There wont be any ATI cards in my computers until they seriously shape up (well, apart from the one thats in this one " ) and HDR has to be the most overrated eye-candy to date. the only game it looked good in was Hl2, in Oblivion or Farcry it just looks like someoe smeared vaseline on the inside of my screen and cranked up the brightness (no, Im not confusing it with LightBloom)

I always though NWN was BioWare IP.. aparently not so

In my steadily growing rules system, Ive replaced the usual "dexterity/agility" with Speed and Precision. Their usage is quite obvious and also quite necessary since my system is modern and so is made for ranged firearm combat (you can be quick to draw but youve got to be able to hit your opponent awell) and random tidbit, Ive never understood why D&D uses traits that go from 1-18+ but never ever uses anything but the modifiers? Wouldnt it be easier to just have a strength of 4 rather than 18(+4) ?

But.. why would you want to play Psychonauts on the 360 if you can play it on your PC??! Their CEO was at out exhibition a few weeks ago, nice chap. But, there is no such thing as "I cant get X because it hasnt been released in Country Y" because there are a million online retailer thatll ship to anywhere from the north pole to the mongolian desert.

I was recommended ASUS by my more knowledgeable friends, theyre cheaper and just as reliable as the flashier brands like BFG. Although that fan thing might be true, the chipset fan on my A8N motherboard gave up quite quickly. Yes, thats why I took the stock cooler off my old 6800u and replaced it with a Zalman that I ran on just 5volt... and why I have a special dampened case... and fanless heatsinks wherever they fit. I wont be touching this new card though, atleast in a visible way because Ive learnt that a warranty is a good thing to have

Id just like for someone relatively impartial to take a look at his sources, this all seems a bit too fantstic to be true. Hehe, they interiew Hunter S. Thompson for a commentary on how the American news networks covered 9/11 "

I have the ears of a Ferengi.

The 1900's sound like blowdriers and I dont think getting those extra 3fps in Quake4 is worth that noise.

Its not double power, its not even noticeable until you run in 1600x1200 with max AA+AF and my 17" screen cant go higher than 1280x1024. So.. Ive just placd an order for a Geforce7900GTX, unfortunantly, they ran out of ASUS cards while I was being indecisive so I had to buy a BFG card instead but the reviews say its quiet and I get a free Tshirt to comfort me.

So OE are actualy working on three projects at once? NWN2, PNJ and PG. That seems a little odd I didnt know they had the capacity and the manpower to do that. Unless PNJ is on ice, that is. I just hope they wont be console-exclusive

260 shots in two days??!! We have a pro MoCap studio at Uni and Id be surprised if someone got as many as 5-10 successful captures in one day.

Ill have to place the order tonight for it to get here in time, so now the choice must be made. GX2 Just brutal raw power that will last a long time Draws less power than an ATI x1900XTX GTX Is just as fast as the GX2 in 1280x1024 with maxed AA+AF Is very quiet Costs only 80% of a GX2 Wont require me to mod my chipset cooler to fit in my comp

What is good about Gothic 2 ?
Kaftan Barlast replied to Kaftan Barlast's topic in Computer and Console
Noun: genre zhaanru A class of art (or artistic endeavour) having a characteristic form or technique Characteristics: Fantasy: medievalism, magic, swordfighting Sci-fi: technology, space, alien species Western: southwest america, cowboys & indians Horror: monsters, murders and ghosts Genres as an idea are defined by the public, thus the public definition of a genre is the correct one. The modern vampire was invented in the late 1800s, it is a creature of victorian horror, not fantasy in any way (even though most fantasy games have their version of vampires) -

Meaningless discussion about semantics ohoy!! ) But seriously, Hades. For the overwhelming majority, fantasy means swordplay, dragons and magic in a pseudo-medieval world. It doesnt matter that youve got this neat academic definition, because the mob rules. Dungeons&Dragons - Fantasy LotR - Fantasy Word of Warcraft All that crap with wheels of time and enchanters and Conan and crap - Fantasy Vampire the Masquerade - Not fantasy Star Wars - Not fantasy Dune - not fantasy -
This is one of the details you seldom have time for when making games. Youd have to script reactions for every single person-object in he game which takes time and is quite tedious. Still, Id like to see something change if I obliterate half the citys population in a game like NWN2 I dislike it too, because its something you usually have no control over. You could be blasting away handsomely at some raiders when all of a sudden the AI of your **** party member decides its a good idea to use burst fire on an enemy standing with some kids next to him ---> Instant Colateral Damage!! Wee! *quickload*

What is good about Gothic 2 ?

I hated Morrowind but I had a fun time with Oblivion until it just became to repetitive. I think the developers of the Gothic series wanted to make Oblivion, but failed in that the had neither the time, money or the experience to do so successfully. G2 had a huge advantage over Oblivion in that they have real dialogue, though. But I still felt it adds more to the roleplaying experience to be able to create your own character rather than be stuck with that ponytail guy(Ive forgot his name). PST got away with a premade PC because TNO was in himself a key to the story and interesting to play. Ive bought, played and discarded G2 so Im entitled to my opinions. But the purpouse of this thread is that I would like to know exactly what about it you found so appealing because I cant see it. -
Thee are people among us, I dont need to say who, that not only think "Gothic 2" wasnt some completely mediocre jerry-RPG.. but actually goes to such lengths a to praise it. Now, what I want to know is why? What makes this below-average game good in your minds? The story is a yawn, the combat is bad, the roleplaying possibilities are very limited. The only possible thing I can think of is that it offered some decent exploring, is that it?

Hehe.. gothic horro in D&D GM: You wander the myserious dark halls of the castle, wherecould the ancient evil lurk? As.. PALADIN: I detect evil!!! For the full rounds so I know where he is. GM: Ok, well theres somethig very evil in the kitchen cupboard CLERIC: I turn undead!! WIZARD: No wait Il casta a delayed blast fireball doing 15d6 damage!! PALADIN: But I wanna smite him! WIZARD: My fireball pwns your smite, dude. CLERIC: But I still get to turn undead, right? WIZARD: Can you buff me instead or something? GM: Oh, shut up.. the ceiling caves in and you all die. PALADIN: Oh.. CLERIC: Are you sure we all die? GM: Quite sure. WIZARD: But.. do we die horribly or just in a casual way, sort of? GM: Well, I guess that depends on your definition of horrible death. CLERIC: Being burnt to cinders wold be a lot worse, being crushed by several tons of rock is quite quick and painless Id say. WIZARD: What if youre claustrophobic? CLERIC: Yeah, but I mean.. even if you were, you wouldnt have time to get claustrophobic before youwere crushed. PALADIN: Maybe we're just a bit crushed and then we die slowly of asphyxiation? WIZARD: Oh, thats nasty. CLERIC: Nah, being nibbled to death by rats while youre caught in a vice-like grip by the rocks would be worse. PALADIN: Thatd be ok though, a rat wouldnt be able to score a hit on me with my AC even if I dot get to count my dex bonus WIZARD: So youd just die really slowly of starvation instead? PALADIN: Nah, Ive got a ring of sustenance. CLERIC: So youd be stuck under a heap of rubble until you die of old age? PALADIN: Someone could rescue me. GM: No one will rescue you. PALADIN: Why not?! GM: Because this campaign is over, I quit. PALADIN: Drats. WIZARD: You could write a fanfic where you get saved. PALADIN: Yeah! Dude, sweet idea. CLERIC: Would we get saved too?

I think the 7950GX2 might be overkill... so does anyone have a clue who makes really quiet 7900GTX cards? The noise from my old Asus 6800u was unbearable which is why I fitted it with a zalman cooler.. which sadlt resulted in the warranty goin down the tube but still.. point: I need a quiet card, tips? Next time I wont fiddle with the card so Ill have that sweet warranty when it explodes in my face " -

Problem is that the Uni is on an Island and the only way home is by flying. So either I send it, or I check it in as luggage and let the throwers at the airports have a go at it. -
Im at my parents for the summer and so I shipped my stuff up from Uni. To my horror I found that my stationary computer gave a "no graphics card present" beep when I booted up. I checked all the wires and that it was firm in place Then I saw that my computer had obviously been handled very hard since two of my HDD's had come loose. I switched cards with my dads comp, his card works in mine, my card works in neither computer and since I mounted a Zalman cooler on the card the warranty is void... and since I didnt have "FRAGILE" stickers on the package, Im not going to get anything from the movers either :'( AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRGH!!!!!!! edit: My immediate plan is to blow a ****load of cash on a 7950GX2 now and then try to sel that when the Geforce 8000 series are released in november/december. Sounds good?

(mkreku is one of the 3 people outside of Germany who actually liked Gothic 2, so I would recommend you take his praise with a huge grain of salt. Most people find it extremely bland and unoriginal with a very frustrating control system) I dont quite fully grasp what you are trying to say with this post, Maevar, so if Im repying to something you didnt intend to say then feel free to correct me. RPG's are all about the freedom to play the game like you want to. You have to be able to create your own main character andyou have to be able to solve problems the way you see fit. This means that the game needs to be very open( or generic as youd say) to allow the player freedom. The downside is that you cant tie the main character to the world and the story as well as if you have a ready-made hero with a background of his own. F.ex you cant have a major plot hook involving the PCs cousin George if the player can choose from 8 races where half hatch from eggs and dont even have cousins. If you want strong stories and dont mind playing pre-made characters Id recommend adventure games rather than CRPGs And for point two: Tilebased graphics is repetitive and boring. However, the way it looks implemented into NWN2 is far superior to what we have in NWN where every module looks prety much the same. But tilebased graphics are essential for the NWN concept of having a game where creating your own adventures in the toolset is half the point. If you had to build each level from scratch, it would be so complicated and time-consuming that 95% of the people involved in NWN modmaking couldnt do it. Then again, even in NWN you can make your own custom tiles and models, so the possibilities are there.

I dont think itll make much sense if you dont have enough WIS to get to know the backstory. Youre supposed to have atleast WIS 25 I think in the end to the full monty
