  1. Whoops! Yeah, it's been too long. They turned yellow! Never realized how clever the color choice was until now..
  2. Looks like the majority would like something a bit special now and then, as long as it's not zoom in cutscenes.
  3. Yeah, mixing up engines. Arcanum and ToEE are made with the same engine? That's just.. WOW. Arcanum looks just the same as IE games, only not as good, while ToEE is still good looking as hell. And I did think Fallout 1&2 would have been IE as well (but I did know tactics had a new engine, and a pretty good one at that).
  4. The worst is having some "once per combat" skills or effects. Then it's a big deal wether the two waves of enemies form one battle or two.
  5. Doesn't really surprise me, it's subjective and I'm often pretty much alone with my opinions. So let me agree with some stuff you said instead. Looks are in the eye and so on, but the control is indeed far more precise in IE games. Not something I pay much attention to, though. With blockier, I meant basically the low polygon world of NWN, it does look a bit better ib 1600x1200, unless you look close. In complete agreement here. ToEE is why I have high hopes for the looks of Project Eternity. I'm mixing it with NWN (and not IE games) only because it's not IE based and it has 3D models (hence the fluid character movement). Again, that's what I meant. NWN felt and played better, but after NWN2 it's low polygon world felt even blockier. Half agreement here. Looks and controls of DA:O were just about perfect for me. Although I liked almost everything else about it as well. I'd have been thrilled to get more of the same goodness in expansions. (Which is why I was so upset to see the expansions were just a hackfest and that DA2 tossed most of what was good in DA:O)
  6. I pretty much disliked running after the last escapee, except in Fallout where I'd get sadistic pleasure from executing them. What I'd like to see is (at least human/humanoid) opponents surrendering when their morale breaks. Then you'd have to figure out what to do now. Let them go, hang them?
  7. WUT? As I said I'm not really into nostalgy for the sake of it, but both NWN and NWN2 look, feel and control far worse than any IE title. Still shots of IE games can still look quite stunning, much better than similar shots from NWN, that is a given. But yeah, I'm much more allergic to jerky movement than blocky graphics. NWN and ToEE characters have nice fluid moves even if they look pretty horrible close up. NWN 2 spoiled things for me pretty badly, suddenly NWN looked even blockier, but NWN2 had worse gameplay (but better plot). ToEE is the only one of the old games I can still play just for the looks and fun of playing.
  8. Hear, hear! One of my dislikes is the "rewarding scene" where you're offered gold or a magic item for your services. If the offer is The Item and you go all noble and modest and refuse, the result is always the same. "Oh, you're so gallant, but I insist" you get the item and +500 extra XP. If the offer is money, you can usually: - take the 500gp as offered - be greedy and insist on 750gp, which you will get. - ask for no reward, and get 500XP goody bonus (and probably the 500gp as well) Basically I'd like to see a world where you can't help all the poor by spending 3% of your wealth. Try to solve the worlds problems and go bankrupt. But be known as a saint.
  9. Guess there's a bit of ground the options didn't cover. But basically 1.) means the cutscenes and the in fight things fall into category 3.) although what DA2 had was a bit more than I had in mind. But the same basic thing, you're up close all the time in DA2, or Witcher so the animations are as well.
  10. As it happens, I (and probably many others) have the possibility of playing a totally new IE game. In my case it's Arcanum. I've begun it once, but couldn't get over the mental adjustment phase getting of into the mood. Begun again, but I seem to be trailing off. Played Torment for the first time a year ago (or few years? when it came to gog anyway), took effort but was rewarding. Hated the combat all the way through. I'd played BG2 maybe 5 years ago, but had given up on BG1. Finished the first part last year, almost completely not fun. Actually I played none of the ie games back then, started on them around 2005 or thereabouts. Of the "classics" Fallout 2 is the only one I still enjoy playing, Temple of Elemental Evil as well but that's not ie. No. I want more modern stuff. At least a bit more. NWN was great 5 yrs ago, but was spoiled a little by NWN2.
  11. I'm kind of halfway there myself. The special animations are actually, sorta, hella annoying. Particularly if it's like DA where my mage flays the super ogre with flames, fireballs, then coup de grace with a meteor strike and then.. there's a shot of my mage runs to the ogre with and goes stabbity stab with a stinking dagger, like what THE ACTUAL HELL!!! Or even more mundane matter like Fallout, shoot the supermutant 20 times, 3 of which are criticals and then the last critical blows a huge big hole right through his whole body, like.. what, the gun can do that now? I'd have liked to do that on the first shot thank you very much. On the other hand, if I have the Vorpal Blade of Utter Destruction, a divine strength of twenty men and the skills of Lancelot, I'd like to see the fool kobold in front of me to not just ouuh collapse in its place when hit, I'd like to cleave him in half, and the split halves to fly 20 feet in the air! So.. when it makes sense. A good strong critical might severe the head or limb, go through all the way, disintegrate the head or the whole body. But only if it's a really good strong hit to begin with, preferably the kind that would kill the opponent right away even if he's at full health. And actually, since these are 3D models we're talking about, severing limbs isn't quite as big a task as one might think, not trivial but not completely crazy hard either.
  12. First I'll applaud the poll, which seems unnaturally unbiased. To me, it seems natural my character will try and make a pass at any given babe he (or she) is traveling with. (especially if it's a whipping hot leather elf) Maybe get shot down, but if I'm charismatic and cool and awesome, why not success as well. That's the main thing, the rest is extra. I'd enjoy if the "romance" is developed further, all is fine and great. And I wouldn't mind if the whole thing turns into soft- or hard porn, but I also understand some (silly prudes) oppose, and fully understand many don't like to see developement effort wasted like that. A Dance With Rogues was one of my favourite NWN modules, btw.
  13. They do that because the wizards are based on historical seers, alchemists and astrologers like this guy. Shamans and witch doctors as well. Generally those guys didn't go in to battle though, nevermind dungeons. Generally when you're an unwashed smelly researcher with scruffy hair, you just toss a mumu all over that, a silly hat to hide the hair, maybe sprinkle a bit of perfume and you're good and set to see the king...
  14. So the finishing moves thread by Boretti got sidetracked a little, so I decided to make it a poll. Because a) Polls are cool and b) because I hear Obsidian is going to make the game totally based on poll results. 1. Pretty much the standard nowadays, the grander the killmove the better the game. Even Witcher 2 has these all over. Stop the action, zoom in and let me enjoy the moment! 2. Fallout endbosses, long sequences seeing them just squirt stuff and die. Very rewarding, I hear. This option also contains everything from choice 3. Just because. 3. Fallout *ka-splooch* when the opponent suddenly has a huge hole in the center, or twitches while being filled with tiny holes, or is burnt to crisp, or the way BG opponents would splatter all over the place like wet red fireworks. 4. Keep it simple and don't focus on the fluff. Spartan is the way I want them. 5. Just show me extended hand to mark an attack. All these new fangled 3D animations are crazy, crazy! 6. Animations, we didn't have any stinking animations in the day and that's the way we liked it! Just tell me I'm likely to be eaten by a grue and I'll imagine the rest. Although a few pics by Justin Sweet would be fine.
  15. Depends. If the combat is interesting, if there are important choices to be made, if you can create a wide variety of characters. Then maybe I'd play the game again. I've replayed ToEE, KotOR, KotOR 2, NWN 2, DA:O and many others. But I have no interest in replaying Torment or BG, although I would like to replay BG 2 one day. Not really what kind, but if. But if I replay, it'll be with a new character.
  16. Not the way it's suggested in the OP, but yes. Enemy AI should always be at max. They probably wont qualify for mensa anyway. Don't see the need to separate resistances from HP's or stuff like that. But as mentioned in some other thread, I'd like to see "disable friendly fire" kind of options for combat, and why not "easier puzzles" for someone else who basically just likes combat.
  17. Tooltips. The kind you can disable from game options. It would be helpful at first, with 50 strange icons hovering about. I might kind of like a small separate tutorial, but it's probably not worth the effort to make or go through.
  18. The interesting monster is in somehow interesting location doing something for some probable reason. The actual combat capabilities and tactics don't interest me too much, although they will come to play. If a big nasty hellspawn werewolf *poof* appears next to you, it's all about picking the right tools and whack, whack, WHACK! But if you're seeking the same wolf in a misty village and you have to spread out to find it quickly! Hurry up before it snatches another child and disappears, then there's intensity and the whole thing is suddenly interesting! Well, to me at least.
  19. A toggle to turn it off at easy difficulty thank you. I can't see how it takes the fun out of your game if I prefer easy combat. With about 30 yrs of crpg experience, I'm pretty sure I know what I like. ...says someone who finished DA:O three times on easy.. --- Eternity, remains to be seen. Maybe it'll be like Temple of Elemental Evil and I enjoy the tactics, turn up the difficulty a notch. But maybe it'll be more like ie games and I just want to enjoy the story and fight as little as possible as fast as possible. Generally, if the story is good and I get immersed, having to reload breaks the immersion. Basically I'd like to enjoy the whole campaign without a single reload. Because reload is cheating, ask your DM about it.
  20. Nothing like what's been plaguing rpg's for the past years. No! But I wouldn't mind the final hit occasionally cutting of heads or limbs, swords and spears going all the way through. Even that's assuming attention isn't automatically focused on the fact and assuming the hit is a hard one indeed. Subtle flavor is fine while yeaaaahhh loook aaaaaaatttt theeeeesss eepiiiic STRIKE STRIKE STRIKE is not.
  21. NWN2 and Mask of the Betrayer both had tremendously powerful crafting system, completely dwarfing all other magic items in game. So did KotOR 2 actually. The thing is, to me it seems being able to craft good powerful items suggests a current high magic society. The kind where "masters of old" weren't back then, but now. And I actually would like to see that implemented for once, a world were now is the glorious time. You wouldn't be able to find old awesomely powerful items, because they couldn't make them as well in the olden days as they can now. But... what kind of world will Eternity be set in? Much depends on that. If the glory days are past, buried in forgotten temples, it makes sense you find the most powerful stuff buried in old temples, or from the corpse of your opponent who looted the temple.
  22. In complete agreement here, as you can see from my last page answer, which is why I added the "Don't want that stuff in a game with a strong storyline." But then I got carried away in a tangent. Which is something I do. Because I'm old and strange.
  23. I could go for an adventure simulation. A more open world sandbox game with random missions and dungeons. Where you'd need to worry of all that stuff, wounded party members might die of infections or stay crippled. Don't want that stuff in a game with a strong storyline, but basically that'd be a new kind of game I'd like to see.* Flashpoint was awesome, btw, somehow I don't like Arma (or arma2) as much. *Mount & Blade is awesome as well, but not the same thing.
  24. Should one characters equipment be wearable by other characters without a trip to Smith & Tailor's? Because that obviously can't happen if opponents armor can't be readily used either. Again, avoid micromanagement where possible, chores and busywork - not fun. But I could go for the traditional "small armor, only usable by gnomes and hobbits". Although I'm not half sorry if those races don't make the cut.
