The graphics are actually very nice, it does not look 2 year old ingame. But seriously, what other reason could they have for simplifying gameplay other than to compete with action shooters? And if you remove features from a game without adding anything, thats dumbing down.

At Uni I have this teacher who is obsessed about gameplay, and after a year one cant avoid being influenced. A few years ago, I thought it was ok for the GM to bend the rules in favour of his npc's, villains, monsters etc. but now Ive completely changed my mind. The thesis is this: RPG's are games, and in a game it is vital that all involved parties play by the same rules in order for it to be fair and enjoyable. A RPG like D&D 3.5 have rules that are constructed, balanced and meant to be used. The DM is free to cook up whatever story he sees fit, but he CANNOT let an NPC move further thah 5 feet after performing a full-round action, no matter if he is "always right" or not. If I play with a GM that breaks the rules in his favour, I not only feel like im being railroaded, but like Im on a railroad travelling uphill. Whats the point of playing if the GM is just going to do what he wants no matter what I do? Then I might aswell watch a film instead.

Although I have to say that I enjoyed the Fallouts more than PST, but thats just the setting... and SPECIAL Oh, go play some game thats more to your tastes... like Divine Divinity "

I think the thing is that previous Rainbow 6 titles like Ravenshield were developed for the PC and then ported to consoles, whereas Lockdown was designed for consoles from the beginning and thus more action and less planning.

Im playing Dreamfall now. Its bloody gorgeous, even on my laptop with an horrific ATI x700 mobile. On my Gf7900GTX it looks better than... most games though it makes no pretense of looking realistic ( see engine http://www.shark3d.com/ ) but im quite worried because it plays way too fast and wastes its assets. You have this beautiful scenery that must have taken the graphics team a long time to do, and you can just rush it through in no time at all because there are only like one or two things to do in each scene. I suppose its the classic "console kids are dumb as hell and have an attention span of around 1.5 seconds so you cant make a real game" speech from MS

Yep, its the usual console dumb-down. I think the claimed the real reason was to make it more action-filled but the AI is as moronic as usual and there are no fun gunfights, either you shoot them in the head or they shoot you in the head. What reall annoys you though, is that theyve ****ed up how you shoot. You lean round a corner and double-tap your mouse to take down a baddie but the game lags and only lets you fire a single shot... sometimes it does fire all the shots but in a lagged staccato so you miss what you aim at. It works fine in full auto but being all cool and commando by using single fire is out of the question.
