PAX South 2015 live thread
Quadrone replied to Leferd's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
While it's true that sometimes the tone here gets a bit abrasive, I still think the back and forth here is more productive then retreating to the sanctum of the echo chamber. -
PAX South 2015 live thread
Quadrone replied to Leferd's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Hmm, don't know if it was the right decision to just show some random brawls, bits and pieces. I'm a big fan and watching that I didn't feel much, if I didn't know the game I'd probably feel confused with Josh and Brandon just going through the motions, not even talking much. Not wanting to spoil even the slightest bit of story makes for a pretty dull experience for new viewers. -
OE: "Hey guys, even though we're less then 2 months away from having to send out the gold master for production we are still going to implement new stuff because of your feedback." Forum: "That's not good enough! Create a bunch ofl unique NPCs with unique scripts and interactions, please. Muh immershun!"

Cheatcodes for Project Eternity
Quadrone replied to Eraydon's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Eh, it's the uncompromising attitude. I'm not one who thrives in the face of challenge. I play on normal and have cheated before when I got frustrated. But to jump straight in and go "F*ck this, it's all too hard for me! I'll Godmode right to the end.", that I don't understand. If it's just story, not backing and waiting for a Let's Play on Youtube might have been the more economically sound decision. But of course you're right, enjoy however you want. -
Spell casting and Armor
Quadrone replied to Morm91's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Not that I know of. The heavier the armor the longer you have to wait in between actions, but the action itself is not affected. -

I'm not even sad. I'm impressed. -
I'm already mentally preparing for the patch to hit Wednesday next week.

Update #88: Final Sprint and... Release Date!
Quadrone replied to BAdler's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Announcements & News
Sure you don't wanna release a week earlier? Like this you release just 2 days after GTA V iirc. While I don't know if thats enough reason for consideration, but this'll surely cost you the top spot on the Steam front page. [/pessimist] -
Sure, more polish and content is always nice. But wouldn't Obsidian get in a bit of a bind if they don't announce the release date soon? Usually you want to have some time before release (2-3 months) to start marketing and invite press for some previews, etc... but then they also want to release ahead of the Witcher 3. Releasing even later then W3 is probably out of the question too (too expenisve), so all in all not much time remains.

Aside from the linux build I guess they're crunshing now to have something good/stable to show for PAX. Maybe a release date too?

Why don't you just tell me? Seems way more straightforward then sifting through several months worth of posts.

If I ever learned one thing from reading gaming forums (this one and others alike) then that would be that this is impossible to do anyway. There's always those who feel personally betrayed(!) when something vague doesn't live up to imagined expectations. Huh, just like now. What are these things OE have to address so desperatley to prevent the internet from blowing up in their face anyway? Balancing, combat pacing, bugs? No question there, but these are being taken care of already if possible. What promise is objectively being broken here?

Is the holiday backlog of reports being read?
Quadrone posted a question in Backer Beta Bugs and Support
I know this might sound needy but I'm getting a bit anxious about these roughly 7 pages of bug reports. I know the dev team has no time to answer all these threads with some sort of confirmation, but so far only NCarver has posted anything here and even that only in 3 threads. That was also the only time I cought a green reading this part of the forum. Though, specifically I'm getting uneasy because I submitted a somewhat serious bug early on in 392 and attached a savegame so it could be reproduced. That savegame still has 0 downloads. Made me wonder... -
[392] Prio Issues for Obsidian to Fix
Quadrone replied to IndiraLightfoot's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Yeah I think thats one of the biggest things really. If perhaps the little bar over the characters heads was bigger and less see through it would make things seem less messy. Perhaps also have a window showing your characters portrait and the enemy they are targeting with the enemy health, the current action being taken on them etc.... You just keep on digging... -
Druid Spiritshift is really bad, and needs to be improved
Quadrone replied to Sensuki's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Complete agreement. I didn't try the Druid in 392, but every time I did in an older build I met failure or just didn't feel an impact. In the case the spiritshift forms are underpowered on purpose to prevent the druid from being a perfect jack of all trades, I'd be open to taking away the spellcasting ability while shifted to even things out. -
I just wish the multiplayer topic remains open for futher development,,, along with game editor like in Neverwinter Nights series. Seriously? Not even mentioning the amount of work that would require, suffice to say that is not possible with 2D backgrounds. How so? Are you saying 4 million is a lot of money?

Back in v301 a bug was reported about the Pigs in Dyrford displaying an error message when clicked on. While this has been fixed, when you now click on them a semi transparent square appears over them. I guess this is a background that is supposed to increase readability of text? In the case that the pigs do not get some sort of descriptive text back this can be removed as well.

[392] Feedback on attributes: Perception feels OP
Quadrone replied to PrimeJunta's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Just gonna jump on the train and agree that CON and DEX are dump candidates most of the time. With the low percentages they give it just doesn't feel like it pays off to put "some" points in either. How long is +12% endurance gonna last you in a fight? -
Sheathing weapons

REAL Time... (with pause)
Quadrone replied to Surface Reflection's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
True I guess, at some very early point better combat animations could have been an option. But not without making cuts to the overall scope of PoE, which would be the point of another discussion right about now, had Obsidian chosen to do so. Meh, maybe I'm a stick in the mud, but isn't it pointless if the subject of said debate is already "set in stone"? It is the objective truth that the devs already said that new features will not be put in, even avoided as BAdler said. This isn't discussing something with a ton of possibilities yet open, like the future of deep space exploration but something very limited and defined. The game Pillars of Eternity, out in the next quarter, with the budget of $4 Mil., etc... So why talk about features that will not, cannot see the light of day? -
REAL Time... (with pause)
Quadrone replied to Surface Reflection's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
You are becoming hysterical. While your angry tantrums are a joy to read I honestly tried to lower your expectations when I previously said: "Since PoE is feature complete right now I doubt Obsidian will implement several entirely new sets of animations anytime soon. Some smooting out, yes. Maybe even an additional attack animation or hit animation shared across all classes but no more." Here's a post where Brandon Adler confirms this: http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/69201-update-on-the-update/?p=1549248 But sure, make all the "What if..." posts you like, I won't stop you. -
REAL Time... (with pause)
Quadrone replied to Surface Reflection's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Well, of course a complex set of various combat animations would be a treat over the basic 1-2-3 attacks we currently have, no question. Just as long as you understand that this was never an option for PoE. And I know you do, so I have to wonder why you'd even write a long post fantasizing about it. Your opinions are fascinating. But it's still unlikely to happen for reasons already pointed out before. I'd also like to point out that the PoE team is not "big" as only a fraction of Obsidian employees are working on PoE. -
REAL Time... (with pause)
Quadrone replied to Surface Reflection's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
... I don't even know what to say. I'll just point out that you're setting yourself up for disappointment if you believe that much is going to chang about the "stand in place and swing" combat. That is how it is intended and the most we can expect here, if anything at all, is added variety to existing animation types. -
REAL Time... (with pause)
Quadrone replied to Surface Reflection's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
That might be misplaced expectations. Since PoE is feature complete right now I doubt Obsidian will implement several entirely new sets of animations anytime soon. Some smooting out, yes. Maybe even an additional attack animation or hit animation shared across all classes but no more. Maybe. We're probably no more than about 3 Months from release. Bugs, performance optimization and a cleanly working story mode are of higher importance.
