  1. Universe simulator is probably an apt description. The universe is populated with 80-90% NPCs (I can't remember the exact number). I am going to try to describe it but it is hard to do in text. Please, don't hold it against me if I don't convey it well. There is a set of single player missions that you can play. They are like a tutorial. There are around 100 solar systems in the game. You can travel to them and land on planets, explore anomalies, etc. Ships range from small individual craft to larger multi crew ships that require 3-8 to fly it. Those places can be filled with NPCs, but are better suited to other players. So, a middle sized ship would have a pilot, 1 or 2 gunners on turrets, someone managing ships energy/shields, possibly a person repairing damage, etc. You can be a pirate, a bounty hunter, a mercenary, a merchant, an explorer, a miner, ,scrapping adrift ships, or run a repair ship etc. Each will have unique game types. The game has systems that are interlinked. The factory that builds a certain ship needs ore to build it, so the miners gather ore (maybe take it themselves or sell it to a merchant to deliver it). If that ore makes it to the factory then all is good and the ships get produced. However, if pirates jump the ship bringing ore then the factory may put out a mission for mercs to help escort a merchant ship carrying that ore to the factory. If they fail then the rewards for the next mission will increase. If it takes too long the supply demand goes off and that ship could have a shortage thus increasing prices. The game will mix sim combat with the fps. Land on a space station for a mission, shoot some guys, somehow the self-destruct gets inititated, and you have to make a break for the docking area back onto your ship to get out. The game will have simulation pits for you to sit in to allow for instanced PVP. Both in ships and fps. Arena commander for ships, and I think Marine commander for fps. Basically the sim pits are like in game video games. There is also open world pvp in certain solar systems, but most of it is controlled via a PVP slider in the players option menu. It is basically a giant sandbox of interconnected systems that allows space dogfighting and fps.
  2. Seems the backlash from the concept of the Peeple app has caused them to change policies on negative reviews. http://thenextweb.com/apps/2015/10/05/peeples-app-has-pivoted-and-is-now-completely-pointless/ Not a website I am terribly familiar with, and I don't know how trustworthy it is, but there are a few others via a Google search of "Peeple App" under the news tab. Without the negative reviews the app becomes a stripped down Facebook of likes only. Ineth was potentially correct.
  3. "They that give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." - Ben Franklin Sad that the people in the position to create these apps don't understand the concept. I also wonder about the legal ramifications of this app. I don't believe it should be legal to strong arm individuals into adopting this app in order to defend their character. Your app should only be widely accepted if it is wanted by the masses. It shouldn't let a small subset of the population force others into adoption just because they feel compelled to defend themselves. For better or worse, I will avoid Peeple.
  4. As a backer of SC, the more time goes on the more my faith in the project dwindles. As of a month or so ago, with the way ships moved and how aim intensive the game is/was, the only peripheral that was viable was a mouse and keyboard. I am not against M&K being viable, but I bought into the project to relive the old WC and Tiefighter days, and the Joystick/Hotas setups in the alpha are abysmal. Or they were the last time I played a month or 2 ago. The devs have danced around the subject since Arena Commander launched. I will gain more faith again when piloting the ships with a joystick isn't a death sentence in their matchmaking. If that never happens then I will move on. My guess is it will do well initially, but fizzle out in a short time. They haven't hit any deadlines, and keep pushing new ships, guns, etc to keep the money flowing. I hope I am wrong, but a year of little to nothing in terms of progress has left me a bit sour.
  5. I backed at the $125 level, but I keep looking at that jacket thinking, "Don't tempt me, Frodo!!!"
  6. If Valve is even moderately successful with their Linux endeavors then things can still get better. I still think these Machines are Valve playing a game of assimilation over many years vs the traditional console paradigm of success via attrition. So even if the initial sales are mediocre I won't see it as a failure. If anything I would look at the numbers when the next series of consoles from Sony and MS launch. Edit: I also appreciate the Linux version. Thanks, obsidian!

  8. Combat is supposed to come in a later Alpha, iirc.
  9. @Nonek - By the end of the alpha you gain some attribute points and your "adjective" (Charming, Mechanic, mystic, etc. You don't get a "Noun" or class (Glaive, Jack, Nano) and neither do you get your verb. A character within the system follows the sentence where they are a "Adjective" "Noun" who "verbs". EG - I'm a Cunning(adj) Jack(noun) who wields a bow(verb) or a Mystic(adj) Nano(noun) who controls gravity(verb). So I definitely believe this isn't the entirety of character creation. It is definitely wordy, but as a PST spiritual successor I don't know if that is a bad thing. @Lexx - I haven't tried a game pad, but I expect that stuff to come post launch like Wasteland 2.
  10. It's basically just a handful of conversations at the beginning of the game that is a character generator via in game dialogue. It is good about not breaking the fourth wall. It is close to the length of the first level of mortuary from PST, but smaller in actual area size, and it is all dialogue. You make choices that are derived from might, speed, and intelligence that will dictate your Castoff's Class (Glaive, Jack, Nano), and other character details. EDIT: it is a memorable start, but not quite PST in that hopping off a slab to have a conversation with a floating skull is hard to top. However, I am definitely excited to see more.
  11. One of my favorite movies.
  12. I like Milo for the same reason. He is pretty hilarious.
  13. Parliment told Churchill he was a scaremonger every time he told them Germany would be a problem. Fact is, history has a few moments where progressives give despotic cultures, countries, or whatever the benefit of the doubt. Time and again it has lead to a confrontation down the line. This time it involves nuclear power. I doubt all of us will be here for a "next time.". However, against all historical evidence maybe it will work this time. I doubt it.
  14. Does that make Mexico shoes or pants? Mexico is America's tie.
  15. Yeah, are you trying to tell us that no black person ever taught their child to hate/avoid/bully/whatever white people, Bruce? I am pretty sure that is false. Everyone has parents and grand parents to pass on prejudice to them. Parents and Grand Parents are not just something white people have.
  16. Meshugger you thrive on this website, I can't think of why you would want to make yourself more depraved? You'll be happy in my world, trust me I think most of us that disagree with you on a regular basis on these forums are pretty copasetic in not drinkIng Jim Jones' magical elixir.
  17. GOG had refund policy months before STEAM. https://www.gog.com/support/website_help/money_back_guarantee I think it's bad timing. Steam refund stuff came into the door like right before the games release, so everyone still had it in mind when this turd got released. Steam also being the biggest platform didn't help either. You can't release a bad PC port on a platform that houses the vast majority of your audience just after it implements a refund policy and not expect backlash. It was a stupid move on WBs part. It played well enough for me though. Dunno how... I did get some huge frame drops when calling in the batmobile most of the time, but it leveled out after a few seconds. It was playable, but only just. I am not as snooty about frames in a single player game as many PC players are (in multiplayer games I don't play with bad frames though), but I will definitely wait a while for patches before attempting New Game +. Still like Asylum the most.
  18. That's a fair point. Didn't think of it that way.
  19. Except that is all this ordeal has become, Gromnir. It is a blame game. The south is racist. Those flags prove it. Anyone defending those flags are deemed a Klan member and burned at the stake (metaphorically). The videos you linked, probably in jest, kinda prove that point. However, let's not talk about those other flags as that is finger pointing. Sorry, if the South has dirty hands then we Americans all have dirty hands. I find it funny that we also like to say slavery in the South. Slavery was in America. The north had slaves as well, but came to their moral senses faster. Guess what? The people in the Union had slaves prior to the whole war, but we don't talk about that either. However the north are the perfect little angels while us southerners are the devil. It is incredibly obnoxious. "The history of slavery in the South" = let's avoid that fact that slavery was an American issue first. It seems fine to claim the southern slavery situation worse because their was a war? It lasted longer in the South? IMHO, it was all foul and done under every flag prior to abolition. In the end racism as it exists will remain after those flags are down. Eventually all the mirrors will be broken and the smoke cleared and the only thing left to look at will be Government institutions and humanity as a whole. No more boogie man to blame, and we will have lost just as much as we gained. Say what you will about the South... Charleston hasn't rioted.
  20. I agree with that blurb, as well, Ineth. I do love how America acts like civil rights violations only have occurred south of the mason Dixon line, and/or were only Confederate issues. The Japanese-Americans in internment camps during WW2, those native Americans on the trail of tears, those that died of small pox delivered by blankets all might feel differently. Those atrocities were committed under the American Flag.
  21. My favorite thing in all this are the insane and stupid arguments from both sides. "The rebel flag represents treason.". I just shake my head. Seems these stupid people don't realize they live in a country that was founded because of treason. "Here is a video of one african-American who is cool with the flag..." This is the political equivalent of "I am not racist... I have a black friend." Also, liberals patting themselves on the back because Wal-Mart and Amazon aren't selling confederate merchandise anymore. So, you are celebrating because 2 mega-corporations decided the positive press of removing these items from their stores is better than the marginal loss in annual sales. I could see it if they said they were going to give X amount of money to the families and church based on how much they have made on that merchandise. But no... They just have to feign a conscience and we are all "well, they do have a heart" or "we are making a real change."
  22. I would go a step further and say a large portion of that demographic doesn't know good writing at all. They are the same people that keep Michale Bay in business in Hollywood. I also do not care for GTA, but I loved RRR and enjoy Max Payne. However, I like westerns so I am more forgiving with RRR. Max Payne feels like a guilty pleasure.
