  1. Your meaning is clear from context here, but: Hirelings are the generic premade characters (Skirmish Archer, Vanguard Soldier, etc) that you can hire to staff your stronghold. Adventurers or custom companions are the player-designed party members that you can hire to travel with you. Not trying to be "the terminology police". I point it out to prevent possible confusion in the future where the distinction might matter. Of course I guess you could call them "stronghold hirelings" and "party hirelings" if you prefer.
  2. Are Body Control, Mental Fortress, and Unstoppable broken? Or is the +10 bonus too small to be effective? I selected both Mental Fortress and Body Control for all party members, but my characters *never* seem to save against charmed, confused, frightened, paralyzed, etc effects. Note: These are not min-maxed or otherwise abnormal characters. Most are Obsidian-made companions, and none of my custom companions has a score under 10 in any attribute, so there shouldn't be any large penalties offsetting the bonus from these talents.
  3. DA:O. No, I'm not kidding. Its threat/aggro system might not be perfect, but it's a big step up from the IE games. Throw a fireball and a few enemies might break off that armored menace in front them to rush the mage. Or they might turn away from a fighter to smack down the rogue that's stabbing at their flanks. Don't see that kind of thing in the IE games or PoE.
  4. I've had this happen, too. It's annoying. I recall reading that casting a charm spell on a charmed party member will cancel the enemy charm effect. Haven't tested it. And it might give those severe charm penalties for the duration of the spell, so it might not be an ideal counterspell.
  5. @MouseHopper24: I also have the GOG version, Kickstarter Royal Edition, and it installs and plays on both of my laptops (Windows Vista 64-bit & Windows 7 64-bit). Not sure what could be causing the problem that you're experiencing. Some (probably unhelpful, sorry) general advice pertaining to GOG installers: Did you use the option to verify the downloaded files? Click the "Options" button during installation and make sure that the check box for "Check files integrity before installation" is selected. If there seems to be a problem with the downloaded files, try downloading again using the GOG Downloader: http://www.gog.com/downloader Did you accept the default installation directory? If you changed it to Program Files or some other system folders, Windows User Account Control (UAC) could be causing a problem. Reinstall to the default GOG directory (C:\GOG Games) or a custom directory (C:\Games). Some games need to be run as an administrator on some systems. To test: Right-click on the desktop icon and click "Run as administrator" on the pop-up menu. If that solves the problem, to always run as adminstrator: Right-click on the desktop icon and click "Properties" on the pop-up menu, click the Compatibility tab, check the box for "Run this program as administrator", click the Apply button.
  6. Not sure if this will help or not, but: Make sure you exit Black Meadow from the east side (to the right). Tho iirc Caed Nua should be showing on the map if you have the quest... so maybe this is a bug.
  7. TotalBiscuit addresses the topic: https://soundcloud.com/totalbiscuit/pillars-of-transphobia
  8. I didn't return to Cilant Lis either. Returning to Cilant Lis does seem to trigger the bug, but it can't be the only cause. See also: http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/75432-bug-disappearance-of-equipment-dropped-by-early-companions/
  9. http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/72532-bug-disappearing-items/ The dagger and scale mail that disappeared in my game had belonged to Calisca and Heodan, too, iirc. BUT I didn't return Cilant Lis. Returning to Cilant Lis does seem to trigger the bug, but it can't be the only cause. Also, other players are reporting (in the linked thread) the loss of a variety of other items.
  10. Came here to post similar woes: (Bug?) Rogue's Escape doesn't seem to work as it should. Most often my Rogue is killed waiting for it to activate. Shouldn't it be instant? And when it does trigger, sometimes it doesn't break engagement, stretching the engagement lines across the gap and killing my Rogue with disengagement attacks. Also, its jump range seems to vary somewhat, sometimes being short enough that if I don't manage to pause at just the right time to issue a command to move further away, then the enemy runs to my Rogue and engages again almost instantly. Seems near-useless. I think it's actually worked (meaning it got my Rogue out of trouble) once out of a dozen or so uses. My thoughts: Make it instant. Make it uninterruptable. Increase the range a bit or make the Rogue immune to engagement for a few seconds after the jump.
  11. This is ridiculous. Had Spiritshift suddenly deactivate in the midst of a group of enemies and got butchered. Retreat probably meant death because of the (idiotic) engagement mechanic... Was pretty much completely f***ed. If this ability had mentioned having a duration, I probably wouldn't have decided to play a druid. It is presented as if it lasts the entire combat (which it should imo).
  12. I've experienced this bug, too. Had a manual save disappear (not a quicksave). GOG version.
  13. Items seemingly randomly disappear from inventory. Has happened with a dagger and scale mail so far. They're not being moved to the stash. Just vanishing...
  14. Providing file downloads at high-speeds to very large numbers of people costs money. Servers, bandwidth, employees to create & maintain digital infrastructure, customer support, etc.
  15. Been a long while since I played NWN2... Doesn't he start with mediocre Dex and awful Wisdom? But I haven't built/played any PC monks in 3rd/3.5e... so perhaps those stats aren't as important to the class as I thought. :not sure:
  16. For the sake of our sanity, let's hope PoE has an equivalent of CLUAConsole:ExploreArea().
  17. On the contrary. I did not know a full respec was involved. I assumed that Khelgar would eventually become a monk as he kept going on about it, so I tried to build up to that, whenever it would happen. It's actually one of the few things that genuinely interested me the first time I played it, and I actively looked for temples, monasteries, and what have you to help it along. Eh, you said: It sounded to me as if you meant that you had heard about the option from other players. But if you were referring to Khelgar's in-game dialogue... Khelgar might want to become a monk, but knowing the D&D ruleset, even just the rules as presented in that video game, a player could reasonably assume that Khelgar would be unable to become a monk or that the devs would allow some kind of respec to make it viable. Without a respec, in order to make informed decisions when leveling him, you would need to know in advance whether or not Khelgar would actually get the chance to change his class to monk, hence you would need metagame knowledge. Again, I'm not a fan of that class change as implemented. Just don't think you and Luckmann have much ground to stand on in terms of being upset about the respec option for Khelgar. See above.
  18. Can't sympathize with you there: You were metagaming based on spoilers. Almost seems a case of "just desserts" imo... Been a while (a long while), but iirc: Without the option to respec, Khelgar's class change would have more-or-less required metagaming to be a viable choice, and that strikes me as very poor design. What might have been nice: Instead of gaining directly selected ability increases during level ups, his ability increases could have been assigned based on which path you influence him towards during conversations. Then when he is presented with the choice to become a monk, he could naturally have appropriate stats if you've influenced him towards that path. Or just cut the whole class-change bit because it doesn't work well under that ruleset.
  19. Also: should be: or: Should be consistently singular or plural. :|
  20. Typo in the Flame Blight box: There should be a breakline between "Level 6" and "Endurance". Let's hope those samples aren't from the final layout that went to printing... :|
  21. Thanks for posting that! And thanks for treating us backers right and taking the effort to match our tiers! Tis much appreciated.
  22. We are giving people Steam editions that we have matched to their tiers. On Monday I will make a post showing the different mappings. Also, everyone will be able to download their rewards from our backer portal, as well. Thanks for answering. That's great news for backers who use Steam. But since I don't use Steam, I have to ask: Will you be doing the same for GOG keys?
  23. I'm still wondering if we'll be able to make a custom party without spending a punishing amount of coin: http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/68638-you-get-penalized-if-you-want-to-build-a-custom-party/ Have the fees changed in more recent versions of the backer beta?
  24. Cool, glad to know that we'll get our keys before release day. Can you tell us if backers will get keys appropriate to their pledge tiers?
  25. Options on the preorder page: I <3 GOG.
