  1. Frozen Synapse. It's a turn-based tactics game, except it's also real-time. Okay, so what you actually do, is that you pick your action, or downright program the actions of your pseudo-SWAT team for the next 5 seconds at a time. It's kind of like in chess, you are supposed to plan 4 of your next moves, then you and your opponent move your units at once when action phase comes. And this is not like in the new XCOM game where you pretty much have 1 move and 1 action per character per turn. No, you can go as complex as you like, as long as it fits the 5-second time frame
  2. Clearly your insightful comment deserves the most eloquent, most constructive, the longest and most heavily edited of replies, nothing less can possibly stand on the level of your comment. Your ability to deconstruct and analyze text is simply peerless. Thus I present to you this:
  3. Yeah, there is no level scaling (to that degree) in Morrowind. Blighted Rats do spawn in place of regular in some areas, but those are "level 8 rats" and you'll never encounter anything tougher than that. Some other monsters have a "single buffed up version" sort of level-scaling, like with skeletons and ghosts, but they only appear pretty much once you've outleveled the areas they appear in. A rat is a rat is a rat. Will always stay squishy, low damage, and annoyingly disease-filled at worst
  4. If they don't walk like Bambie on ice, then you're not pressing the moe-ness hard enough!
  5. I would not say that the story is missable because the writing is bad (though you could say that for the later games. The problem with people not remembering Morrowind's story, is that much of the lore and backstory is optional, way different from how it is force-fed to you these days. When you talk about your quests, some plot-related words might be highlighted, but you'll never hear an explanation behind them without actually asking. There are even numerous main quests where you're supposed to find information, and at the end, you'll be given it in a form of a scroll or book. I made a point to read every quest-related book I found and ask everyone's opinions on every subject, so my experience was much richer for it. The amount of effort put into your prophecy puts every other RPG prophecy to shame. Heck, I once picked up a random book and what was it about? Several page rebuttal for classifying destruction magic as part of conjuration school of magic! While not story-related, that was an amazing read and fleshed out the magical aspect of Elder Scrolls I specifically love how Vivec, when met for the first time, says that the Tribunal is not responsible for death of Nerevar no matter what the Dissident Priests or Dagoth Ur wants to say, and that his viewpoint on the death is in one of the 4 scrolls in his temple. What I love about this? He is completely lying to your face, because he probably expects that you don't have the patience to read all those veryveryvery long scrolls! I did read them! His memoires conveniently skip Nerevar's death, and the only viewpoint you get is one of Nerevar's non-Tribunal friends, and he says it was a 100% premeditated assassination, which explains why Asura turned their Dunmer skins dark That was a really nice subversion of The Chosen One trope.
  6. By the way, not sure you guys have noticed, but Storm of Zehir is becoming QUITE a rarity. MotB and NWN2 are on their way to becoming such too, so I should hurry my a** up and get them eventually
  7. Greetings everyone, what is going on in the game industry today?
  8. The fight is kind of interesting, because during it, my Thief/Fighter became the most efficient character in the team, which hasn't really happened in any other fight in entire IWD. Also, that Thief/Fighter was my "main character", if he can be called that, so it felt really good to have him obliterate the boss with numerous backstabs Also, that same Thief/Fighter died permanently in the last quarter of the Hearts of Winter bossfight. I imagine in my head that they held a grand funeral session for him to honor his heroics. I couldn't have wished for a more fitting death
  9. Then you'll disagree even more strongly with me, because I say, barring a few genuinely sad scenes, BG&E's story is horribly paced and lazily written with the subtlety of a punch to the face. Jak 2's story had a ton of same elements as BG&E, but did most of them better. With the writer of both Legacy of Kain series (and later on Uncharted), it's no wonder Edit: Now, I'm not trying to say "stop liking what I don't like", of course, I'm merely doing some Z-grade discussion baiting
  10. New game - $50/$60Silicon Knights game in bargain bin - less than $10 Court ruling - priceless
  11. Then you'd be surprised just how many people are called No One.
  12. Boy, that Sapkowski plougher seems like he'd give ten lashes to each developer and hang every third one. Also, I almost want to call this next bit troll logic, however what he says, might be true in Poland I guess the notorious TV show didn't hurt his credibility any? And because of Sapkowski not taking any part in the writing, (I bet CDProjekt begged him to help, they now have Pondsmith on board with Cyberpunk 2077) he can't really get much of the credit. He might have created the world, but it's CDProjekt RED that breathed new life into it and made it one of the best RPGs of this console generation
  13. Just finished Thief Gold and it's a damn good game. It was impressive then and it's rather impressive today Why? Level design. The art of level design without relying on scripted sequences is rather lost on modern games. If it were not, then the final levels of both Thief and Deus Ex wouldn't have surprised me as much as they did.
  14. The multiplayer also feels good, though my MP-only Outlander feels rather weak in his kiting/crowd-control build. Only "feels" though, because even though my friend's Engineer is tankier and deals far more damage, I can still solo bosses that kill him, given that they don't respawn too many ranged enemies. If you plan on doing MP, do so with Veteran or Elite (in case you're not afraid of dying multiple times, as many mini-bosses in Act 1 kill in 2 hits), Normal is far too easy with multiple people playing.
  15. Yes, it really is better than Torchlight 1 in every way. Probably my biggest gripe (though still a nitpick) is overlap between some of the skills. It's a problem that's been with the diablo-clone genre since its birth, probably. Like, why would I pick Frost Wave at level 28 when I've had Icy Blast and Hailstorm part of my "frost mage" build since level 7? It's just another damage spell, and with the skill power scaling, I've already got all frost damage covered. Thanks but no thanks, maybe I'll pick it up on a mage of another element to bypass annoying resistances without having to invest a horrible amount of points
  16. Well, maybe Penumbra (Black Plague to be specific) but that series was also made by Frictional Games so it probably doesn't count
  17. But with that awesome button taking so much space on the average keyboard, where will we put the cover mechanic and sprint keys?
  18. Hopefully you don't use face-cam or you'll get a bit of hate from LP viewers
  19. Or maybe buy storm atronach scrolls if available?
  20. Yeah. Managed to complete it after an hour and got level 80 exotic gear (suh-weet!) and towards the end, it felt weird just how much of that platforming section snuck into my muscle memory.
  21. Children, remember never to touch suspicious barrels. Who knows what kind of slimey rape might follow
  22. Playing the Gold version of Thief has saved my *** from reloading the entire level. They made a certain bridge lever entirely optional in Lost City level, and I crossed the gap by using a speed potion. I would have been stuck there if Gold version hadn't provided me an alternate route back
  23. In crafting stations, as you use them, you have 4 tabs: 1) Discovery 2) Production 3) Bank 4) Collectibles (the order might be different but that's irrelevant) It's pretty obvious, really
  24. Mostly in cities, with a few exceptions here and there in smaller non-instanced towns. You can access your bank from crafting stations too. The collectibles go to your bank, yes. There in the second tab you'll see all your collectibles categorized
  25. The what of the series?
