i remember reading an article about a game that had the choices so well integrated to the story that you were not even aware you were making a choice. for most people the game seemed linear because they all waited for some sort of prompt to do anything (prompt that never came) and were awestruck to learn that others, who took the initiative without waiting for the game to tell them what to do in the various situations, had gone through a completelly different storyline i cant remember the name of the game though

about Magran, i dont remember well the situation but i found the whole thing to make sense at the time. the soul enters the body at birth. the various machines you find around are pulling the souls that are headed for the newborn away and trap them in sun in shadow that acts like a central server. so when you release the souls in whatever manner, you also stop the machine from siphoning new souls through the proxy pillars and thus you end the hollowborn curse. no matter what you do with the souls in the end there are always enough in reserve and it is stated clearly that a soul can be split in 2 and allow 2 separate people to be born. also, who's to say a soul cannot be created just as it can be disintegrated... they seem to be made of extra dimentional particles after all. as for adra, it acts as a sort of network that transfers souls from and to any place in the world and also stores them for indefinite periods of time. it is practically the physical manifestation of the wheel of reincarnation and also the residence of the gods (since each god is a mass union of ancient Engwithan souls)

they should simply remove the weight limit and be done with it

That's a shame. Sounds like a predictable, (and unwelcome) side effect of the open world gameplay. open world or not, i can count on the fingers of one hand the time sensitive quests of all RPGs i played combined

i need to see if i can change the FOV because the default makes me feel sick by the way, they really pulled off a miracle of optimization when it comes to memory management in this game according to some tests i ve seen. with everything maxed, it needs less than 2GB VRAM

Consequences of Raedric's Hold
teknoman2 replied to williamgodfrey's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
He wasn't fair to his wife though. The mothers of Hollowborn were supposed to be only exiled, not executed. In fact, he didn't even kill her because of the Hollowborn, but for her continued worship of Eothas. being an Eothasian or give birth to a hollowborn are both reasons for a yellow card. do them together and you get a red card -
it's not only about Aloth. a problem with the game in general is that while it has delivered all the things it promissed, it delivered each in a very small quantity. it's like having the best pizza in the world, complete with all it's ingredients, but in a size that allows you to eat it in a single bite... it tastes heavenly, but it cant satisfy your hunger

a glanfathan raider raped a dyrwoodan woman durring the broken stone war and got her pregnant, then he died before the child was born his soul was reincarnated in the child, who's mother taught him to hate glanfathans. that hate was put to good use in the black tree war then the soul reincarnated into Maerwald, awakened, and all hell broke loose as the 2 previous lives were constantly fighting with each other inside him, driving him mad the soul may be the same, but each life is different, and the memory and personality the person had in each life remains dormant within the soul. when awakened, the person the soul used to belong to emerges within the mind of the current owner of the soul... not as memories of a past life but as a distinct personality that shares the same body as seen in Aloth

Consequences of Raedric's Hold
teknoman2 replied to williamgodfrey's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
I went with Raedric, but to call him "harsh but fair" is stupid. His management of the Hollowborn crisis was cruel and short-sighted. But I couldn't shake the impression that if he didn't have to worry about Korsk, he would become less harsh and less inclined to hang people from Gilded Vale, and that once the crisis was over, he would become a more respectable leader. the part about him being fair is the part about his wife. his choice may have being cruel, but considering he had no clue as to what was going on or how to solve it and the wild west type of place the Dyrwood is (first we hang him, then we decide if he is guilty), the measures were not extreme. if the target of these measures was anyone but the locals, the people would be more than happy to participate in the hangings, but since they were included, Raedric was unpopular -
as you may have noticed, a watcher can extend his soul in order to come into contact with things around him. he doesnt have to touch something he just has to be in same location. Maerwald, due to his condition, has expanded his soul uncontrollably all around the keep, and you come in contact with the memories of that soul as you walk around

i didnt like that on DOS either. im level 10 he is 11... how much stronger can he possibly be with a single level, that i miss all my attacks and those that hit do almost no damage? and it gets more annoying when i get to level 11, same weapon, same stats, same skills and now i can kill him easily

Consequences of Raedric's Hold
teknoman2 replied to williamgodfrey's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
i went with Raedric. he is harsh but fair. he did not exempt his wife from the law he himself established about giving birth to hollowborn. he tried everything he could in order to find a solution. there was none, but he at least tried he was a loved and respected ruler before the legacy and gilded vale thrived. he wasnt a crazy murderer from the start, circumstances forced his hand he was the legitimate ruller, so siding with him would carry favor among the important people in Defiance bay Kolsic is like a politician. he tries to gain favor from all by speaking with big words about big ideals in order to gain power for himself. he has poor leadership skills, since he attacked and failed to capture a castle full of soldiers who just wanted an excuse to change sides and he has no plan about what to do with gilded vale when he becomes the ruler. he is a shortsighted man who bases his strategy on the shortshightedness of others. -
What's your character's backstory?
teknoman2 replied to Aventinus's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
John was a normal human child. His parents were traveling merchants in Old Vailia and had seem most of that land by the age of 12. Intelligent and perceptive, he could learn anything faster than most, provided he had an interest in it. At 12, his parent's caravan was attacked by bandits and he was the only survivor. With no relatives to take him in, he had to live in the streets and learn the tricks of a rogue in order to survive. His wits, quick learning ability and keen senses allowed him to always have more than enough money while keeping a low profile. He always had the habbit to question everything and hated being in the dark, and while honest at heart, he often had to make hard choices to protect himself and that included the manipulation of others through words... read him and tell him what he wants to hear became his motto. One thing he had seen time and again, was people who died a horrible death because they could not see further than their nose, and that became a lesson to always keep the big picture in mind, no matter how focussed on a detail you are. At 16 he was eligible for the army (and had a few too many grudges from other criminals), so he decided to turn a new page and lead an honest life. He joined and soon showed a talent with the bow, however his fate was not to be an archer as parts of the training for the reqruits were meant to decide if they could be used for special roles (like spies or assassins) and he was chosen to become an assassin. Most of the targets he was asked to kill he already knew from his days as a rogue and knew they deserved worse than a quick death, however things turned sour when 4 years later he was given an order that he could not obey. The order was to place a bomb that would kill dozens of civilians and make it look like a local lord gave the order, so that the population will rebel against him. The plan was for him and the bomb maker, to carry a part of the bomb each, and meet at the target location with another 4 people who had the rest of the parts... the bomb maker would assemble the bomb, John would place it and all 6 of them would spread rumors and fake evidence to make the lord look guilty. Unwilling to follow that order, he set out for the location pretending that he would do it, but midway he killed the bomb maker (a psycho who was way too happy to watch the crowd blow to pieces), threw the bomb parts in the river and ran off to the nearest port town. Knowing that his superiors will soon find out about it, he got on the first ship out of port and ended up on Dyrwood -
Why must you oppose Raedric VII?
teknoman2 replied to Luckmann's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
i played in expert mode so i did not have all the [ ] to tell me what i was choosing... i picked my answers based on what i would say if i was there in any given situation. i have to post a screenshot of my reputations... as for that lord, i simply followed the least confrontational aproach until i got some answers in the end i let him rule instead of his cousin, because he cared for his people despite the twisted way he tried to save them with nad the ending proved my decision was a good one. besides, siding with the legitimate ruler of the province looks better on your resume when dealing with politicians. -
same here. a free recording tool for gameplay videos and with adjustable video quality btw i dont use the optimizations because they do the oposite of what nvidia does in most cases.

the issue with the acceleration-deceleration on movement can be solved. if you have a pad, just reduce pressure on the analog stick to walk before stoping, and use less pressure to walk instead of running if you need to move a very small distance (like a couple of steps to be within reach of a container) if you use keyboard, you do the same by pressing the "toggle walk" key when walking there is no lag between the input and the execution, be it starting to move or stoping. so far the place where movement counts (battle) has no delays.
