Did i gimp myself
sparklecat replied to Enchilada's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Temple of Eothas for the +10 Will cloak. I've seen armour with +15 Will in... Defiance Bay, I think, as well, but I couldn't tell you offhand if it's otherwise good for a fighter. -

The archive? People are hostile to you in the Duc's palace? -

I was just murdered in seconds by a group of ogres, so maybe things are looking up in Act 3? -
"Parable of Wael" Bugged
sparklecat replied to patriot247's question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
Zrin, if you turned them hostile by stealing from them, then it's not really a bug if you can't complete their other quest. -

Oh, that's true, the spore room in Cliaban Rilag was actually hard; had half my party knocked out during that fight. -
No immunities

Yeah, I think leaving this out was a big mistake. I like my fictional worlds to have internal logic. -
There's no contradiction, incidentally, between having complaints, even major ones, and still thinking positively of the game. The keep is terribly implemented and arguably goes beyond pointless into being a net negative. XP is handed out much too generously and you end up vastly overlevelled unless you skip large parts of the game. Hard mode is not sufficiently hard, thanks to this. Balance otherwise still needs some work. Defiance Bay feels too small, IMO; I'd have preferred one huge, densely packed city, rather than this ~4 significant interior spaces per map thing. I think there's a bit too much pointless, unavoidable combat in some areas that make clearing out the truly large maps - the dungeon ones - tedious. I'd very much have liked to see my personal character build choices more reflected in conversation - I can't discuss Waidwen or Eothas with Eder when I'm a priest of Eothas? Pallegina apparently doesn't have anything to say about you being a godlike? Dispositions being noted in conversation was very well done, but it feels like otherwise they dropped the ball. It's still fantastic.

I was level 7 or 8 as well; didn't rest once. Didn't even use all my spells. Eder was barely touched, yeah, but nobody except Kana went under half health, and that only because he stepped on a trap I didn't see in time. -
Possible Bug in Sanitarium
sparklecat replied to teh_elgee's question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
Depends what you mean by screwed. Are you prevented from progressing with the main plot? If so, load the save from before, turn it down to easy, and take half an hour to redo the Sanitarium. -
Problem in Raedric's Hold
sparklecat replied to deathhawk's question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
Look for the other threads on this subject here; a developer posted a workaround for the time being. You're not stuck. -
So your saves aren't, in fact, missing; the game just isn't seeing them properly?

Better without stronghold?
sparklecat replied to halfoat's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
As it is, I'm never going to bother trekking all the way out there to rest and get my useless +1 to a single stat bonus, but even if it were better, I think it could use something like a... Brighthollow housekeeper or something who's hanging out in the middle of the main map, so you can just talk to them if you want to rest rather than having to go through four loading screens before you can leave again. -
The problem with some doors being unselectable after the patch is known to the devs, yeah; as of yesterday, they were already working on it.

Better without stronghold?
sparklecat replied to halfoat's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I wouldn't really call the bounties worth it, either, unless I'm missing out on some really good items by skipping them; been hearing they give a ton of xp and I'm already overlevelled, I don't need to make it worse. -
Confusion has strange consequences
sparklecat replied to dolio's question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
As well, I would really like it if my confused party members would stop switching their weapons. -

It can't work when you have people doing very few side quests and others doing every single one before advancing the main plot. Unless you are suggesting to remove all XP rewards from side quests you can't balance the game for every single playstyle. Everybody is playing the game at they own pace. What we're saying is that there shouldn't be such a huge gap, so that the only way to maintain a decent challenge is to skip much of the game. It doesn't bother me as much that the main path stuff winds up too easy (though I think some BG2 style level scaling of that would be nice, yeah), but I absolutely should still be challenged by the sidequests I pick up, and I'm just not; the last truly difficult fight I had was back when I arrived in Defiance Bay and wandered into Heritage Hill, and I've done everything available since. Additionally, we were told originally that it would only be possible to hit the level cap by doing just about everything available. I haven't gotten that far myself yet, but I've seen people saying they reached level 12 a fair ways before the end. -
I think this would be a nice feature to have for similar items (so from any one head item to another, or a necklace to a cloak, but not from one weapon/armour type to a different one). Obviously it's not a priority, but for the future, I'd appreciate it. Not that the following isn't a very nice hat, but I'm not sure how much it really says "I'm a tank." http://cloud-4.steamusercontent.com/ugc/531763737836552094/C1E7A1C3D450CC614AD6C7544D1BE1E5FEDD327A/

I was never using the two wizard spells that got nerfed, so I can't really comment on them; it's nice that Aloth isn't running right up into the enemies' faces to cast his spells so much, though. Mind Blades feels as deadly as ever. I think there's still a ways to go in terms of balance, but I think the overlevelling issue is the main problem, and where the devs should start before getting into the details of individual abilities too much. -
Keep needs a serious overhaul
sparklecat replied to Ichthyic's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Add in that I've taken one prisoner and he escaped by the time I travelled off the map where I fought him, and I'm thinking I'll just pass on upgrading my keep at all for future games. -

Welp. Given that I just cleared out Cliaban Rilag on Hard without resting once and still had a fair number of spells left at the end, yeah, I'm definitely feeling overlevelled for the main path quests thanks to all the xp sidequests give. Which is a real shame. eta: just to clarify, it doesn't stop there; I'm feeling overlevelled for the new side quests I'm picking up now, too
