i saw a video about benchmarking the 1080. first thing that i noticed about it is how the charts had conveniently chosen stats, but despite their best efforts i rolled a 20 for perception and noticed something they failed to mention about the card: it had lower fps in DX12 compared to DX11 by about the same % as the 900 series.

Blame Social Justice Warriors for Donald Trump

the problem with the SJWs is that they preach about justice and equality and all other stuff in places where those rights and the laws that protect them already exist. have you seen any of them go preach in Iran or Saudi Arabia or Emirates about women's rights, religious freedom and racial equality? of course not, because there they will have to actually fight for what they preach and risk life and limb, instead of sitting atop their self-righteous moral high ground and act high and mighty while protected by the laws they pretend to ask for -
i usually keep them clean but this time i accidentally pushed the wax deep in the ear instead of pulling it out and i felt like i was constantly wearing earplugs... at least it was only one ear and not both

Finished Thief 4... the questionable design choices that did not seem that bad at first became a cumulative problem in the later stages of the game because the cost vs reward for most secondary missions was off. For most secondary missions it was necessary to use a rope arrow to reach to destination and that cost 450g to buy but the total income from doing the mission was much less than 450g so my wallet was getting in the red all the time, making it hard to but the stuff i actually needed for the main missions. (un)fortunately i could just replay previous missions and get extra loot but it was rather annoying.

Thief 4. It's not such a bad game overall but it certainly has some design choices that are questionable if not outright bad. The most glaring one is the way the secondary objectives in missions are often at odds with each other or even with primary objectives like "don't get detected" and "beat an enemy in a fight" at the same time. Also i would prefer it if they had the game be mission based like the first 2. Instead of a semi-open world with 8 main missions and 20 side missions, it would be better if they made 15 main missions and fleshed out the story more through them. However it did have a moment of genius in the asylum mission where you find a safe but no matter how hard you look you can't find the combination while it is right in the same room. And when you do find it you get a feeling like you just beat a really hard boss in Dark Souls but i bet not many people did it without looking at a guide. The reason is that the combination is communicated to you through the sound coming from the pipes on the wall which you just dismiss as the usual creepy sound of the setting of the mission while hearing it repeating over and over

i read a nice one of the entire 900 series' sales, the 980 (both normal and ti) sold about 5%, the 970 about 13%, the titan 3% and the rest was split between 950 and 960

they didn't really release any solid info, they just dumped some numbers and overhyped the performance. we have to wait until the card is actually on the market to get any reliable info

i was watching a video of the reveal on youtube and i was not really convinced by the guy on stage (though the fanboys in the audience were drooling). he was emphasizing way too much the 2x fps at 3 times power efficiency, like there was nothing else he knew or could say about the card. still, the marketing trick nvidia uses i old but effective: they make a monster card that very few people can buy and then they use it to create hype for the mainstream cards like the x50 and x60 by saying "we made that beast, all our cards are better and that is why they are more expensive". so people fall in the trap that makes them think that the 960 that is a bit more expensive than the 380 is better than the 380 and nvidia sells more
-
i worded it wrong... i meant 3 times the power efficiency but i wasn't paying attention while typing.

the reveal was done they said that the 1080 will have twice the power of the 980 at 3 times lower watts at 600$. they also had a demo of the new doom running in vulcan on the 1080: 1080p, max settings 150fps. release date may 27 for the 1080 and mid june for the 1070 (about 50% faster than the 980 at 400$) which i don't find all that awesome considering the AMD prototype of their 200$ card in GDC was running hitman at 1440p, max settings and 60fps (vsync on). we have to wait and see

i was in the hospital one day visiting a relative and i heard 2 doctors talking. one of them was a neurologist (the neurology and pathology wards are next to each other) and he said that being an SJW should be classified as a mental disorder instead of being promoted as a progressive ideology. their inability (or conscious refusal) to contextualize language and the way lash out to any and everyone who uses a word or performs an act that they deem offensive is akin to severe autism -

that was so far because AMD had AC that nothing actually supported so they had to push the chips to keep up with nvidia that had perfected the linear processing. now with dx12 and vulcan that support AC they wont have to push the chips so hard

Pictures of your Games Episode VII The Screenshot Awakens
teknoman2 replied to Blarghagh's topic in Computer and Console
i won't bother making a topic about it but here's a first artwork piece of the new battlefield game (presumably) EDIT confirmed that this is the box cover of the new BF. it is set in WW1 and the reason for the black looking character is because the campaign will be around the missions of the Harlem Hellfighters (or at least that is the conjecture most make based on the info we currently have) -
because blanks do not activate the mechanism that puts a new round in the chamber so you have to manually pull the ****ing handle after every shot. blanks could fool someone in a bolt action rifle but not in an automatic

Games you want that'll likely never exist

an mmo that follows the creed "less is more". a HUGE number of options to pick from but with only a few choices available for you make among these options making every single character unique in it's function within the world and thus creating a natural need for cooperation. let's make an example characters have 4 stats that can be raised from 1 to 100 Strength for hp and interactions with heavy objects Agility for the speed and efficiency of all movement/jumping/climbing Intelligence for mana and interaction with puzzles Will for stamina/defense and interaction with npc each of these stats affects in a different way the various skills. ranged magical skills have 1% lower cooldown for every 4 strength, 1% more damage for every 4 intelligence, 1% lower mana cost for every 4 will and 1% shorter cast time for every 4 agility melee magical skills all have 75% splash damage and do 1% more splash damage for every 4 strength, 1% more damage for every 4 intelligence, 1% greater splash radius for every 4 will and 1% chance to double cast for every 4 agility. melee physical skills have damage for strength, critical chance for agility, armor penetration for intelligence and chance to cause an additional effect for will ranged physical skills have damage for agility, critical chance for intelligence, lower cooldown for will and greater range for strength and any other skill type like crowd control, adventuring etc will have benefits basted on the attributes this way there is no "must have" attribute because each offers something depending on how you want to play. classes will have combat and adventuring skills (i.e ranger will be able to use track to reveal invisible creatures or players, thief will have hide to become invisible) and besides classes there will be professions and each character can only have one. each profession has a governing attribute (i.e miner requires strength, scribe requires intelligence) and it's level can be raised up to what your current value of the governing attribute allows (let's say there are 20 levels of miner, that means that with 55 strength you can reach up to lv11 and you will have to get 5 more str before you can get it to 12). a fighter may not be too keen on investing on intelligence but if he does and becomes a scribe, he will be a rare commodity for his guild and will make money in the market because a scribe is able to create scrolls containing any one of his skills that can be used by anyone. so let's say the fighter has a skill that makes him invulnerable to damage for a few seconds and makes scrolls with it... every single player who has a glass cannon build will jump at the chance to get these scrolls. a wizard with ranged magic may not be too keen on strength but if he becomes a swordsmith, he will be able to imbue swords with the effects of any one of his skills making a type of sword (like a flame or ice blade) no other class can. in short a system that makes characters feel unique or at least rare instead of the usual "everyone can do everything so nobody is special" trend that mmos follow for a really long time now. -
i can think of many women i would gladly sleep with, but not a single one that i would want as a girlfriend/wife... neither real nor fictional.

i read a post in another forum that described the difference between AMD and nVidia. in short, according to him, AMD keeps pushing the technology forward with stuff like mantle, AC etc, but nVidia has the lion's share of the market due to better marketing and their only contribution is black box middleware like physX and gameworks that are more targeted at harming the performance of rival hardware than enhancing the game's visuals EDIT
