Maps in PE will not be generated randomly, so when level designer design an area, s/he will also fill it full of objectives. So if there is random encounter, it will be an objective and depending on designer you may have also some other way to solve it than fighting. Objectives can be anythign from small task to quest, they can have multiple solutions or be very straight forward, like kill that bandit group that ambushed you. Adding objectives to everything in game is not such tasking thing as one could first tough as everything what you see and encounter in game is designed by some one. And actually it is much easier to design game with good xp gain balance when you using objective based xp system as it is much harder do create xp loops to grind or that mundae tasks, like defuse mine, will give player more xp than you planned to player get from your encouter as s/he will not get billion xp point for defusing every mine on your labyrintic like mine field, but only from that that s/he survives somehow to other side it.

Translations
Elerond replied to jerf's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Publishers are responsible about translaiting majority of games to other languages. In case of NWN2, Atari was one in charge of distribution and translaiting it and in case of New Vegas, Bethesda was one in charge of those. And why Obsidian don't follow standard format with PE it is because they self publish it and therefore they must themselves pay translation and make distribution deals. And reason why they didn't promise Italian transaltion was probably that they don't have right connections to Italian translators to promise translation before they even know how much there is material to translate. But there is always hope that they can find Italian distributor who is willing to do traslaiting by itself. -
Where is everyone from
Elerond replied to Sales101's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Might have something to do with time difference. This thread is about month old, so there has been plenty time for people to vote. -
In my opinion mature content is delving into topics like poverty and how it causes people to do things that are against their morale values. Slavery from such perspective, why people think it is justified (so not usual approach that people who have slaves are evil, bad or etc.). Prejustice from prespective that why they have born and whose agenda is to feed thrm to grow and why. Drugs from such perspectives as why there is drugs, is there some other reason to use drugs than self plesure, better and darker sides of hedoism. Mature themes that I am not keen on are exploitation themes like erotism (like over sexualised characters, nude scenes, etc.), sex for sex sake (this cover also rape for including rape sake), exaggerated violence and etc.

My brother was too lazy to register account for this forum so I put quote from him where he describes his ideas what kind things he would like to see in game.

8 companions: is it enough?
Elerond replied to RAE's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Eight depth character will suffice and one should note that they plan to give character higher depth than what they had in BG2, so one can't use straight forwardy companion numbers in comparison between PE and BG2 how much companions give replayability to game. But Obsidian's folk also metioned that they want to do more companions but they didn't feel comfortable to promise us more than eight. -
http://forums.obsidi...20#entry1241994 From this example you can see that character takes damage to both of his resources. And number of stamina points don't change damage correlation between stamina and health damage. So one could determine that stamina don't work as any sort of shield against health damage.
-
Stamina is not shield resource, it don't protect you health in anyway. Stamina is fast consumable combat resource which lose will weaken character combat performance right up nothing (character is unconscious), but character can aslo get stamina poinst back fast via abilities, spells and items. Health is slowly consumable combat resource which lose will lead character's dead/maiming depending on difficulty level. Character can gain his/her/it health back only by resting.

Ah, I thought that you would mention 'Regenerate' spell or special magic item. Even trying to compare this to ordinary health regen is soo fattttt trrrrollling that I can't see my screen from the fat that you generate. What is really trolling is to say that system which Josh told in his update has health regeneration as it hasn't.
