  1. My point exactly. What I'm saying is that we need "more detailed" (2x DPI versions) for high DPI monitors. Did you view the site at a high DPI device? If you do, I think you will understand the issue. On a standard monitor, all 3 examples will look the same. On a high DPI device, you will see that they are all rendered quite differently, with the 3rd image looking far better. You'll see that anything not rendered at high-dpi resolution will either appear blurry, because of upscaling, or tiny, when rendered at its actual resolution. The answer is DPI scaling, a second set of assets, rendered to "have more detail", to put it in your words . Again, this is only relevant if you understand the issue that high DPI screens bring to the market for all forms of bitmap graphics. You are wrong, in your example the two on the left will be the same, the only way they get worse on a high ppi screen is if there's an error with the scaler. The 2nd from the left thing doesn't happen unless it's an unfair comparison, all things being equal a 120 ppi and a 220 ppi screen will display the same image almost the same. The two on the right are correct, not arguing with them.
  2. If I take my ipod, put the image into safari, scale the image so it's the size it is on my 1080p monitor, they don't look different side by side. I mean, same viewing distance, same physical size, same brightness.
  3. OK, I've figured it out, MaximKat is right, it doesn't matter that you set css to 400px, safari doesn't comply with that, you're not comparing like with like. Of course a higher dpi asset is going to look nicer on a high dpi screen, you're not comparing upscaled on high dpi screen vs upscaled on normal screen.
  4. An Hour glass has two "heads" the sand flows from one to the other when it's standing up, as opposed to on it's side. What doesn't make sense about that? It was said to be "standing still" which doesn't mean standing up or on it's side for a start.
  5. I'm getting no difference with the scales images on a iPod Touch 4 with a retina display 960×640 px at 326 PPI.
  6. Since Saturday I've been thinking that $3.7m is where it'll end up.
  7. I don't like them, underground cities and tree top cities, definitely not for me. Underground warrens in VtM: Bloodlines was incredible.
  8. Are taverns closed on paypal though?
  9. My blu-ray player, tv, and pc monitor all upscale DVD content to 1080p and it looks no worse than playing the DVD on a SD display. The same with low res photos that they upscale, as each has SD card readers attached. I don't think it's simple as generating a second set of assets. It's like making higher res textures, you have to put more work into them because the low resolution textures would allow you to "hide" detail, so you could get away with texture artists spending less time and effort.
  10. I like MLP:FIM and 40K, I wonder if there's a crossover fanfic. As long as we don't get Bishop the emo, I'm fine with dark and edgy, I like the way the original Fallout handled it, with class and dignity, and gibs, cannabilism, pillaging.
  11. Prepare a demo then. I do not have a high dpi display, but perhaps we can get to the bottom of this. That article does not explain why this would happen, it doesn't actually say it will happen as far as I can tell. I found an article on a incredibly stupid Safari bug that effects downsampling when opening images in it (not webpages): Safari Downsamples Your Images, No HD. This of course would not effect most content on the iPad 3, or games on other platforms using high dpi. Also, it's very fixable in software, as it's a software mistake, not an issue with the display.
  12. That shouldn't happen, and if it does, it's not the game developers fault, it's whoever made the crappy hardware. I've viewed low dpi content on an iPad 3 and it doesn't look more blurry than a normal screen.
  13. $140 Collectors Edition + $20 International Shipping + $20 Expansion + $20 Expansion = $200
  14. They will for this Sunday, I can't imagine them not doing it. Also a number of stretch goals have been met, 3 more dungeon levels, stronghold.
  15. $80 tier +$20 for expansion, might go $110 +$20 for beta access. $110 and $165 aren't worth it for me, especially since I already have Wasteland 2, but it's pledging not buying so if I choose to up it, it won't be so much for the rewards.
  16. Other projects, and I can't see why this one wouldn't, allow you to add shipping through paypal at any time.
  17. No, because "I have two heads but one body. The more I stand still, the faster I run" doesn't make sense even when you know the answer.
  18. I think arrows should be unlimited in areas with trees, environmental gameplay.
  19. That sucks, I understand it if the extra "copy" is a gift to a friend, but if you want both "copies" for yourself.
  20. The thing that made me chuckle most in a game was really simple, just text: "A weapon truly for a madman, who else would fight a fire with an axe?".
  21. Co-op games get played, but including in a single player game, yeah that's incredibly inefficient use of resources and not worth it at all. If they do co-op, it should be an expansion, stand-alone, with a separate campaign. Everybody should play Portal 2 and Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light co-op, that's some of the best gameplay you'll ever find.
  22. I find that platforms with high DPI handle lower DPI content pretty well. Sure, you can take advantage of it if you want, but the percentage of people with Retina Macbooks or those Samsung high DPI laptops is quite low, even amongst gamers. Only a minority of web designers are going to be concerned about the iPad 3 hits they're getting, because low dpi sites work just fine for most purposes on the iPad 3. I do think it's a great idea for them to render all assets at as high a resolution and for as high a dpi as is reasonable, and then to scale the content down, because that could come in handy later on if they want to release an updated version. Crysis 2 shipped with shockingly bad textures for the PC, but they had better assets available. Of course this made the game larger, so it's not necessarily something everybody wants, it's a trade off. Making sure they keep all their sound assets in high quality lossless format would also be a good idea.
  23. I think if they made it 720p, scaled the assets and textures, they could get away with porting it to the OUYA. 1GB of RAM isn't a problem, the PS3 and Xbox 360 have 512MB. It's the 8GB of storage that would be the problem, perhaps if the OUYA allowed for the capacity to be increased. It would be cool if people could play Project Eternity on a $100 platform, but this version could also be available for low end computers running Linux, Android is a Linux distro after all. This could also provide incredible opportunities for total conversions and future development.
  24. Only applies to Steam version, obviously with the GOG DRM-free version there's nothing stopping you installing it on as many computers as you want. You could also have two Steam versions, although Steam allows you to install it on many computers, but with the $80 reward you could also play it on two computers at the same time.
  25. You are a small-minded fool. I play all manner of RPGs, never much cared for this particular cultural divide. And actually my favorite sound track of all time goes to an obscure under-appreciated JRPG called Nier. The soundtrack alone makes that game worth playing in my opinion. Some examples (more than I could embed, so I'll just do links): Ah heck, every track in this game is worth listening to. Just go check it out. One interesting thing about the Nier soundtrack is the heavy use of vocals, which is unusual in RPGs but they're in a very subdued and haunting style (in most tracks) so they still work as background music. I mean, the first one I linked to is the standard field music. But it works. The last link I posted is from a boss fight, so you have some idea what this style sounds like in combat. But it's the soft, quiet themes like Grandma and Kaine where this soundtrack really shines. So yeah, I like Nier's music. A lot. Never heard of it. Please make it stop, it hurts. Your taste is bad, you should feel bad. Apart from and .
