I got mine today. I ordered the painted figures, since I don't have much time to do minis painting myself these days. I wasn't pleased with the quality. On the plus side, the colors are very close to the official artwork, and the poses aren't any worse than your average D&D pre-paint. At a distance, they don't look half bad. But the lack of detail is a killer. The paint is thickly applied and obscures what few details there are on the figures, especially on the faces, where it looks like clown make-up, especially on Eder. There's no shading. And yeah, I'm another one who got a badly bent sword on Eder's figure. I definitely won't be putting together any dioramas with this lot. I'm not upset, but it is a disappointment.

I expect that's why he's not an option, to play against expectations. I hope Aloth turns out to be a romance option for male Watchers. I have such a hard time imagining Aloth as romantic in any way that I am intensely curious to see what the writers dreamed up for him, but I also want to keep my Watcher from the first game. XD

Ditto. I just came here to ask about that. I think someone forgot a step when creating the survey.

Baby on Board
Heartsib replied to ThatUndeadLegacy's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
I hope it's not the heartwracking guilt of raising her for five years just to have her crushed under the feet of a giant statue. -
Gosh this got difficult. I pretty much go through these games on story mode, so the personalities matter more to me than the class builds. My Watcher (pure Ranger), of course. Aloth - Best buds with my Watcher at the end of POE1, so he's with the party by default. Pallegina - My second favorite companion, but I always felt she was a little underdeveloped. Time to remedy that! Sarafen - He seems like he has a really interesting backstory, and I want to hear it. Maia - She just seems awesome. If she's not, I'll swap her out for Eder.

Update #106: New Obsidian Game Announced!
Heartsib replied to BAdler's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Announcements & News
Tyranny definitely sounds interesting with some real potential to go dark places as a PC. The premise reminds me a little of the Black Company novels, and I can't say that's a bad association. -
Pillars of Eternity - Short Stories
Heartsib replied to Messier-31's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Just read Until He Start Screaming. Ouch. Poor Aloth...I'm at the crossroads of admiring him, feeling bad for him, and wanting to shake him until he goes cross-eyed all at the same time. -
Based on the Twitch spotlight and the latest LoER update, it looks like: - folks who pledged for the expansion will be getting both parts. - the expansion will scale up to a more challenging level if the player requests it at the start of play - the expansion is an add-on that can be integrated during or after a playthrough of the base game - your old companions will be available for the playthrough, along with at least two new ones, a rogue construct and a monk

Locked out of Defiance Bay?
Heartsib replied to Heartsib's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Oh, cool. Thanks! -
So my Watcher attended the Animancy Hearings, there were riots, etc. but now I can't seem to get back into Defiance Bay via the main bridge. Yet I'm still getting side-quests later down the line that point me back there and aren't showing up as automatically failed. Is there an alternate way in or am I just SOL?

Companions - who wrote what?
Heartsib replied to Eric Fenstermaker's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Haha! Aloth and Sagani were my favorites, so it makes sense they were written by the same person. Props to Carrie Patel. -

This. I was ready to stuff that jerk's flaming staff up his butt sideways early in. -
"Wake up" (companion spoiler)

Yeah, Aloth has one too. -
I liked being able to customize my own party in IWD. They didn't have much personality, of course (aside from their portraits and a few dialogue options tied to stats like INT and CHA, iirc), but I enjoyed both the freedom to explore various builds and the NPC reactions to various party make-ups. Nothing like marching an all-drow party through town and having the locals practically crap themselves. For me, it's just an option that adds replay value. I'm definitely going to explore adventures with the provided companions on my first (and possibly second) playthroughs, but I'm almost certainly going to give a custom party a run-through at some point.

I love this take! Making the different types of undead different points on one long, downward progression is really a clever twist on a familiar concept. Nice work. As per usual, every update makes me more and more impatient to get my hands on the finished product.
