  1. Stuff is going to get cut regardless. It's inevitable. I'd bet all my money on it being a guarantee. Because quality content is quality content? I actually rarely even buy DLC, but for example I did pick up all the DLC for New Vegas because they are great and Sawyer released a mod that made them even MORE great. Like I said, you are paying way too much for a DLC that only accounts for a very, very insignificant part of a game. And this is a crowd funded game, once the fund is used to make the complete game, that's it. What do you want them to do, start a Kickstarter for DLC?
  2. This is a crowd funded game, no need for DLC seriously. The funds raised will be used to make the game, then its time to move on. Unless you guys want Obsidian to cut stuff out and sell them as DLC. Well I don't, I expect to get the full game. Why would anyone want DLC is beyond me. You just don't get it. Expansion packs are large additional contents to the game. Stuff that you develop after the base game is done and out the door. DLC are just minor stuff that should have been in the game but instead you are charged 1/6 of the price of a full title for a minor item that wouldn't account for 1/100 of the game. I'm not even sure if you really know what expansion packs are or you are just blindly defending DLC for some weird reason.
  3. I hope the Steam version will support cloud save. Why go through the trouble when Steam already support it. It works in the background without the need for user intervention, so should we lose our save file due to system reformatting, hard disk stop working or whatever, we know the latest save file is already in our cloud save. Valve provides Steamworks for free, so there's really no additional cost for Obsidian to enable that feature for Steam users.
  4. More info and more complexity for me. I don't want a dumb down action RPG. If I wanted an action game I'll play Diablo 3 which I do. But I hope PE will be similar to that of Baldur's Gate or similar RPG games.
  5. I apologize for a silly question, but this has been bugging me for awhile. I noticed Obsidian mentioned games like Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale and Planescape which are games that are based on Advance Dungeons and Dragons rule set. So I'm under the impression that Project Eternity will be based on AD&D rule set as well? I've been looking around but I couldn't find any explicit confirmation of whether this project will be based on AD&D rule set, a modified version or something else. If anyone knows what rule set do Obsidian plans to us (or am I crazy to think there's any need for a rule set at all) do let me know. Thanks
  6. I don't see how the game, being isometric, can be used with VR headset. I can see your point, but isometric isn't trying to simulate a pen and paper game where we view it from a first person's perspective. Its a completely different game if you are trying to build a pen and paper game. VR headset would be more appropriate for first person perspective games like The Elder Scroll series.
  7. I believe designing a new engine from ground up would be very costly and time consuming, this project's budget probably doesn't allow it. I think the better option would be to license one of the existing engine. These engines are probably well polished and so on which will make designing the game easier.
  8. Except that EA is not making good use of the company. They are even worse now under EA. Look at Command and Conquer. EA bought the original company, screw them over, and now Command and Conquer is becoming a F2P online game. This is a decision that EA made, so they are responsible for ruining the franchise. What matters is what's happening now, and EA is responsible for the games they are putting out in present day.
  9. Looks like its just for one day. Now the donation rate is at an all new low today, which is to be expected as most of us have already pledge DRM or not. Now we have to hope for some other announcement that that will spike the interest in this project again.
  10. No DLC please. That's just a lazy way of getting more money by withholding contents. You guys need to remember that this is a crowd funded project. Why would you want DLC after pleading so and so amount of money for the project already. Don't know about you but I'd prefer getting the complete game rather than just a part of it and having to buy the rest through DLC. Just make the complete game and move on.
  11. I tried looking around and I honestly still couldn't find anything that addresses the confusion here. The problem is, by "all previous rewards" does it refers to $35 or #50 tier? Because $50 is an additional tier, and its a digital only tier, so as such, Obsidian may assume it to be a branched out tier, rather than being part of the hierarchy. In that case, when you look at the $65 tier, the all previous rewards may STILL refers to the $35 tier, and not the extra $50 tier.
  12. DIABLO 3 DRM is actually just through Battle.net account The reason why you need a connection all the time is because the game works like an MMO. Everything happens on server side, when you hit a monster, you tell the server to hit that monster, and it will calculate the damage, and generate the drops you get. Its really like an MMO game, except you're playing alone. This game, PE, is a single player game, not MMO so no worries. You don't need any server to play it.
  13. Digital rights management. Its basically a means of controlling your access to a software. Its aim is to tie a game to a specific person like your Steam account or your Battle.net account (if you play Blizzard games). There are other more extreme DRM that requires you to be online all the time to play, it is said that such DRM aims to prevent piracy but we know that's just BS. Games get pirated no matter what protection. So the real aim by the company is just to tie a game to your account so you cannot share it with others, resell it or give it to others.
  14. Well I can totally understand why one would be against DRM Its just I'm just surprise that many people are able to avoid caving in because DRM is so common now . I dislike it too when Half Life 2 needed Steam. Its such a bizarre concept. But now, what can we do. Most games out there requires it and eventually its something I get used to. Steam, Origin and Uplay. I wonder what I have to install next.
  15. That's the vibe I'm getting.. I mean, don't you guys play AAA games too? I know I do and these games have DRM in one form or another. Its hard to avoid DRM unless you stick to indie games or something.
  16. That's my general opinion too. Certainly not for initial beta's .... perhaps when they're very close to finishing and want a much bigger beta pool, they could mail out invites to all backers at that time. But initially ... yeah, I'm going to agree with any of the others who don't want/don't think beta access for all backers is a good idea. There are 2 things you test in QA. Game balance and technical issues. Game balance is a difficult subject so lets leave this out. As for technical QA, yes, you want as many players to test them out because the best way to detect a bug is to brute force test it. Have many people put the game through its pace, and hope that the more obscure bug will rear its ugly head. You have to remember that everyone plays the game in a different way and there are many ways to play a game. There's no way you can get even a small group to cover all possible permutation. No matter how you try to figure out how to do something, there will always be someone else who comes up with another way you didn't think of. This is why we have open beta for many games out there.
  17. I doubt so. 6 million people bought Diablo 3 on the first week knowing pretty well that you need their server to play a single player game. One may say the chances of Diablo 3 server staying up is lesser than Steam because its specific to one particular game, and once Diablo 4 comes out, well... But the reality is, most gamers don't care about DRM. Most people are more than happy to buy a game, play it and move on to other games. And these are the group of gamers AAA publishers target. So nothing is going to change really.
  18. It requires you, however, to activate the game before playing and having Steam running whenever you're playing. Which is what is meant with DRM. When Steam goes bankrupt or offline, you cannot install and play any game. Valve have always maintained that Steam will be patched should the service ever close down for whatever reason. The reality is, AAA games will always require DRM. I take it that you don't play games like Assassin's Creed or Battlefield 3 or, well you get the idea. Fine if you don't but for the rest of us, DRM is fine for us perhaps even a small price to pay, so there's really no point trying to argue whats bad and what isn't. 6 million peopled bought Diablo 3 although Diablo 3 require specific server to be up. Its just a matter of different choice.
  19. Yes, it will be all the same, just different way to pay them the money. Unless Obsidian decided to do something different but I doubt. No reason for them to do something else.
  20. That's true, but I doubt even with 2 or 3 million, there's enough money to hire many professional QA. So any help the fans can give is good. Besides, other games do have public beta test too just to test it by sheer brute force and hopefully some obscure bug will show itself up. So while game balance would be difficult to test, technical test like bug searching can benefit more from having a large number of people playing the game.
  21. Big publishers like EA have their band of lawyers who can sue you just because of the way you look at them if they wanted to. So I think Obsidian probably don't want to risk getting into any legal trouble. It won't make any difference for them now since their project is fan funded and they don't have to deal with them anymore.
  22. It says you can choose. So I think you can only choose one. Get a Steam key or GOG key I guess. And I think that's fair since we're paying for 1 copy only.

  24. +1 for FLAC too C'mon, its 2014, I'm sure storage and bandwidth is not a problem for lossless format.
