I doubt there's much demand from anywhere that's more costly than Europe, so I don't think it's to cover higher shipping costs. Also, why does the US get free shipping? Unless the shipping cost is included in the pledge tier cost, and the +$20 shipping fee is even worse than I first thought. It seems like some people are getting more incentive to donate than others, for little reason.

I'd like the $100 reward and the $25 beta access but I can't afford it with $20 shipping. What's with all these Kickstarters charging $20 for shipping anyway, are they filling the boxes with rocks? Two Kickstarters, one already received, had free shipping. It's not in line with usual shipping costs to my country either, I would normally be expecting to pay more like $10.

stick to your guns, devs

Prudes and idiots shouldn't be the only voice listened to, but it's hard for me to push the other case because I don't actually support the position "boob armour, please, please, please! gimme." because I prefer the updated version. Yet I know if these people are listened to on every decision the game will be a lot worse. -

On the project page, between Project Eternity and You're a backer, it's "by Obsidian Entertainment". -

I have seen, thank you. But exactly where they are exposed those questions from users? There's tabs at the top of the project: Home, Updates, Backers, and Comments. Comments is the main page for comments on the project. Each update in the Updates tab also has comments. Only logged in backers can post comments. -
Gender Prejudice
AwesomeOcelot replied to DeDaL's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Then that system doesn't really work at accurate representation because that's not how the real world works. It's as simple as that. When you create a character you can create people that are unusual, of course a system like that doesn't accurately represent averages. What would be the point of a system that conforms to averages? -
These type of squad RPGs are very much like RTS in the way they control, which cannot be effectively recreated with a gamepad. Just like in FPS, where with a gamepad you have to introduce auto aim and make enemies slower and easier, it's not just controls you have to port, you have to rebalance the game. The inventory system has to be completely redesigned, as has been seen in Bethesda games or Borderlands where they just lazily ported a terrible interface for inventory from the console version. Piracy doesn't effect PC sales to any great extent, people who pirate would not buy the game, if piracy stopped tomorrow in Poland, Russia, Brazil, and China there wouldn't be a change in sales. People pirate console games as well, and just because a platform is new doesn't mean they'll buy games, they'll just wait. Publishers are very much concerned with control more than piracy, look at their DRM methods, no single player DRM lasts more than a few weeks, it's more about not being able to play the game you bought the way you want, or controlling which service you have to use. Lots of people said the Wiimote was as good as a mouse, but it isn't very good at all, it's pretty terrible as a pointing device. The WiiU tablet could be a replacement for a mouse, tablets exist that can replace a mouse, but is the WiiU able to do this? I don't know, it seems to be mostly used for mini-games and other pointless stuff.

Gender Prejudice
AwesomeOcelot replied to DeDaL's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Those two aren't mutually exclusive. A system like SPECIAL doesn't take into account average curves. The only difference it would be taking account of is extremities, and as I said, if you look at something like weight lifting, all these people are 10 in this system, the top men are stronger but they're outliers that wouldn't be accounted for in a 1-10 system. I don't believe that. You can obviously cherry pick examples of all your claims but that wouldn't give an accurate picture of the time. -
Gender Prejudice
AwesomeOcelot replied to DeDaL's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
But no woman is as strong as the strongest of men. This should be reflected in the game. Not necessarily because the strongest of men might be such an outlier that it doesn't make much sense to account for such a rarity in a system like say SPECIAL where strength is a number 1-10. -

Oct. 02, 2012 on Project Eternity. Where they have written? No Italian? I'm really disappointed. Kickstarter, you can click on the creator link to view all Obsidian's comments, they've made a lot. -
Anecdotes aside, good question. The reason Steam sales aren't listed is because Valve won't release them. The top 100 chart in Japan goes back to 1994. Unless people in Japan were buying their games online for the whole of that time then they can't not be listed for the same reason. If you're suggesting Japanese game stores disclose their console sales but not their PC sales, unlike the rest of the world, I think you're going to have to provide a reason or evidence for this. That is FACT for most of the European Markets, they do not state ANY boxed sales, nor online sales! We do not have in Europe nothing like NPD in the US. As far as I know, the only real numbers from EU you get from UK, and (i do not know that for sure, but I would guess, you are getting numbers from Germany and France)... But I can yell around GIMME SUM EVDNCE KKTXBAI for your statement, that in Japan they are not selling PC games Online more than 20 years... You know, most of the world is technologicaly 10+ years behind... So where is your evidence for that? Well since online shopping started around the same time 17 years ago with the invention of SSL in Europe and North America, and it would take time for it to gain traction, I think common sense should tell you that doesn't make any sense. It's significantly harder to prove a negative, it's not like you can look for evidence of the non-existence of something, the burden should be on you to prove that it exists since it would be relatively simple if it did, and more importantly because it was your claim in the first place.

Gender Prejudice
AwesomeOcelot replied to DeDaL's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
It's a bit ridiculous that certain games set in more primitive societies don't even mention rape, but you also don't want to exploit rape like the Tomb Raider people (Crystal Dynamics) to make people feel they want to "protect" the protagonist, or that it's something more awful than murder or brutal injuring assault, there's a large area between pretending it doesn't exist and exploitation. Having gender prejudice be part of the world might be something useful to explore for Obsidian. are you seriously denying that men are stronger than women? for real? I'm a man, on average men are stronger than women, and I'm stronger than the average woman, but there's millions of women who are stronger than me. -

Races: What to expect
AwesomeOcelot replied to NOK222's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
To be fair to Bethesda, they are apparently racist against Scandinavians as well as Africans, because Nords also have negative traits, -10 Intelligence. I don't even think they're racist, I just think they're stupid. Yeah, it's probably a really bad idea to model fantasy races on pseudo-scientific racist categories of the 19th and 20th century. -

Hold your horses there, what was that about basic reading comprehension? You wrote they were pretty much exactly doing mob replacement. I asked you for some quotes after you said you heard that from Obsidian comments. You wrote it comes from the quote already posted, and that's untrue. Now you're just side stepping this with stuff that's not even relevant to my replies to you. -

AwesomeOcelot replied to Valorian's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Well that's problematic for me because your first sentence is untrue, I have trouble believing the rest of your post. -
All culture is imposed on people by people with power. This in-group out-group thinking you're trying to impose on this discussion, on the people here, is wrong. Han Chinese didn't choose this, they had as much control as a Tibetan. A homosexual didn't choose to be born in Iran, but neither did a religious idiot. Your questions are simplistic at best, and nonsensical at worst. You should reassess your outlook and meditate on cultural evolution and the roles people play, this isn't some grand conspiracy. The truth is the answer to your questions are everyone, and no one, depending on how you define your terms.

Then don't shout at people to "THINK", quote the relevant parts here so people have the information they need to form valid opinions. At least say how you know that's pretty much exactly what they're doing. -

But in Fallout 1/2 for example it was not even a choice between towns A, B and C, but basically between towns A, B, C, D, E, F, G and H. And that was possible without level-scaling involved in the process 96% of the time. And it worked perfectly! Exactly, and you could get information about the difference places as well, you were guided but not by hand holding, by common sense, but you could also choose not to use common sense and that was fun too. Why not take this system that worked really well and do it better using the greater resources available? Instead we get stupid and lazy decisions that's one of the reasons why people yearn for the old-school RPG in the first place.
