  1. The problem is that it's not entirely true. Starcraft 1 became a 'e-sport' by accident. The game was never meant to be played the way it would be by the competitive community. Point 2 and 3 are mods not sponsored by developers. 'E-sports' today is more of a result of accidents than conscious decision by any developer. That is has gotten a little more popular is purely due to internet finally allowing video streaming. everything competitive does so by accident. football started from being a recreation among higher class on british islands SC became competitive because of the blizzards willingness to support it and improve balancing and gameplay features the mods appeared only because the modability of the games was first introduced and then supported by the companies. But once these games received recognition by these companies, they went big into e-sports. Do you think that without support from those companies they would still thrive and be improved upon?
  2. I could probably write an essay in response to AGX’s post, but I’ll try to keep it short and simple To give credit where it’s due, it’s Blizzard and Valve that made possible for something like e-sports to emerge. 3 brilliant cases of competitive gameplay were created. A well balanced fast paced RTS with a lot of micro and macro intensiveness. – Starcraft Half-lifes mod – Counterstrike, which introduced team play and co-ordination to FPS genre, taking competing in shooters to a different level Warcraft 3 mod – DotA (it had various names at the start, but I’ll skip that) – introducing teamplay and various roles for the teams in a quasi RTS mode, with huge amounts of hero and skill combinations allowing for different strategies DotA 2 - taking the size and scope of competitions beyond what was known before with the huge event that was the first International I feel that the only other company that would have a moral right to create a documentary on the e-sports, would be Blizzard, but they did not. Valve has taken the competitions to a next level with their premiere of DotA 2 and the 1mln USD 1st place prize at The International. Some people might dislike certain games same like we dislike various food or sports type, but it does not mean we should belittle them just because we personally do not like them (and probably suck at them as a result) Just because the movie is based on DotA 2 (made by Vlave, duh) it does not make it a pure promo of this game. Similar things could be told in movies based on other e-sport games. Some games are not e-sports material though, and Valve recognized that by for example not putting TF2 there. They also chose it over CS:GO for the documentary, because it was not the CS:GO that they made The International about. Watch the movie for what it is, an e-sports documentary. If you won’t like it, then it’s ok, but at least watch it first before writing anything about it. It’s free you know, just 1h of your life.
  3. The bearded man is THE MAN, amrite?
  4. I've seen a glimpse of him once there
  5. I'm not sure if this is in the Off-top or Computer and Console, nevertheless I strongly recommend watching this Valve's production. https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=UjZYMI1zB9s It's about the e-sports and various aspects of being a professional gamer and evolution of this term. The movie shows very personal stories nicely merged with some history of one of the foundation games of the current e-sports scene - DotA -> DotA2 It is an inspirational movie that involves personal histories. If you are into documentaries, just watch it. If you ever were even remotely in touch with the e-sports and thought for a moment about pursing that direction, this is a MUST watch position for you.
  6. this game cannot come fast enough.... I want it NAUO
  7. well i'd be surprised if it would be like Skyrim... I mean we are talking about MMOs, where TOR looks like eraly KOTOR and WoW will get tweaks to its graphics in the new expac... I'm fine with that kind of graphics, as long as it will reduce the amount of lag
  8. Well I've been putting a lot of time this weekend into TES:O - Beta The PvP part, especially long sieges, are particularly addictive. The PvE is not really something I'm thrilled about, but then again i do not like MMOs and latest Diablo... TES:O due to its PvP campaign is the first MMO I am even remotely enjoying. And I chose to stay on NA megaserver even though I am from EU, because they have an Orc Guild there.... ORC GUILD...
  9. isn't that Syndicate themed game?
  10. If you want you can mail us at support@inxile.net and we can look into the issue. We might be able to figure out what's wrong to either a) suggest a fix or b) work on the problem to fix it on our end. We'd need the following files from you: dxdiag report, any crash logs that were generated and output_log.txt output_log.txt is in the Steam install folder; Wasteland 2\Build\WL2_Data folder (it is an output log of all errors) Generated dxdiag from in Windows\System32 or by going to Run -> dxdiag. Save all info and send us the resulting file. I've sent both files just now. If you'd like, I can PM them to you as well.
  11. WHY THERE IS NO SS3 THUS FAR?! - this is far more important question, if anyone remembers how SS2 has ended.
  12. I probably could give Arma 3 a try, but first I'd need to upgrade my rig :D It looked really cool when i watched some videos from ShackTac. By cool I mean slow paced, realistic type of engagements.
  13. When I read one of the Clan of the Cave Bear sequels, I really wanted a giant male cave lion so I could ride on its back. Just borrow a sword and a cat from the He-Man http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p9Y-JiRUIoI
  14. To be honest, the only way to be in the past, etc. would be to be completely invisible and ethereal, so you could not affect anything, touch anything, move anything etc. Even something seemingly insignificant, like eating an apple from a stand, could have serious implications for the future (because someone else would normally pick that apple, and instead he got something worse, which made him act differently, pulling a whole chain of events that would be different. it would be cool to watch things in such a state though. And I agree with the idea of witnessing the cradle of universe expanding.
  15. Well after some thought there are two things that bother me a bit: 1) You can't buy equipment and spells for your companions. I can live with auto leveling, although I'd prefer it to be custom as well 2) Game being short and due to that low number of Karma points. I mean. If you are a troll, your max body is 17. There is not enough points in the game to get that high even if you would dump all the points in that skill alone. I've managed to put 4 bars to lvl 8 - charisma, intelligence, decking, ESP control on my main. he sucked with a pistol but he was basically debuff placer, dialog head and one super cracker in the Matrix.
  16. Will we have Obs staff singing songs aka NWN2 bards in random taverns? :D
  17. Really cool adventure there. I wish it would last longer.
  18. I have another question? Why simply not make another espionage RPG and brand it differently? My only guess is the money required to pull off such a thing and getting a publisher for a tripple A title. Maybe Obs should look to get a deal with 2K as a publisher. They seem to be funding some good stuff (I am looking at the Trust they gave to Firaxis and X-COM mainly)
  19. Soooo since I'll be playing most likely Orc Heavy armor/two-handed/blacksmith thing for Daggerfall Covenant, anyone else from this forum that would be playing for the DC?
  20. Why are you forcing yourself through games? Play something fun instead! The only time i would be forcing myself again through DA2 would be in anticipation of DAI and possible port of game saves from one to another.
  21. I think they have added collisions for enemy npc's in the newest closed beta build, the beta weekend build apparently was fairly old version. Collisions aren't coming to pvp though, servers can't handle that many players with collisions. And the lagging was probably because of huge player numbers as the whole world was crammed in the NA server. As for the game, it didn't seem like a bad game... but it did feel like a weird elder scrolls lite single player game which was full of other people stealing your kills and loot, like a strange crossover between a single player game and a MMO. And with a monthly subscription fee. And you can't even buy a home and fill it up to the roof with skulls. I don't know, maybe if they manage to deliver new content as often they are promising they might survive the inevitable subber bleed after the first couple months, we shall see. If anything, the collisions should be in the PvP. Without it, it's very weird. You can't block off people, you can just run through them, etc., which is breaking PvP combats (less so on army vs army scale, but skirmishes of 2v2 3v3, and duels are biggest losers of this)
  22. I suspect, that the problem with homes is this = you have only so little space for so very few players, and there would be thousands wanting them However I do think that they should allow for guild houses, and only for a limited number, and those that achieve something significant for a given faction. (war effort recognition, wealth accumulation, etc.) The regular housing is out of question. Did you see how small Daggerfall is in the game?
  23. Hmm.. I've played the game last weekend. Quite a lot actually. 1) BIG lags on PvP maps... this needs to be addressed as right now it's hardly enjoyable. 2) Quests are standard Beths quests, so nothing memorable 3) World seems varied, although you are quite bottlenecked in your progression on maps 4) The Deadric Anchors events are not indicated in any way (or i missed something) 5) Needs some kind of announcement board/trading house aside of guilds I guess my biggest problem with that game was PvP lagging way too hard, other than that it's a 3D monster hunt, with ok graphics, but odd collision mechanics (is there even one?). Funnily combat is more fun in Skyrim than in this game. Graphics is also worse than in Skyrim It's my first MMO, but it was fun experience. Not sure though if it is worth monthly subs. I can have more engaging PvP experience in DotA2, and better SP experience in many other RPGs
  24. Russian naval base is leased to Russia for at least several decades, in return for semi-mutually beneficial gas deal to both Russia and Ukraine. I am not sure why you decided that it was in danger, but I am certain that Russian wish to keep its real estate in Ukraine isn't a causes beli to invasion. because the new government might just say "screw you, the deal was signed by the president, which we did not want to have". The previous president, just after the Orange Revolution, wasn't so keen on signing the new deal. Put yourself in the Russian shoes and ask yourself. Is it better to have a full control over a territory, where one of the most important Russian military bases is placed, or do you want to keep it and leave to unstable government and politics? Not to mention major dislike from nationalists, which got some real voice recently.
  25. To be honest I am fairly sure that this whole deal will end up with division of Ukraine and Crimea joining Russia. Russians have too much to lose there, the naval base of Black Sea's Fleet is just too much to endanger for Russians from their military point of view. Only someone naive or without knowledge would think that Russians would just look at that passively. Sure, it does not look nice and brings unneeded tensions in the whole region, waking up nightmares of Soviet Union days. IMO all should take a chill pill and then let it be decided by people in public voting, if they want to leave Ukraine or not. It's already a region with a lot of autonomy. In the end, nothing big will happen, no major conflict will erupt. I suspect it will end up in diplomatic punches and pushes, but eventually they will put a blind eye on Russians staying in Crimea and will get the promise of them leaving once the voting will take place, but since the population of Crimea will most likely vote pro-Russia, the case will be closed and Russians will stay there.
