  1. Okay, I'll take the low road and wonder how expensive it would be in time and resources to provide DA2-like detailed 3D models of the characters and all possible equipment? I mean, wouldn't a Diablo III-style inventory interface be sufficient for this purpose? Perhaps they can use a basic interface for the release, then go more fancy with a sequel?
  2. Historically, soldiers carried 25-35 kg of weight for long marches. A suit of plate armor was around 20 kg. Plus most knights with plate could also afford a decent warhorse to carry most of the load. Modern U.S. infantry soldiers carry loads of up to 45 kg, but drop most of it for combat.
  3. Had a closer look. Besides the overall beauty, I love the level of surface clutter detail you get in this illustration. It looks much more plausibly realistic than many 3D rendered surfaces in games like Oblivion or Fallout 3.
  4. Hopefully the humans are a forest green, the elves are azure, and the dwarves are a pale shade of mauve with magenta pupils. Then we can get back to playing the game instead of reliving modern concerns. Alternatively, you can look at skin tone of northerners from the perspective of an evolutionary adaptation to lower levels of ultraviolet radiation and its consequences in terms of vitamin D deficiency.
  5. It was the best of times, it was the worst of times...
  6. Gnoblins? Their reputation doesn't match that of hobbits or gnomes; more goblinish.
  7. Very true. As in Oblivion where you spend 15 minutes just trying to make your character look half way decent. I'm sure the uncanny valley has something to do with it.
  8. I don't think so, but people can always contribute afterward via PayPal. They'll have to set the budget at some point.
  9. IIRC, back in BG they did a kind of fade if you walked behind an overlaid graphic. Fallout had something comparable; I think it faded an area surrounding the character. Other games have done similar, so I'd expect it (or maybe something better) for PE.
  10. It's nice graphically, but hopefully that would just be part of a larger area map. Otherwise it might be a bit cramped for a combat encounter. Like the almanac idea as well. Kudos!
  11. In think they talked about using a flip-book approach, so the water, trees, grass and smoke from the fireplace would be a looping set of overlaid images. Still, that can be very effective graphically and it doesn't require a fast graphics card.
  12. If you kill an undead, then resurrect it, what does it become? A living undead?
  13. I was thinking along the lines of shared enhancement trees that you can earn with certain combinations of class levels. This would be used to balance out the spell-casting progression and to provide additional character tuning options. Perhaps make external training a requirement for access, as per DA:O.
  14. I really, really want to see the water in motion. That scene will be wicked! I can almost feel the cool misty air on my cheeks.
  15. kickstarter ain't no business - you're donating because of good will and you will recieve a reward. this reward is just a goodie and should not reflect the amount you pledged. The t-shirt might be thought of as a "talking point"; in one sense it gives you a certain conversation piece where you can talk about your experience of contributing to the Kickstarter. Handled right, that might even lead to more people contributing and playing the game.
  16. Where are the "Let's let Obsidian decide what's appropriate for their story and setting" options?
  17. A thought occurs: posting XML files with embedded mercenary information. Somebody can just maintain those on their gaming web site for others to download. Need to be careful with security issues though.
  18. Fixed Well it's not stupid; I just thought that would balance out the poll. Thanks.
  19. There's no "Whatever Obsidian things is appropriate for the setting" option.
  20. My understanding was the focus would be on the single-player experience. Several of your suggestions would require maintaining a server presence on the internet, which would add to the costs and be an ongoing expense. You'd need a subscription model or advertising in order to maintain it. I'd rather not see either. Other than that though, I do like the notion of fleshing out the Adventurer Hall experience.
  21. I've seen this implemented as an "Adventurer" class. IIRC, it's basically the combat skills of a cleric combined with many of the non-combat skills of the rogue, but with little or no spell-casting ability. You could get something similar by multi-classing as a Fighter/Rogue.
