  1. Which is at the end of august, if I got that right from the linked KS announcement... so 2 months early, huh? I didn't expect them to be delivered until PoE was released, so thats even earlier for me By the way, I have been stalking Wasteland 1 on GoG for some time now but I am always put off by the graphics (that game is even older than me...) is it recommended to play it beforehand for the setting or can I skip it? I really can't bring myself to play this.

  4. I haven't seen the film but just read a summary about it. I neither consider myself a pro- nor an anti-mancer, but my spontaneous response to what I just read is a genuine 'WTF'? EDIT: It also somehow reminds me of the movie The Beast with a Million Backs from futurama.

  7. Overall, nice update, thanks for the information and the humor! As for companions, I just want them to have common sense most and foremost. They should be as rational as not to invoke a facepalm on my side with regards to their plans and the information available to them in order to be likeable for me. This is also the reason why I disliked some of the companions in the NWN2 OC - not everybody needs to be a rational person, but they should have enough common sense to not get carried away too much. Maybe you should apply to become his apprentice as a puncrafter? (BTW, I actually like most of your puns )

  11. Well, seriously, karkarov has a point. This is by far not a civil discussion and I know forums where people get banned for this kind of behaviour. I'm indifferent on the UI, but it would propably be for the best to calm a little down sometimes...
  12. I somehow forgot that the initial goal for release was april 2014 and thought that I couldn't play the game until fall 2014 and probably additional polishing time. Now that I read the article, my waiting time has decreased by about 6 months. Best day ever.
  13. Uh not really. There is already much discussion in the "hit miss or glance" thread in the mechanics forum about what value a fighter is and so on. Sawyer himself made it pretty clear that the Fighter was the "Tank" and other classes could take hits sure but none of them could do what the fighter does in the "tank" regard. He even specifically stated that barbarians were suited for aoe dps and had little tanking ability at all and said the paladin was not well suited to it either. So basically if you want a full on "tank" in your party you are bringing a fighter. I think that is a bit exaggerated. To quote: However, this is what he responded to the complain that paladins are not offensive characters: I think the same applies to the Fighter: Fighters may be the top tier tank, but that doesn't mean that all other characters are easily falling down to the enemy just because they are worse tanks than top tier. He even states in an example that he could have used the paladin in order to shield his mage because his fighter was distracted, so playing paladins as tanks is certainly viable and the same goes probably for the monk. Just don't expect any miracles from them since they don't have the special abilities the fighter has for tanking, but thats a given.
  14. Sorry to dissappoint, but its certainly not the druid and probably wasn't at your time of writing. The bar just seems so high because percentages are broken down separately within the two pools. The classes with most votes are rogue and wizard at the moment, if you can call ~30 votes statistically significant at all. That's not to say that an update on the druid wouldn't be interesting (although I dislike the concept and would never play one).
  15. Yeah, I agree with you - transparency is most of the time the better way to go. Now that you mention it, the system of fire emblem probably emphasizes the misconceptions regarding probability. Anyway, I was just mentioning the system to say that you have a point in the misconceptions people have, as you can effectively only cater to these expectations by lying about the probabilities. So what I really wanted to say is that given the goal of transparent numerical feedback, I think you're on the right track with your system.
  16. There is always this psychological problem about expectation towards randomness. I really like the way the fire emblem games handled this by lying to the player: If the game told you that you had a chance of p% to hit, then the game would actually roll two dice und take their mean against p% in order to normalize the probability, which is a lot closer to the actual expectation people have. However, if you want a transparent game you have little choice to deal with this perception, so I really like the solution for the hit system you came up with josh.

  18. Hey Josh, cool thread! Have you considered how your work is going to end up during translation into the other supported languages? It'd be a pity if you put a lot of work into it and then it will be lost in translation. True. Vailian probably runs the biggest risk of this, especially since it's a cased language (most contemporary Romance languages are not). I already had a native Italian speaker call me out on the Darcozzi Paladini (an ancient order of palace guards from the Grand Empire of Vailia). "Hey buddy, who named that, some backwater farmer?!" Regarding the newest update, I'm not really sure what to do with the name of the 'Wicht' monster either as a german native speaker. The german translation can be seen here, it means quite literary little fellow. I understand that its cool to use words from different languages in order to make things feel more exotic, and thats fine in the english version. However, I feel like its often a problem if you play the translated game in the corresponding language, as the translators usually just stick with the names that already are in the native language. Another german word that serves as a good example for this is "Zweihänder", which in some games gets used for a special two-handed sword, while its just the translation of 'two-handed sword'.

  20. Although the screenshot looks really good, I'm a bit let down by the frequency of the updates lately. Is it going to stay at a 2 weeks cycle now? I really don't want to be negative here, but I feel like the art updates were also meatier during the more frequent time, that is, when we had weekly updates. For example, there was more text describing the artistic process when we were shown some new eye-candy. I know we're not entitled to those updates so I'm still glad we have them, but it'd be nice to know if this is supposed to stay biweekly short updates now or if this is only a temporary thing. This is going to be a regular occurrence. The team is shifting close to 100% of their efforts into creating the content for the game, so we have to space the updates out a bit more. Thanks for the information, I appreciate that. Sorry if I sounded too negative, but seeing how awesome the game is going to be, I find it hard to deal with the excitement for new information at times. Now that I know the updates are longer apart I can adjust my expectations accordingly, so thanks again for the information. You're doing an awesome job so far, so keep going

  24. I didn't know about the mythic GM emulator until I read your post. Now that I looked up what it is, I think this is the best thing ever, thank you very much for hinting at its existence! On the topic of filler combat serving as a means to make the gameplay longer: I appreciate having a longer game, as I find it harder and harder as time goes on to find new games I actually like to play. Therefore I'm really wondering how you can find so much games you enjoy that you can be so "picky" about them (as in laying them down about after 2 hours not because they are bad but because there is so much other stuff). You don't seem to have low standards so I'd really appreciate it if you could elaborate a bit more about where you get your games from and what kind of games you like. Of course, if you don't want to make that public, you can always PM me about that as well. Everything else I think about this topic has already been said by other persons.
