... Looks like we're dealing with a brand new corsair-type of character here! Also look at this Josh Sawyer's presentation picture: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/58877228/Code_Europe_2016_Game_Programmers.pdf New Eder (and Pallegina?) picture with him standing on a ship with mast on the background. The other character semi-hidden in the picture doesn't quite look like our Pally, though: if you look closely enough, you can see what seem to be some strings of white hair waving around I mean the right most picture with Pallegina, but I'm not sure, perhaps it's the old one. The character on the same picture with Eder does seem like a new one. A female monk or a mage? Edit: Yea, found it: https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/80868-new-pillars-of-eternity-art-wallpaper/ Pallegina's picture is old. The only new one is the one with Eder and some unknown female.

I'd say it depends. For example, take Edér. I got the ending where he became mayor of Dyrford. If PoE 2 were to feature a brand new protagonist with nothing to do with the Watcher, it would be weird AF to have Edér leave Dyrford and travel to a distant location to fight alongside an unknown low-level dude; it would feel like Edér was just placed there for the sake of having a familiar face. However, if the protagonist were to be the Watcher, then they are someone Edér is attached to—someone he owes to, even. If the Watcher needed his help for something big/important, he may be inclined to leave Dyrford and follow. By contrast, take Durance. He was only traveling with the Watcher to solve his own personal dilemma. At the end of his story arc in PoE he figures things out and his dilemma is solved. His endings, if memory serves, range from his becoming a secluded, disillusioned hermit to his committing suicide (?). In either case, I don't see his will to follow the Watcher around any further as justified or justifiable. That is what I meant by my sentence Yea, I don't have a problem with Eder leaving his mayor post, nobody said it has to be permanent. Same thing with secret Eothasian cult. But I'm not sure about the ending where he leaves to another continent to join with his parents. It's looks rather unlikely for him to swim all the way back to help the Watcher in this one. Perhaps some endings will be made canon? Durance's endings seemed rather final. And frankly, if he weren't the only priest in the game I'd never take that crazy creep into my party. A rather unlikable character, but with an interesting plot, I hope he's not returning in PoE 2 and we get someone more pleasant. I'd even go with that scrapped character Cadegund.

Let's not go down that rabbit hole again Imo, Edér, Aloth, and Pallegina are the three characters from PoE who, based on their personal quests and stories, make the most sense as potential comebacks in PoE 2. I'm not sure how some of their endings allow them to return in a sequel, but I'm sure devs will figure something out. Maybe those endings were like very general strokes of what they will ultimately do in the future after the sequel, or they will simply be retconned. The only one who's endings I felt were unfinished and a good set up for a sequel was Aloth, especially if he decides to take a fight to the Leaden Key. Poor guy, all alone, I wanna help him do it in a sequel at least

Obsidian claim they don't know how to write romances but I think they really don't want all those rabid BioWare romance fans flooding their forums, lol. Personally, if this is a direct sequel with some old companions I wouldn't mind having a romance option like it was in Baldur's Gate II. However, only if it's not forced and well written.
-
Personally, I'd love to have a sequel like Baldur's Gate did - with the same protagonist and companions. They have a backstory now and I've come to care about them, which is better than devs trying to establish a whole new set of characters. I'd rather see those characters further development. And the Watcher still seems like an interesting protagonist with unique ability and a few gods as enemies.

So these teaser images on Twitter with quotes from Eder, Aloth, Pallegina look like these 3 characters will be back in business in PoE 2. Personally, I love all 3 of those, these were my most used companions. I wonder what other old characters will be in PoE 2. I hope the team will be smaller this time, but with more substance. https://twitter.com/Obsidian/status/821781076523651072 https://twitter.com/Obsidian/status/822145350341304321 https://twitter.com/Obsidian/status/822506229691981826

The White March ending slides
Aramintai replied to rivmusique's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
I'm pretty sure this is not how these endings are connected. If you spare the Iron Flail you will never get a peaceful ending, I tried that. But perhaps they are connected somehow, I've seen another entry in the files where Stalwart stops working on the Forge but prospers as a traditional hunting town. So maybe if you save enough citizens, kill the Iron Flail and banish the Eyeless that's how you get it. But, personally, I already found my best endings, so I'm not gonna play through all that again just to test it.- 33 replies

The White March ending slides
Aramintai replied to rivmusique's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Ok, I finally got all the nice-nice endings: I've already written how to get tempered Abydon ending slides on the previous page, so combined with what I did there, for the Stalwart fluffy ending I also did this: starting from White March part 1 I made sure that all the villagers survived (like two in the cave of the cursed shapeshifted druid + the druid himelf; one who fell into a ravine near Durgan's Battery; made sure fishery owner still owns it, etc.). You can kill Harmke though, his death didn't affect anything. This part is important because I've seen a bad slide where Stalwart villagers abandon their ambitions about White Forge entirely because they'd suffered too many deaths. KILLED the Iron Flail, yes, it is a must - they were the troublemakers. During the quest Risk Tolerance I made sure that fishery still operates, the mines are patrolled by Stalwart militia and the White Forge will be used by Crucible Knights' blacksmiths who will share their knowledge. made sure I got rid Stalwart of all active criminal elements, like that drug dealer, for example. was as diplomatic as I could be, trying to tell everyone they should work together So there you go - best ending slides. Actually the rest of them from the original game were also so disgustingly nice that now I'm really looking forward to that new Tyranny game where you can play as a bad guy- 33 replies

Yea, I have a hard time believing he's dead after playing White March and learning how Abydon became a golem. Also, it seems Woedica met a similar fate as Eothas a long time ago - she was burned by Magran and got dethroned. But now she's slowly regaining her power, thanks in no small part to the Leaden Key.

Teir Evron is ancient so it should contain shrines of all the original gods. Why Eothas's shrine and constellation are completely missing? He's been "dead" only for 15 years. And since apparently it's impossible to completely kill a god, take Woedica or Abydon for example, he should still be out there somewhere licking his wounds. Is this an oversight, or devs deliberatly removed him so that the protagonist won't ask him any plot breaking questions?

A Farmer's Plight Quest bugged
Aramintai replied to ClashFan's question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
I think this bug occurs if you already killed an ogre of this same type (in Endless paths level 4, for example), so it's like the game can't differentiate one ogre from another. On my last playthrough I specifically avoided killing any ogres before I got to Dyrford and sure enough the quest proceeded normally.
