  1. Whoever said publishers possess intelligence? ..I would beliege theyre making a sequel because they believe that the first game established a "brand" that will make sales of the sequel easier. They completely forget that people wont buy the sequel if the first game was bad
  2. 2unlimited were actually not the worst of the Eurodisco plague. There was much worse, but theyve been mercifully lost to the world. ..and Ive never heard 50cent
  3. April can be a bit annoying but its one of my favorite Adventure games. Ill definently have Dreamfall on pre-order But a question, did anyone actually figure out the rubber ducky, pliers thingie to get the key in the subway station by themselves?! I had to resort to a walkthrough, it was just waay too much "you take the bicycle pump and use it on the sky to get the remote, then you use the cornstalk with the shoe polish on the polarbear statue.." over it
  4. My system uses just three health levels/intervals because each level brings with it a whole bunch of penalties and having 5 levels would just make it harder to manage without really adding anything. Also my system measures damage recieved, not health points. This is because the brain does addition faster than subtraction and so a player will be able to calculate that having been hit for 4 points and then 8 makes 12 total damage points an checking that against his damage levels faster than if he had to subtract the damage from his Health points. I will have an encumberance system if the advanced rule section but its separate from the health levels even though it might be more realistic to have them interact. As this system is made for play in a contemporary enviroment, there is naturally no magic whatsoever. (and the combat focuses on firearms) I havent actually thought about the similarities between Drakar&Demoner (1991 edition, all the editions had new rulesets) and GURPS. It has more in common with GURPS than D&D f.ex in that it doesnt use abstracts like AC(or THACO) but thats where the similarities end.. it uses d20 and not d6's
  5. What it does is split your HP pool into 3 intervals, 0% 33% 66% (examples, not actual intervals) and each interval brings a set of penalties to reflect how the damage taken affects the characters ability to act and think. These intervals are written out on the character sheet so you wont have to remember wether your "injured" interval begins at 8 or 9 This far there is only one HP pool for the entire body. It might be a good idea to have separate pools for each bodypart with a general pool to determine how the total damage taken affects you through bloodloss and pain. The RPG I was brougt up on, Drakar & Demoner v.1991* had separate damage pools for each limb, chest, belly and head. *random detail: the game borrowed some classes from D&D like monk or bard but these were completely different in that the monk was a christian-model monk with no combat skills whatsoever and that the bard was simply just an entertainer with no combat skills or magic. thus, a D&D player who went over to this swede system was in for a nasty surprise
  6. How do I know the new version from the old?
  7. I believe in the sacred deity known to man as "Jultomten" (in the holy lanugage of swedish) or to lesser beings as "Santa Claus" or "Father Christmas" or "Weinachtsman" or "Santaru Crausu"(engrish is a handicap and not something to be laughed at " ) If you wear the colour red without the written permission of the church of santa claus, this means a deep mockery of every believer of santa in the world and to santa himself and thus you must be turned inside out. I demand that anyone, whoever they may be and whoever they may live, found guilty of this be extradited to the church of santa claus to be turned inside out! This also applies to anyone denying the existence of santa. Furthermore, anyone who doesnt believe in santa or believes in another deity than santa, must be beaten with a candy cane until dead or until he/she converts to the church of santa. FEAR THE TOMTE OF JUL!!
  8. Im currently studying 3D modeling/texturing/animation at the University and we all use laptops to run 3Ds MAX and Zbrush. It is not as resource intensive as it may seem. Oh, and I would recommend using MAX since that is what the majority of studios use.
  9. (most) games are entertainment, not art. For a an item (movie, book, picture, sculpture) to be considered art is must have been made with the intention of creating a piece of art that has some deeper meaning(could be an abstract meaning like to induce a certain state of mind aswell as a conrete one like making a comment o the vietnam war). If you draw a picture with the sole intention of making a goodlooking drawing, its not art. If you make a game with the primary goal of entertaining people, its not art either. Art within a game or film isnt really art either, its graphics. Its very strange that you anglians dont have separate words for a person who paints fine art in a studio and a guy making orcs in 3DsMAX or working out the concept of what NPC X is going to look like
  10. The Civ 4 demo is particularly well designed and will take one through all the bullet points of Civilization godliness. Don't get to hung up on the details, just watch the effects of decisions ... Next, read the manual
  11. This is just repeating hat you said, Josh, but as technology becomes more readily available and becomes simple enoug that real games can be made the indie-way, we will see drama that breaks the PG-13 mold. Or maybe all it takes is for games to become a media accepted enough to draw the attention of more mature crowds. But now there are unspoken rules. In things like how its ok for a villain to kill the protagonists family but it is NOT ok for him to rape his girlfriend and then stab her to death with a broken beer bottle. And anti-heroes remain just ordinary heroes with a slightly different etiquette and attitude. They always have the generic dark past but its never really despiccable things like pushing your pregnant mistress down a flight of stairs because she wouldnt get an abortion. Then theres the more pihlosophical variety of evil but its a bit too late for me to dive into those issues.
  12. If OE are using the same MAX+Zbrush method to create models/skins/displacement maps as us then it wont be that complex to make new models and maps. In a way it will be easier because the way those programs work together
  13. I got Civ4 from school but I havent played it yet or any earlier part of the Civ ilisation series. Whats the best way to play it? Should i run a campaign or play against some friends?
  14. I have it, it includes a nifty short film about Sadako.. (Im sorry, I mean the little girl who is in no way inspired by a certain series of Japanese films) the girl at the laboratory, torturing a female psychologist who is sent to analyse her.
  15. I think anarchism is a very nice idea that has been the target of an even bigger blacksmear than communism... and the occasional fun Monthy Python sketch " WOMAN: King of the who? ARTHUR: The Britons. WOMAN: Who are the Britons? ARTHUR: Well, we all are. we're all Britons and I am your king. WOMAN: I didn't know we had a king. I thought we were an autonomous collective. DENNIS: You're fooling yourself. We're living in a dictatorship. A self-perpetuating autocracy in which the working classes-- WOMAN: Oh there you go, bringing class into it again.
  16. I think the "horror" parts of FEAR are too inane to deserve mention. Just waking up in the morning is a far scarier than anything that game throws at you. Some weapons like the M16A2 feature a 3-round burst mode In reality, yes. But that you cant fire single shots or controlled bursts in FEAR is because the developers could not make accomplish code that made it possible to adjust the number of rounds fire by clicking and holding the mouse button and at the same time get the sound effects match the rate of fire. Its like how old FPS games like Soldier of Fortune didnt feature a steady rate of automatic fire (ratatatatata) because the program wouldnt repeat the audio evenly, creating this strange staccato gunfire (rat..tat.tat....tat....tatat..tat) ..and yes, this is and has always been a huge pet peeve of mine. p.s Battlefield 2 has a really great firing system, it allows perfect control and a really nice gun feeling.
  17. Ive been playing FEAR for quite a while now and apart from not being very scary, it has a severe problem with how the guns fire. The firing sequence is programmed so that whenever you tap the mouse, a preset number of shot fires. This makes it impossible to control your fire properly and is very frustrating. Not only does it make it much harder to conserve ammo but when shooting at long range it decreases accuracy as the shots scatter uncontrollably at full auto fire.
  18. It makes me damn proud to see that even google knows to respect the right of a non-democraticly elected goverment to decieve and repress its citizens with good old censorship!
  19. I just thought of something very strange, the original article appeared in Jyllandsposten in SEPTEMBER 2005 but the actual blowback doesnt come until now.
  20. They are, left to right Charvel model..something, 80's hairmetal guitar 1997(that means its got a full mahogany body) Gibson Les Paul Studio with DiMarzio and Armstrong pickups 1974 Eko Tramp 2 with genuine VoX pickups(worth more than the guitar itself) 1970's Hagstr
  21. An impressive collecting given the fact that I dont play guitar anymore and that I sucked when I did.
  22. I played paintball once and unless youre up close you cant see if you hit either. You just pop off a few shots in some bush 20m away and hear someone yell "Hit!"
  23. Google is yout friend.
