Wisdom is THE most important stat in the game because it unlocks many dialogue options, clues and also gives you more experience points. It is imperatie that you have a high WIS.

I don't know where to buy those. Amazon.ca doesn't have them (I'm not paying the shipping and customs charges for Amazon.com) and the local Chapters doesn't carry comics (or at least not when I last looked). <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I got mine today. The #0 isnt a comic at all but a sketchbook with artwork and a bit of background info. Ive got a bad feeling about it though. I wont know until I read the first actual issue but it doesnt feel like Star Wars at all. The Yuzan Vong has completely mucked up the galaxy, the character design is too spaced out and.. well, I hope its better than it seems.

The US and Brit system of measuring small arms ammunition calibers is based on measuring the diameter of the bullet in percentages of an inch, wheras the euro system measures the diameter of the bullet aswellas the length of the casing in millimeters. Thus the common caliber .45 ACP used in Colt m1911 among others, is 45% of an inch in diameter. The euro name for it is 11,43 x 23mm which also tells the length of the casing. ( had a programer refer to a gun in a game as "50 milimeter" the other day so had to look this up )

Have you ever had a PnP campaign run just right?
Kaftan Barlast replied to Kaftan Barlast's topic in Pen-and-Paper Gaming
Other failed campaigns this year hat werent GM'd by me: 1. "Runing out of gas" The adventure starts out fine but then we find that we have to leave the city and travel across the desert to some abandoned military base. Then nothing happens.. we play another session nothing again... the second session has a random encounter.. the third session flies by with a yawn.. and then we go home for christmas and thats the end of it. Note: If you cant improvise, plan ahead. If you havent got anything planned, dont play. 2. "A buildup into nothing" A new game, different GM, custom setting. Not only do we not have a clue what the setting is about or what the adventure is going to be like but we're also forced to do a "Fable" and play two pre-sessions as children in which nothing actually happens. The third time we get to play "15 years later" as adults but we just go around at random doing nothing. In the middle of the second session in which nothing has happened yet, I say "**** it" and goes home to watch Tv instead. We never play aother session of that game or the campaign again. Note: An intro is a short thing in which the players get a notion of whats to come. Its not something that should take 4 sessions and still leave the players clueless. -
Me and some other people here at Uni whove played a lot of PnP were talking about the campaigns weve played during the year and in the past and it struck me that I have never ever managed to GM a campaign without a single mishap. The last debacle found itself permanently put on ice because I made the common mistake of getting so heavily into the backstory and NPC's, that the players themselves were nothing but redundant supporting casts. We did play but the players actually never got to experience the REAL story that was going on in my head. - Have you ever had a campaign running perfectly smooth? - What mishaps have you had? What mistakes have you made? - Whats the worst campaign youve ever played in?

I think it's an awesome concept, and more games should use it. I think it sucks. I want to aim myself (I hate when I aim correctly but the game decides that I miss, without explanation) but I want the damage I inflict to be based on my skill. A much more intelligent, smooth and intuitive system. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> For once we agree, the "how come I missed by a mile when I was aiming right at him?!" sensation of Deus Ex ruined the gameplay completely for me... as do all games that give the appearance that you have exact control but you dont. examples.. Gothic 2 was horrible( it felt lke my character suffered from somekind of nerve disease until I reached lvl15 or so) but Oblivion managed to do it quite nicely although its stil clunky.

The insta-kill sneak attacks you get almost makes it worth it

But what they actually do, is to act as a deterrent for employees thinking about quitting their job in order to join another company that offers better wages/benefits/fun. Lets say an evil company... we'll call them EA, has John the talented graphics programmer quit to join ID instead because EA forces him to work 12h a day without compensation. They dont like that, so when they manage to hire Jim the gullible programmer, they make him sign a non-compete so if he quits, hell have to work at McDonalds for 6months before he can work in the game industry again. Thus, Jim knows he will be penalized if he quits so he stays on and works 12h shifts without compensation. EA doesnt do this because they believe Jim will nick their secret Scrotum Engine

Or... The Lockheed-Martin special purpousebuilt Tomahawk Bear Edition

* Thats called a CNC (Covenant Not to Compete) or simply "Non-competition clause" and it is a legal contract that IMO, should be illegal. From what Ive read, theyre only accepted in the US and only enforceable in some states. Their purpouse is to prevent employees from leaving the company to work for another company or to start up a bussiness of their own in the same market. I suppose it makes sense from a corporate standpoint, but it is grossly unethical.

Anything Carmack related it seems. I know NWN was OpenGL. Though I believe Carmack himself is impressed with the improvements DirectX had made. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The chief reason why Carmack stays with OpenGL is that it is infact multi-platform whereas DirectX is strictly limited to windows systems. This is one of the reasons behind why there will be no Linux version of NWN2. ( and as a graphics whore/artist extraordinaire, I still think the D3 engine is extremely impressive )

What Ive heard of Windows Vista, its not something Id like to have on my computer unless I absolutely had to. Tons of MS-spyware, DRM's and more

I could understand it the first time! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Quiet you. ( although I do have a friend that is actually called "kuken" he is a wiz with C# )

HORAN: sorry phone. anybody want pizza? APAN: Uh.. I guess. Hey! Anyone found a two-handed axe yet? I took wep spec on that when I levelled. KUKEN: What are you waiting for, lets go. ME: Wait.. what did the NPC say? KUKEN: FFS cant you guys ****ing keep up? He gave us some quest about going to a village or something. ME: Ok. and Id appreciate if you waited for us so we could have heard hat he said too. KUKEN: Whatever APAN: HELLO?!! I NEED A TWO-HANDED AXE!!!! HORAN: I cant find the menu. "

I absolutely hated Morrowind but I had fun playing Oblivion for a while. Then the whole single-player MMO style got very tedious. Its also much more of an action adventure game as there are barely any opportunities to roleplay your character. The game is only playable in 3rd person if you are a melee fighter. If you want to use ranged weapons or spells you need to go to 1st person mode to be able to aim properly.

It's ok to feel a sense of relief when a bad man goes away, but to gloat over his death is a little too macabre for my tastes.

Then how can people claim that movies are art? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Most films are purely entertainment, but in film a small number of extremely driven people have succeeded in bending the medium to their will and create films which are works of art. The whole "auteur" thing and that.
-
Art is what happens when an artist lets himself loose on a canvas, lump of clay or sheet of paper. When youre making game graphics, you work entirely with someone elses ideas and your work is constantly checked and corrected. The primary function of a Lead artist is to ensure that every piece of graphics for a game has the same look and style. And in that climate, its not possible for the kind of individualistic expression that true art requires. Also, a game is a very very compromised medium where a single genius will find it impossible to achieve something that is even close to his original medium. And art must never ever compromise.
-
There are artistic aspects in the development process but 99.9% of every game released has been for the purpouse of entertainment. and as a sidenote: I study computer game design and graphics and its strange that the english does not differentiate between an artist(picasso) and an artist(someone who produces graphics for a computer game). Game CGI is about illustrating the visions of the designers, not to create a work of art.

Hehe, I remebver that when Voodoo went ape just before they crashed. They released a card with six GPU's that never made it to retail, didnt they? edit: I would also like to add that the Geforce 8 rumours are pure hearsay, its entirely possible nothing will be released until well into 2007. Although most people think it will be timed with the release of Windows Vista

Your PC reports to Microsoft daily

Although, this requires that you were stupid enough to let windows update install WGA on your system in the first place.
