Bad rogue, bad party, bad player?
Palmtuna replied to Simna's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I would also recommend getting a few more party members. I remembers trying it with four members ( Aloth, Durance, Kana, and my paladin) and dropping the quest until I had a few more people and levels under my belt. -
Intel HD 3000?
Palmtuna replied to JBrown247's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I run the game on a Dell Latitude 6420 (a laptop) with an hd3000 graphics card and it is doable. This is especially true after the first couple of patches that added some graphics settings to be turned down. The animations were pretty choppy at first (especially while running in fast mode, dear God was that immersion breaking) but those patches made it better. -
More nonlethal options
Palmtuna replied to perilisk's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Having a confusion spell would be very interesting. Or even having something along the lines of a Jedi's force suggestion would be very cool if implemented right. If you were to fail the mind suggestion it could lead to combat and you would gain reputation as someone who uses the spell, making people more suspicious of you. -
Note on the Map
Palmtuna replied to Varrgas's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Even though I rarely use the map-note writing features in games that actually have them, I still really appreciate and like the idea. I could be mistaken, but I don't think it would be that hard to implement either -
More nonlethal options
Palmtuna replied to perilisk's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I would really love to see something like this. There have been several times where I focus all of my attacks on the 'leader', hoping that killing them will cause the lesser enemies to flee/surrender. This has yet to work and is a bit of a letdown. -
Grim Feel & Effects
Palmtuna replied to Connavar's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
An option certainly wouldn't hurt. Other than the flavor descriptions on some of the unique/named weapons, there is no real reason to buy most of them since you can usually get the same effects on other gear for a fraction of the cost. -
PoE Sales?
Palmtuna replied to Palmtuna's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
To be honest, I did not expect nine pages of stuff from my OP and gave up trying to read the everything by page four. Good points all around, folks, but I think this dead horse has been beaten enough to make a nice stew. -
Has anyone heard how many copies have been sold (excluding the backers)?

Silly question maybe...
Palmtuna replied to Octopus-Pancake's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
You will not get in trouble for sharing the game. Hell, that's the beauty of DRM free. If he likes it and has morals, I'm sure he will buy it. If he likes and doesn't buy it, there is a special place in hell waiting for pirates like him -
I found a pair of my wisdom teeth from when I had them removed, and was thinking about turning them into a couple of d6. Is there anyone out there familiar with dice making or teeth who could let me know if this feasible?

I could not agree more. The item enchantment especially where you can beef up any weapon/armor with any spell allowed for a disgusting amount of customization for whatever you wanted to do. I would however would like to make it a little tougher to make game breaking by ramping up the cost/skill needed to create them, or by even having to collect certain rare items in order to make epic level enchantments. Because as fun as it is having a sword with +80 strength with +30 poison and fire damage for 5 seconds, no one should have have something that absurdly powerful unless they put in a disgusting amount of play time in.

Lockpicking Mechanics
Palmtuna replied to limith's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
I think you need to change your title to 'Lephys, Defender of the minigame' -
Lockpicking Mechanics
Palmtuna replied to limith's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
I don't see why there can't be leveling up your lockpicking skill through both experience and skill points. Take Fallout 3 for example, you got XP through picking locks and hacking computers, which allowed you to improve your picking or hacking skill when you leveled up. I don't think there should be primarily one or the other, but rather a healthy combination of the two. And as for the mini-games, I personally like them. -
Ishar's Recruit/Dismiss
Palmtuna replied to Felithvian's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I would have to agree. A pretty good example of this in another game would be in the Mount and Blade series where your hero companions would react to several things such as retreating from battle and having other hero companions in your party. If any of your companions got fed up with your actions they would leave the party, which could be a large problem. This lead to a lot of decision and companion juggling as certain companions naturally disliked other ones. -
Dialogue & Stealth
Palmtuna replied to Chippy's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I don't see how having NPCs as the main party talker would cost a lot more. Some of the dialog may not be quite as in depth, granted, but I'm sure it would work fine if you were just trying to get information or talking to a sketchy person to start a quest. In fact I think it would be a pretty cool idea where some NPCs would refuse to talk to your character due to your race or something and having to have one of your companions talk for you (which you may or may not have control of, making the end result unpredictable depending on the companions responses) -
Artisan Class
Palmtuna replied to Gyor's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I like this a lot. Having an artificer class or at least a build would be pretty helpful and ridiculously satisfying to use. I don't see why they wouldn't be able to make a class like that since the $2.4 million stretch goal of crafting and enchanting has been reached. -
Dialogue & Stealth
Palmtuna replied to Chippy's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I would agree. There were a few times in KoTOR where you were forced to talk to someone. Even if you were hidden, you would suddenly uncloak and the person would look straight at you. The best way to fix that would probably be the ability to choose what member(s) of the party approach and which ones stay back in case things get ugly. I haven't played enough of the IE games to see how my idea compares though... -
If they have the extra time and resources I think it would be a pretty good idea to make it multiplatform. If I had to choose between being able to play it on a console or having more content in the game I would have to the more content. I don't see a reason why they wouldn't be able to port it to consoles after they release it on the pc and make a decent amount of money off of it first. I think doing that would bring the advantages of bringing to console without the drawbacks of limiting how much starting content will be in the game.

Idea of having a competitive only rival is a cool idea and I haven't seen it before. It would make a great addition to the game, but I don't want only that kind of rivalry. I'm sure that any evil or possibly even neutral chaotic rival would not have a second thought about fighting you if he had the advantage. I think that there is a place for both in the world, as well as several different types of rivals in between. And speaking of which, judging from some of the recent updates it looks like there will be quite a bit of rival adventurers
-
I like the whole rival thing but I just don't want it come out like Pokemon where you two are instantly regarded as childhood rivals and he's a giant ****. The more like able are the more the player can relate to them which would make the conflicts much more grave when violence is involved. The rivals don't even need to be friends with you per-say, I just want them to have good reasons for what they do.
