Exactly. If OpenGL was superior to DirectX, OpenGL would be used. Kind of like how OpenGL (and Glide) were much more popular back in the day. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> But the main reason why DirectX has become the top dog, is because Microsoft will shed no expense or effort into making Windows and Xbox the only choice for gamers.

More Dreamfall. It just looks so bloody good I could crap myself, so much that this is one of the only 2 screenshots Ive thought about taking. And it uses HDR lighting + FSAA at the same time, but I suppose its the newer SM 3.0 HDR that doesnt work with antialiasing? -
Im more inclined to believe it was a "design choice" brought on by the technical limitations of having static pre-rendered cutscenes. You can change the PC model(to any model in the game) with the console in a flash, so they could easily have given the player several different visual choices.

And those pre-rendered scenes were the reason why you couldnt make your own character. With this, youd hope theyd give more options in regard to the look of the PC. Gothic 2 uses a much smaller map which is 100% hand-built Geometry whereas Oblivion generate hills and mountains with heightmaps. You cant have overhanging cliffs and so on with heightmaps since they only allow displacement along the Y axis.

Gothic 3 has most likely not even half the budget of Oblivion so I would be surprised if they managed to accomplish a graphics engine that advanced (and pretty)

From a consumer viewpoint; OpenGL is superior to D3D because it is not limited to only one platform, AND it can accomplish the same end result as the D3D that comes in Dx9. C# is generally fishy with its need for .NET and from what Ive heard, theres a tiny clause that noone bothers to read that gives MS a certain right to whatever you write in C# since its their language. Kind of how the average person might think Gif and Jpeg files are free to use, but are proprietary and patented formats that you may not use commercially without permission from the license/patent holder. (it may be a total rumour aswell, im not a programmer so I wouldnt really know)

So what you want is: -An MMO set in a medieval world without so much magic & elves -Two factions who make war against eachother -Skill-based, no stats etc. -Two or more prequel games that lets the player experience the setting from a single-player perspective Overall, it sounds reasonable. Except for skillbased combat, one of the reasons why MMO's are so popular is because a stat-based system lets everyone compete on the same terms. A 12 yearold with a grave physical disability could defeat a Korean Quakemaster. -

Character modeling is THE most sought-after job in graphics... with the exception of concept artist but few companies can afford to have them as fulltime employees working exclusively with art.

MOST licensed game suck because theyre really just part of the marketing for the real product. Now this game seems more like Starbreeze bent a real game to fit a franchise just to keep the publishers happy, since they're convinced even a crap brand name will sell more than an original IP (which is a misconception)

Isnt there a rule/tips in the rulebook that you should disregard spell components that cost less than 1000 gold? But on the whole, D&D 3.5 has the best and most fun magic system that Ive seen in PnP gaming... except for the fantasy port of my own "Kaftan's magnificient ruleset" ( which only require spell components for ritual spells )

And the most important thing with QA is to get a job with a smaller companys in-house QA team. That way youll both be treated like a human being and youll also have the chance of rising thorugh the ranks. You get a job doing QA at Electronic Arts or Sony and you are their prag for life.

From what Ive understood, Monks are not meant to be a class that can be multiclassed successfully but rather one that you follow all the way to lvl 20 and beyond. Sure, it does. The spells naturally come to them; but it's still the same spell that wizards learn so it still follows the same rules for that spell. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Does this mean that Demons etc. who cast spells as natural abilities also need to use spell components?

Whats its supposed to immitate is the High Dynamic Range of contrast between light and shadow that the human eye can percieve. Its the opposite of what you describe, HDR is meant to give both blinding light but also make it possible o see the details of objects in shadow next to that light. The function of HDRR is to increase the range of contrast between light and dark, which can be seen in my screenshot. This can be "emulated" by fiddling with the monitor settings. Your screenshots are an example of a strong source of HDR light with a bloom effect, which is more obvious example of what HDR can do yeah. And nothing I can emulate with my monitor uhm.. what am I argumenting about now again?

But that doesnt make any sense. If a sorcerer casts spells through an innate ability without ever having to look in spellbooks and stuff.. why would they still need to use spell components? I played a Sorc when we played a campaign of D&D3.5 at uni, just so I wouldnt have to concern mysel with all the fuss wizards do.

Now strong lightsources will be more difficult to accmplish by fiddling with my screen But as Ive understood it, the purpouse of HDR rendering is to increase and expand the contrast range in a rendered frame/image. Enabling light to be blinding bright while still keeping shadows dark with full details in the same shot.
