  1. Termination Shock by Neal Stephenson. Like his previous works, it's a dense, lengthy read. But at least it's kept me interested enough. I barely began Anathema before it put me right off. Maybe I'll try that again later.
  2. I'm skeptical that the engines will hold up for that long, but okay.
  3. The CDC does recommend that people diagnosed with monkeypox wear a mask because it can be communicated through airborne droplets. But you need to be in very close proximity for it to be passed.
  4. Dark Winds has been decent thus far. It's still early, but I've enjoyed the pacing and the characters.
  5. It depends on what you mean by relatively little. I wouldn't say ~$100 million per day is relatively little. The US likely won't spent as much on supporting a foreign war as they do on their own military activities.
  6. Is it just me or does anybody else get a "creepy stare" feel from the cut scene dialogues? 3.2 seconds, people.
  7. This is a fundamentally incorrect analysis in so many ways. The West can't intervene directly because of the likelihood of nuclear escalation. Ukraine had the resources to fight this war without Western aid, but having that aid has made the defense more effective. Getting the Ukraine army equipped and trained up to western standards won't happen overnight; it will probably take a year or more. Meanwhile, I'd expect the goal of the West is to create a stable outcome. If that means giving Russia a bloody nose so they think twice before invading again, then so be it. If it takes an extended guerrilla war lasting a decade, well that will be up to the two sides to resolve.
  8. Suicide rates didn't increase during pandemic Well, at least there's one piece of good news. Too bad it wasn't true of domestic violence.
  9. Regardless of how you feel about Kavanaugh, physical attacks on the judicial branch are not a good trend for a democracy. I don't find it amusing.
