  1. My parrot wrote this poem A series of confused rhymes Hand around the twinkly pear, the grizzly bear and prepare. Theres somekind of ratbastard mutant scum in this diary of rum. Dogs ate the pope, and his cohorts aswell, he bid his adieu and gave his farewell. Another of them, after he was fed, he ended up dead. Chicken and watermelon and fresh baked bread, and they brought out the hatchet and cut off his head.
  2. Yes. 3D space is real and proven whereas 4D+ is something that may or may not be proven true in the future. Personally, I remain a sceptic until an empirical experiment indicates that dimensions inside our own can exist. There are many critics of String theory that are much more science-ish than little old me. Maybe Im one of those people who refused to believe the earth wasnt flat, maybe Im like the ones who realised that maybe you didnt drown in your own bodily fluids if you slept lying down. Who knows?
  3. A Hypercube can never be visualised in 3D space, in fact it can not be visualized in any space at all because it is a purely mathematical/theoretical geometrical shape. One thing that proves there is only 3 dimensions(+time) is this: A 2D square revolves around a point. A 3D Cube revolves around an axis(or a line) A 4D Hypercube revovles around a square. A 5D whatevercube revovles around a cube. Is there a single law of physics that would allow a shape to revolve around anything put a point or an axis? Except in theory. My point is that any 'dimensions' above 3D+time are purely theoretical and does thus not exist... except in 4D and beyond space..which is a theoretical place that doesnt exist either. Just to show you when math and reality parts. In mathematics its perfectly acceptable to place an apple on a table, remove 2 apples and be left with -1 apple. Now, could you do that in reality? "
  4. I didnt have the money to splash out on both Battlefield 2+Special forces because the price never dropped, but Im hoping to catch up with 2142. Its a slightly polished Bf2 engine but with new content, so the gameplay will be just as good as with Bf2 also DiCE are swedes and you must be nice to us swedes. so buy it.
  5. One interesting thing I found both on his forums and on Wikipedia So they ARE spatial dimensions? Neat. But how can a spatial dimension be curled up inside the space of the usual 3+1? Can it even be called a dimension if it doesnt cover the entire existance? Theyre already up in 26 dimensions? Gee, I guess the world will be ready for my 674362 dimensions quite soon.
  6. GOLD (its true though, evil psycho ex-girlfriends are the worst)
  7. JA2 is like X-Com or Fallout Tactics, innit?
  8. The funny thing is that while, this website claims there are only 10 dimensions as the 10th dimension is that in which all others can be imagined as a single point, 'M-theory' string theory clearly says and mathematicly proves there to be 11 You could just go ahead and say that there is an infinite number of dimensions. But all of it is IMO just mathematical masturbation. If your equations require 48 dimensions to add up, that is not proof that there exists 48 dimensions. There is also no definition of what a dimension really is. And isnt so, that every real "process" that can be measured, exists and can be described within the good old 3D+time? Some quantum mechanics experiments showed one particle to exist in two places at the same time, but that is probably because it moved too fast for the measuring equipment to register that movement. If we take the old hypercube thing, its based on (Line)^(Dimension Number) where lets say the line is 2cm long 2^0 is purely theoreticly mathematical for something that doesnt exist 2^1 is the same line, nothing happens 2^2 is a 2x2 square with no depth 2^3 is a cube where all sides consist of 2x2 squares 2^4 is a hypercube. its a 100% theoretical geometrical form that cannot be drawn or explained in any other way than through mathematics. it doesnt exist and cannot exist. You can go and write 2^47629289464392 and it makes perfect mathematical sense, but everything above 2^3 is purely theoretical. In fact 2^2 and 2^1 are also theoretical since everything in reality has length, width and depth. They can be illustrated however. Well, electricity was thought to be pretty useless at the time Faraday did his experiments and nowadays our whole lives depend on it. The same could be said about relativity and quantum physics as well. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Electricity is real, string theory is just a theory.
  9. Why are you named like a spambot, Mr. Dewaybe2678 ? ( BSG rulz )
  10. http://www.tenthdimension.com/flash2.php Rubbish! I say. 3 dimensional euclidian space is all there is (with a timeline as an added pseudo-dimension on the side of course)
  11. Only the ATI r520 series (x1000's) and newer support ShaderModel 3.0, while nVidia included support for it in their Geforce6 series and onward Random amazing fact: Hl2 actually uses ShaderModel 2.0 HDR
  12. Comming from Swede games like Mutant and Drakar&Demoner which dont even hint at using miniatures when you play PnP, Ive never actually played a single game where it was used. On occasion when things got confusing wed use a piece of paper and some never-used D12's to mark up a battle but nothing fancier than that and we didnt measure distances either when we did that I dont like using miniatures either, then the whole charm of pretend goes away and it feels like youre playing a boardgame. Ive understood that all you people that come from an D&D background more or less always use miniatures, if you so play GURPS or Call of Cthulhu, is that correct?
  13. If it isn't broke... XP does a fantastic job as gaming. So whats the issue? Show me a OS that, technically, is better for gaming? I fail to see one that currently exists v.s the bells XP and DX has. This is a bitter pill for open source zelots but this is where commercialware excels. The ability (read resources/motivation) to stay on the bleeding edge of technology and why windows, OS X and every other commercial product will always be several steps ahead of hobbiest or open source operations. IMO this (and the geek mentaility of linux devs) is why linux has always trailed windows on ease of use, apps and support and unless a large mindset shift happens always will. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I say "only choice", definently not "best choice". Many Linux distributions and in some cases MacOS are actually faster, more stable and handle system resources more efficiently than Windows. If you play Quake4 on a linux machine youll gain maybe 10% in FPS, and that game was made for Windows primarily. Microsoft doesnt want the kind of product where you go into a store and pick out their OS because its the best there is. What they want is for you to walk into the store and the only OS on the shelves will be Windows.
  14. Mothman is a conservative, right? That means his parents are likely loaded... or just very stupid.. but lets think positive, shall we?
  15. Do what I did and get both Having a laptop is great for those boring 3hour lectures that you have to attent but they never say **** worth knowing. The trick is to sit far in the back and have discreet earphones.
  16. Baked lights are fun to play with and it looks really good, You can do mostly anything with it.
  17. I took the time to make a doodle to show more clearly although maybe its the guys making the game that I should send this to.
  18. All you actually need to do is to open the scene in 3ds MAX, set a few lights then open the UV texture editor and use "render to texture" and it will make you a new texture file with the shadows and lights added to the texture You can even just go with the default lighting. It can be done in 2 minutes. With this technique, you dont need a separate lightmap to add on top of your basic texture. But that wont work if you use the same 512x512pixel PNG picture of a wood wall to texture all the wood walls, every object needs its own separate texture
  19. *coughs* Id like to read my latest piece: I HAVE A JEWISH GIRLFRIEND JUST SO I CAN TELL RACIST JOKES You never know where the politicly correct might lurk they leap from the shadows 'Hey, you racist jerk!" But thats when I lay down my hidden ace and leave them shamed in disgrace Could this guy be a racist, when his girlfriend is a jew? no this isnt right... 'Sir, I appologize to you' Thankyou, more to come later.
  20. Do the enemies "hit points" increase aswell or can you still take out a jerry with a single rifle shot on the hard setting? Im so used to FPS doing it like that, and I hate enemies that dont die when I hit them.
  21. C++ remains the most widespread programming language for games. C# is yet another attempt by microsoft to ensure that Windows remains as top dog among operating systems. Its a language proprietary to Microsoft which is completely adapted to function solely under windows because it requires .NET to work. In its basic form it also runs within a virtual machine like JAVA does, and thus its much slower that C++ ..but some of my programmer friends like it because it offers many shortcuts and there are ways to simulate .NET under Linux or MacOS aswellas as a way to compile C# directly to machine code without running it in a virtual machine.
  22. I lost all interest when I discovered that I could just run blindly into machinegun fire and still kill every jerry in the house. Now Red Orchestra.. that's the best WW2 shooter Ive played
  23. I dont like it how all the studios are hiring now, I want them to start hiring in 2008 when I graduate "
  24. I did play it to the end, I didnt beat the final boss though. Youll die on the spot if you try to fight an Orc at lower levels no matter how good your player skillz are because you wont damage it much but itll take you out in two strikes. Doing the few non-violent quests available is not nearly enough to level up enough. So you have to go out into the wild and kill everything you see in order to level up... flies, weird lizards, animals... the monsters respawn in a tougher-to-beat form after you complete every chapter so you can go out and grind again.
  25. Ive actually only played the second, but it is my god-granted right as a human being to declare judgement even upon that which I have never seen, touched, talked to or played with. But lets get to it: Boring, very typical and predictable story Being stuck with a premade character for no apparent reason. He doesnt have a backstory, not even a name. He's just some guy with a ponytail. Very awkward combat controls that required you to be lvl12+ to even be able to get your character to do what you want him to do. The whole single-player MMORPG feeling Being forced to go out and grind random critters for hours and hours to get level enough to be able to progress the thin story. Random gridning and looting should be optional in a single-player game, not mandatory. (good CRPG's handle this by giving enough exp during the main story with optional sidequests and hacking for people who want more power) No deeper interaction with NPC's ..and the list goes on and on. The graphics were pretty though.
