Hypothesis: People who like the Gothic games are either weird and/or German.

The thing is hat you dont get to play YOUR character in Gothic. You get to play "Nameless- the Bland german hero". Sure, you have some choices regarding what you want to do with Nameless, but he will still be Nameless- the bland german hero. Being able to choose between 4 different appearances and comming up with a name which will get scripted into some dialgue might not seem like that much, but it makes a WORLD of differance. And also, I dont like Nameless. I think he looked like a jerk and sounded like an idiot.

I think the idea is that they buy imported PS3's to be able to play all the creepy hentai games that arent released outside Japan.

One of my major beefs with the Gothic games is that if youre forced to play a pre-made character, why the hell couldnt theyve made him a bit interesting? Now you just get to play a nameless clean slate which looks like a finnish powermetal fan.

The console fans around here are all going to buy imported so I doubt its going to make a differance.

You dont actually get a disc with the toolset on, those of us who have ordered the pre-release will get some sort of license key that will enable us to download it from ATARi when its available. Which, with the beta test not being done yet, will probably be something like 1-2weeks before NWN2 is released.

I just saw that my retailer ( webhallen.se ) has the C.E pre-orders booked full already. The last time that happened was when the Euro release of World of Warcraft was comming. So I guess things are looking damn good for OE and ATARi

There are only two or three channels that are broadcast in HDTV here as far as I know.

ID rather get a smaller regular or plasma television due to the problems that the native resolution of LCD screens bring. If you get swede digital TV (visasat or Canal+) they have a resolution of around 640x480, which will look very blurry on a 1900x1080 LCD screen.

You'd be hard pressed to find a game that promises the player's choices have more impact than G3. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> G3 will have a story? No, but seriously, what have the devs promised?

The problem is there is no interface there, no animated characters, nothing. So the bad screenshots are probably more truthful to how the finished game will look. This screenshot is probably a loose rendering.

The developers of the Gothic series have stated repeatedly that the Gothic series are not CRPG's, but action-adventure games, and that Gothic 3 will be even less of an RPG than the previous two. Without trying to start the whole "what exactly makes a real RPG" debate again; a pureblood/hardcore CRPG is generally a game where you control a party of characters through an adventure where you actions and choices have a noticeable effect on the outcome of the story. There are also traditions regarding combat; that it cant be twitch-controlled etc. A simpler way of putting it is that a hardcore CRPG tries to emulate the experience of playing a table-top RPG.

Its not a surprise that the actual ingame graphics looks bad. Its one of those things where the cheating is heavy; from taking screenshots of models that are too highpoly to ever be rendered in realtime, to actually staging a scene in MAX and rendering it with Mental Ray Haha, right about when hell freezes over But the two cant really be compared since G3 will have more in common with an action game like "Prince of Persia" than a pureblood CRPG.

The Asus 6800 cooler was rubbish yes. But that was ages ago, while the new ATI cards sound like blowdriers

Nvidia coolers(like the one on the 7900's) are quiet like an aftermarket Zalman.

GPU's cant handle as much as a CPU(which can be safely clocked by 10% without extra cooling) my 7900GTX comes factory overclocked at 670 where the norm is 650, very small differance. But around 5% should be safe.
