The thing is that Fallout3 will most likely appeal to Morrowind fans more than it will appeal to fans of Fallout and classic CRPG's. Bethesda has a completely different approach to CRPGs than BIS, BioWare, Troika or Obsidian. And this quote proves that Bethesda intend to stick with their method because that is what they do best. Unfortunately, that will not result in a game that fans of CRPGs will enjoy as it it favours exploration over roleplaying.

I agree that it was really well done, smooth animation and all that jazz. But there wasn

Not really, Ive been sayin that ever since Morrowind came out. A cow dont make ham and Bethesda doesnt make good CRPG's

Its like I said, hoping that Bethesda will make a real CRPG out of Fallout3 is like hoping that cats will start laying eggs. Its just not what they do.

What is more important in an adventure game?
Kaftan Barlast replied to Diogo Ribeiro's topic in Computer and Console
My advice when making an adventue game is: All 'puzzles' must be logical and fit into the storyline. If a character needs to get through a locked door, let him steal a passkey from a guard. Dont make him "take the rubber sheep and put that on the statue so youll get the bicycle pump, now talk with the Polar bear and convince him to build you a hoovercraft.." Thats fun for you, but not the player who has to resort to hours of trial-and-error or simply consult a walkthrough. -
(w00t) I have an 80 Gb front drive and 5 320 Gb additional drives and 2 are full and a third is close to it. Hell, some of my folders alone are 40 Gb! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> And I thought I had a lot of headspace with my 100+160+250

Neverwinter Nights 2 new screenshots!
Kaftan Barlast replied to Meshugger's topic in Computer and Console
Thats about the only problem I see with NWN2. The graphics are VERY similar to Gothic2's and that is bad because I dont think they fit what I see as the general mood of D&D's forgotten realms setting. Their similarity is also disturbing in itself, its like theyve done it on purpouse. -
The example I can come up with is that you can change the type of edit vertex/face/line just by rightclicking in Maya whereas in Max you have to use the menu to the right. The #1 reason Ive heard mention is the price, Maya is getting cheaper but I think Maya4 was around $8000 for a single license and that is alot of money for a developer.

Ive dabbled in both Maya and MAX and its no doubt that Maya offers the most intuitive interface when building 3D models. Or a broken compromise, you never know.

Creating your own PnP rules system
Kaftan Barlast replied to Kaftan Barlast's topic in Pen-and-Paper Gaming
For now Ive decided to use a simple round based system like D&D or Fallout uses. You determine initiative, then all invovled in combat will take turns to move and take actions. I didnt want to split it up into phases because that will create more fuss and slow things down. So only a Lvl10 character would stand a chance to dispatch even a lvl1 enemy with a single attack? How much does the health increase per level? I dont know how your modifiers are constructed, but it seems like the system would make last combat a very long time. -
I was just out with some friends, we went to a nice Indian restaurant and I had lamb Vindaloo. But Im thinking, why even bother to choose different courses, theyre all just brownish goo with meat/chicken/fish in it?

And very effectively ELIMINATING actual roleplaying right there. I knew it! I HATE BETHESDA!!!! Explanation: Roleplaying on the computer depends on giving the player the opportunity to express his character through dialouge options. The player must be able to be friendly, rude, arrogant, humorous etc. through choosing dialouge options. If you replace real lines like "Yes, sweet beautiful Ravel. I came back for you, my love" with keywords "Ask about: magic weapons" or simple yes/no options. Youre not playing anyone else but yourself, sitting at the computer, playing a game. Youre not roleplaying anymore than if youre playing Super Mario Bros. for the NES

I dont think it is very likely that the new moderator, if there will be one, is selected from out of our ranks.

Actually they werent. I played both Arena and Daggerfall on release. Daggerfall was just the same same as Arena so I wont take on that but Arenas sole selling point was the huge world with lots of random loot. In all other aspects, it was the same as the rest of the First-Person CRPGs of the time (FP dominated over Top-down then) like Ultima Underworld or Menzoberranzan. Neither Daggerfall or Morrowind were cutting edge games graphicswise but they did keep up to their time and so does Oblivion, you cant make an AAA list game and not have an engine that supports normal maps today. (well ok you can, but not a first-person 3D game for the PC)
-
Yes, its not like the big gaming mags and sites have grossly overgraded a game in the past, is it? " I sincerely doubt that Oblivion will appeal to anyone else but Morrowind fans. Sure, I could be wrong and Bethesda could have done a 180degree turn and made a CRPG that isnt just a singleplayer MMO without roleplaying or substance.

One thing I find very odd is that you have access to a plethora of weird races for your player character but you will still be a no-name vilager? I mean for instance, what would a lone Durgear be doing living the quiet life in a human vilage?! ..although I suppose the PC can be.. adopted. Yes, thats it. Adopted " -

And those kinds of companies make up about 0.01% of the corporate world. In fact thats a company, not a corporation. A corporation is an econimical unity started by a group of rich guys so they wont be held personally accountable if it goes down the tube. Id advise you to look at real corporations like Enron, Shell, Hasbro, Halliburton, Lockheed-Martin, Boeing and so on. These companies were started, or bought up by rich people to make themselves even more money.

There are other areas where this type of heavy-handed regulation would do more good but this is a step in the right direction. Corporate boards have been "boys clubs" for as long as the idea of a corporation has existed and if they refuse to adhere to policies of equality legislated by the democraticly elected goverment, then they must be punished.

What kind of person in the right mind would voluntarily spend hours treading around in sewers?! Theyre filled with festering human and animal excrements, rotten throwaways of everything from fishguts to onions, maggot-filled carcasses of farm animals and pets, every unhealthy home-use chemical known to man and the general filth that the rainwater washes down. Anyone spending longer than a few minutes in that kind of enviroment would need to do a fortitude check not to catch something nasty yesh!

No, Moose. All that prooves is that time/change is not constant but is affected by exterior conditions (like gravity). That "time" can go faster or slower depending on circumstance doesnt mean you can timetravel. Theoreticly, you could go up in a spaceship, swoosh around and then come bad and find that youve only aged 1 day when everyone else has aged 2 days. But that isnt time travel.
