  1. Blargh, I didn't mean it like that! I know that Obsidian can do amazing characters, and pretty much every party member in all their games (Except arcanum, which was kinda lackluster in that regard) was awesome in their own ways. Hell, Mask of the Betrayer didn't have a single comic character, and it was still amazing. Its just that, I love the comic characters. And I love, as someone else so helpfully phrased it, "bro's", and I want to see an other character like Morte and Minsc who are able to fill both catagories, and maybe more. Capiche? Edit: Oh, and SIE and Steven Heck from Alpha Protocol. Two other types of characters I was talking about. Both, stupidly fun. Yeah but if I don't give you a hard time about it, who will?
  2. Becase he keeps being called a fish when clearly he is not a fish.
  3. Yeah I used to play the games -that allowed me to do so- that way too. A lot of my ideas come down to me thinking "what would I have liked to be an option to stop me from playing degeneratively in the first place?" Obviously, everyone has different ways to gaming the system
  4. Interesting...obviously didn't think about it this way. Forced random encounters for all! You get a random encounter! You get a random encounter! YOU get a random encounter! Everyone gets a random encounter! YAY. Seriously, though, good point.
  5. Yeah I don't know armor very well - but it didn't look like "leather armor" that we're used to, anyway.
  6. You're saying....you're saying I'm not a developer of games?!?! How DARE YOU SIR. I don't think it's railroading, but eh... I thought this might be an interesting idea. I also never understood what the point of taverns were in BG2. I could rest anywhere I liked and never really saw much point in paying for a tavern. It seemed like it was broken somehow. The not being able to rest anywhere in the city, and it being a little more dangerous to rest outside of the city, makes an inn a prime spot for resting and paying to rest there. Otherwise, just don't implement inns. Nobody will use them. I just think that some of these things were broken in BG2 and could be tweaked. I actually liked that BG1 had lots of random encounters ifyou rest outside.
  7. I just hope the devs have seen this thread.... http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/61425-let-us-see-the-whole-area-please/
  8. We actually had a meeting about this yesterday. PE's weapons will be close to historical weapons in proportions with slight exaggeration to help distinguish them. E.g. a "proper" cut and thrust sword blade will be toward the thicker side to distinguish it from a rapier. War hammers will be similar to historical war hammers though their heads might be enlarged just a bit to help you see what the heck they are. We will not have melon-sized mace heads. YAY FOR HISTORICAL FICTION WOOOOOOO :aiee: Seriously, I keep loving the thoughts that come out of your mind. It's freaking crazy.
  9. OHH THATS NICE. MAKE THE AUMAUA NOSE LIKE THAT. I just peed myself from excitement. :aiee:
  10. ^With all that was said, I don't think that Sawyer has said specifically anywhere that he would move away from this. These things should give flavor, not be a win/lose scenario. When you have the extra information, it gave you advantages, it shouldn't "win" the scenario for you. I think we can agree that with or without a skill check this would be better.
  11. I don't think it's strictly 6. I think there will be times where you're 6+1 or something when you pick up certain NPCs for a short time... I'm not sure though. I tought I read that somewhere.
  12. I like the XCOM idea. Running just makes things better. Arcanum had run toggles but if it's a menu toggle, it'll always be on anyway. Besides, I'm going to find the boots of haste before anything else just so I don't have to wait for 15 mins everytime my party wants to cross the map. What do you mean there aren't any boots of haste in P:E?!?!
  13. Neck romance? I can dig it. But why stick only with the neck? Just posting in the fourth of many threads about this "glorious" topic. Can't believe people are still talking about this :)
  14. It was a good system, but it wasn't PnP so we can't say it's Classical RPG. It's one way of doing speech. It's not the only way. We're too stuck in one mindset that we're not willing to look at other possibilities and see how they play out. There may be better ways of doing speech. I hope that OEI iterates on the design idea and comes up with something that's intuitive. Edit: As for FONV, I haven't played that game, but from the Let's Plays that I saw, it was always so obvious which dialogue choice you should pick and everything else was just "filler" for the hard-core RPGers/LARPers. Edit 2: One place where I really liked the way this was implemented was in Arcanum, specifically in two places. One of them was with the dwarf king and learning about the philosophy of dwarves. The dialogue became something that allowed you to learn about the details of dwarven philosophy and later on you were able to utilize that information, if you learned it, to your benefit. Arcanum did it in several places and they felt more alive. (Obviously I can't remember the second palce). Instead of a science check, I'd like to learn that "science" in-game from another NPC and then if I have learned it, to utilize that knowledge later on. Not just have a "dice-roll" telling me I know "science." I'm a science (biology/chemistry) student. That doesn't mean I know physics, it also doesn't mean all biologists know all of biology. Now I'm rambling...
  15. This is just basically insulting Chris Avellone and saying that he doesn't have enough creative talent to do one better than Minsc. That's shameful... I'm kind of tired of the "idiot with hamster" trope anyway...Minsc made this cliche.
  16. You only have 10 options per question. The polling option is designed that way, I had to work around it. Otherwise, yes it would be 1 poll not 2.
  17. I've never liked this whole idea that speech is a skill and you should pick the best answer to win the scenario. That's what these skill checks ultimately do. Usually, the skill check answer doesn't really fit the character I'm playing anyway. In PnP you'd first make your dialogue line, and then the DM would ask for a skill check. It didn't work the other way around. I'm glad Sawyer is "getting rid of it" and rethinking these games for the PC and not rehashing straight from PnP. Edit in regards to stamina/resting, I have some ideas that I wrote up in a new thread for those interested. http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/62931-an-idea-regarding-restingstaminahealth/
  18. Good point, perhaps you can still be random encountered in a city, but the chances are lower (perhaps 20-30%). There are usually city guards protecting the streets afterall. I guess my point is that I don't want "railroading" type mechanics in this sort of game. You should be allowed to do whatever you wish. If you want to rest anywhere, then you can. But there are risks to this and it becomes a legitimate reason why you shouldn't rest. Not just "don't do it because I said so." This should be true with most things in the game. You should be able to do many things, the question is whether the risks are worth the rewards of doing any certain act.
  19. And thus it makes it your decision - and I would think most people would like that. It's a fuzzy scenario and it allows for actual decision making. It allows players more flexibility for those who wish it, and also doesn't lock certain mechanics (resting anywhere) for unknown reasons. As for quieting the masses, I never really care much for that anyway. Different people are different. You can't please everyone. However, it does make any certain action more deliberate and thus more fun, in my opinion.
  20. I do not envy Avellone's job when it comes to interviewing... Some of these people have obviously done no research on the topic before doing these interviews... He's repeating himself. I'm surprised he hasn't torn his hair out by now having to repeat the same answers over and over and over and over and over
  21. Grok crosh menny head toodey. Grok put pees of brain in jernol to remembuh gloreeus dai. I'd rather it be specific to intelligence.
