You don't "have" to trust anyone, though. That's entirely your choice. The sentence itself uses the words "if I had to....", as in, if someone put a gun to my head and said choose or die. I didn't say I trusted either. Though I will say Avellone has done more than enough to prove he is untrustworthy. How about I write it so Codexer's can fully get it. Of the two, Chris Avellone and Feargus Urquhart, which one "appears" more trustworthy based on the data that is available? Feargus Urquhart.

Just to clear a few things up in this post, which are understandable mistakes since it seems like you haven't jumped in yet until near release. 1 - Multiclassing is only unrestricted for the PC, and any custom adventurers you create from taverns. Eder for example can be a straight fighter, a straight rogue, or a multi class fighter/rogue (which is called a Swashbuckler in game). That's it, he can't take wizard levels, be a priest, cipher, etc etc. Even the subclass choices of companions and sidekicks is locked down. So even if you gave a rogue level to Eder he can't have the assassin subclass for example. 2 - Healing is overrated. Priests real strength is their buffs. Every character regens to full HP at the end of every fight in Deadfire, you only take HP penalties if you get injured. Getting injuries is admittedly a lot easier this time. 1 injury is not horrid, 2 is a noticeable penalty, 3 is you better rest right now, 4 is I hope you didn't like that character they dead. 3 - Single classing is still very powerful. The highest power abilities for each class can only be accessed by single class, so if you want those level 9 wizard spells I hope your wizard isn't multied. 4 - Multi class characters don't get extra abilities. Every character gets the same number of ability points to use as they level, they just get a larger pool to pick from. So multi class characters can be more versatile, but they do not get more powers per se if that makes sense.

At one point I almost backed to create a weapon, I was going to call it the "Puissant Orator". The description was going to be based around some of the arguments from the forum, it would be a pistol, and imply the owner of it always won their debates. Mostly because they would shoot the other person dead with it.

Portraits II
Karkarov replied to Amentep's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Maybe try Mikey Dowling - he'll at least know who to ask. (and yeah, that watecolour looks weird) Uh.... it is a little late in the day. The game releases on tuesday and is already pre loading on steam, you should brought this up months ago. If you can tell us what you want changed I am sure many who regularly read this thread could easily make some simple edits to patch up the watercolor to be more to your taste. -
Exactly. I don't know. Funny, neither do you, neither does Avellone. So when I point out how it could possibly be benign I am an idiot, because I have no data to prove it, but Avellone claiming it is nepotism and immoral is legit? Oh wait, he also has no evidence to prove that. You don't talk crap if you have no data to back it up, that was the whole point of my post. Avellone has a name on a spreadsheet, and gives no context beyond that. Either because he doesn't have anything else to offer (so no actual data), or because the context would make his point moot so he omits it (data doesn't play into his narrative). See I am a data analyst by trade. So one person asked what I know about Avellone? A lot actually, because he keeps running his mouth on the internet. Every time he does it, he does it specifically to hurt his former employer, and he has done it multiple times over multiple years. That says he holds a grudge, is likely very petty (in his own words he is rich now, it isn't like whatever deal he got from Obsidian actually hurt him), more than likely extremely self centered, and likely has a massive ego. He also only ever says it on RPG Codex, which tells me more. It tells me he knows he has no real argument, because if he had real evidence to prove Feargus was unethical he would release it to a real news source. It tells me he is probably cowardly at heart, because he only ever posts this stuff on Codex, which is the safest space in the internet for Avellone. On any other forum he might face a critical reception, or hard analysis of what he is actually saying. What do I know about Feargus? Not much. He runs a profitable company, he has not risen to the bait and replied to Avellone, his company does in fact do Charity work, and he did expense a big ass party for his team to celebrate a game release because they deserved some reward more than their normal paycheck. If nothing else that tells me he is at least a decent business man and manager, otherwise Obsidian would not have held on this long. He gives at least half a crap about his employees, or why give the party? Also he isn't dumb enough to fall for Avellone's bait, which means he has common sense, and values his companies reputation more than replying to personal attacks. So yeah, if I had to trust one over the other, the data I have says I should trust Feargus. Unlike Avellone, he has never publicly tried to disparage former coworkers and business partners, or done anything blatantly self serving. That's good enough data for me. PS: for all of you wondering why RPG Codex not being on this forum much at all anymore is a good thing, look at this thread. Now make threads like this pop up weekly. Yeah.

Let's play a game. You own a profitable construction company that builds houses. You find out your parents apartment has electrical issues and water leaking problems, the super refuses to fix them and wants to charge your parents for part of the costs to do it, claiming it was caused by their usage. You review their lease agreement, and it does have clauses stating if the property can prove the damage was due to renters they are not required to pay. Do you say .... Tough, deal with it on your own? Do you say.... get legal aid for your parents? Do you say.... go oh wait I own a profitable construction company why don't I just build my parents a new home and cover whatever fees this jerk is aiming at them? I hope you didn't pick option three you immoral piece of crap nepotist! Oh wait... that's only the most logical, humane, and decent option though? I guess nepotism isn't as simple as people thought. Unless you are suggesting you aren't actually going to pay your workers when they build the home? I wonder how much Feargus wife makes? Oh wait he doesn't know does he? Ok, so her pay could be deducted for Feargu's pay? Could be she makes almost nothing and simply gets a living wage to cover food/car? Could be she donates it all on behalf of her and her husband to her favorite charity? You don't know, do you? Speaking of charity, is there any charity work on the company expenses? Your not sure, you don't want to say? Hey that "unethical" stuff is actually unethical or is that just your opinion? Oh just your opinion, okay. Is it even illegal? Oh it isn't? Hey how much did that Eternity release party cost to celebrate Eternity 1 with the whole team? Oh that expense was okay, you needed a night of boozing and partying? I see. Anyone buying this guys crap deserves to choke on it, just please never get involved in business because I would hate to be one of your employees destined for failure and a lost job because you believe good business decisions are "unethical".

No, it seems like the response of someone who has dealt with dumb asses like Avellone in the real world, many times. I have zero tolerance for his type of person, they are nothing but problems waiting to happen.

Uh as a guy who works in the real business world I will say this. Avellone is a moronic diva cancer. Anyone who hires him is a world grade lackwit. Never EVER believe a one sided story about "business corruption and employee mistreatment" if only one person is singing it and there is no substantiating evidence. Especially when this "news" doesn't come out until a critical moment for that company financially, and isn't being run by actual news outlets. Here is the real meaning to all of this. Avellone is a douche bag, and he wants to financially hurt his former employer because they didn't cater to whatever BS he tried to pull when he worked there. I am always amazed when anyone thinks this scumsucker is worth emulating, much less a good writer. Go read read some decent literature, video games are not the bastion of world class writing, and he is no where near a great author. Professionally he is a walking example of what not to do.

Portraits II
Karkarov replied to Amentep's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
You don't need a mod, there is already guides on this very forum on how to do it. I know, I wrote the one for Eternity. It is REALLY easy, click and drag even. You just have to name them in the right format. -
I wonder if they will have an option for GoG players by release. I am sort of wondering why I bother entering the codes knowing I am going to play on GoG

Portraits II
Karkarov replied to Amentep's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Pre Load? No. Full game release? Yeah, it will take all of 5 seconds. They are stored in the exact same filepath they were for Eternity 1, just the parent folder is now Deadfire. Portrait wise nothing changed, except for the inclusion of the two water color versions. Same file path, same naming conventions, same resolution, same PNG recommended, yada yada. -
I see even you are capable of making that most classic mistake. You are applying logic, in an forum thread on the internet, on a niche website dedicated to a rules/mechanics heavy RPG. That blunder is only slightly less famous than engaging in a land war in Asia. Seriously though people, there is 0 reason to believe Deadfire will not be more successful and well received than Eternity 1. Reviewers who got early review copies, and have tweeted their thoughts, have all basically universally liked the game. I recall one where the guy said it was "a game of the year contender". Additionally the Backer Beta at this point is worth less than monopoly money. We know it is versions behind, we know they have adjusted the gameplay since that version likely multiple times. Hell, we know it was not the most recent version of the game on the day they released it as the latest backer beta even. So we should probably stop holding it up as an example of how the game will play in all regards. It didn't hold water in Eternity 1, it won't in Deadfire. But to avoid falling into the logic pit trap myself..... God Deadfire is gonna suck! If only the MC was Commander Shepard (from ME2 obviously), the game had 50% VO only, and Rammstein had made the main theme song. Then this game would like rock for real!

Ug BG2 comparisons. Spoiler Alert, it will not be BG2. Let's judge the game based on it's merits, not it's ability to match nostalgia goggles or multiplayer RPG's based on comedy. As for Codex, it isn't "strong opinions" that is the issue. It is the completely backwards thinking, spam, and general negativity that is an issue.

Portraits II
Karkarov replied to Amentep's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Just a heads up, not all of those are correct. For example Ydwin's portrait has been updated since the one in that page was added. Also Jesus, are most of those portraits NOT companions from Deadfire. There is strong reason to believe most of them wont even be in the game. Et tu Heodan?
