  1. Well I'm sorry I tried to bring an actual female gamers perspective into the discussion... Frankly I'm kind of shocked people still think like some of the posts in this thread in 2012...romance and dresses? Really? ....sigh.
  2. Oh I'm sorry is your male privilege being threatened? >_> Poor baby.
  3. This. I remember some Bioware dev being especially proud that their female / male Shephard is virtually the same (aside from how the are addressed in the game). I always thought this was more a sign of laziness than anything else on their part. Well that 'laziness' is a nice relief for women who want their female protagonist to be as heroic and non sexualised as a male one. I guess that what I'm trying to say is that at the moment characters like FemShep are the closest thing to a decent female protagonist that we have and that's why they are popular. Let me try and put it a different way, sure the gaming industry can do better as you very rightly pointed out, but at the moment those are the characters that are popular with women because we don't have much else. If we want to be a hero FemShep gives us that chance without the extra baggage of being a character whose primary feature is 'she is a woman' and isn't there to pander to men.
  4. That is real life though. It's a movie power fantasy that people are equal. Look at all the "tough chicks" that are extremely hot and weigh 90lbs taking down 250lb men. Not happening in hand to hand combat if both parties are trained (and most of the time they are). Now if it's some ugly Breinne (or Cademugund it looks like) type chick then that's fine. In ASoIaF only chicks like Breinne could be "empowered in the male way", female characters have to survive with cunning. It's jsut biology that women will never be completley equal to men. And when they can be equal humanity itself would be so far advanced it wouldn't even be worth being called humanity (posthumans or transhumans(not trannys)) I bet there are plenty of women who could beat the crap out of you. People should be judged on their own merits not by their gender.
  5. We don't want them to be 'just like' male characters but we want to do the same things as a male character ie. Kill Deathclaws, Reapers and Dragons. No one is trying to turn video games into Twilight (ugh) like that guy I quoted was suggesting. I personally hate romance and dresses.... There are plenty of instances in those games where your sex is mentioned. Black Widow checks for example. I just really don't understand this need for men to have women portrayed as the bitches of every fantasy universe. When we have to play a over sexualised female character it's like a guy being forced to play as Edward or Jacob from Twilight, let that sink in.
  6. Did you seriously just write that.... /facepalm. SO MUCH FACEPALM. We want to be able to be heroes just like male protagonists that is why *clears throat* Hawke, Shepard, Dovahkiin, Courier Six and The Lone Wandererare extremely popular with women. Do you know why? Because we get to do what the male protagonists do without our character being a sex doll. I mean remember that dev who, when asked if their would be female characters in his game, said 'But how would we make them sexy' That is the bullet that gender swapped female characters dodge and they are much better for it. Hell sometimes I don't even care what other women look like in the game as long as the playable character isn't a pander fest.
  7. Well apparently there are nude mods for Skyrim that includes the khajiit. Let's just hope there will be an absense of those kinds of mods for P:E I somehow doubt the character models will be in that much detail... also the only way a mod should bother you is if you download it...so...yeah.
  8. As for the original OP I thought this article on the portrayal of women in Dishonoured might be a useful thing for the devs to read. It definitely matches my views on the whole 'sexism in fantasy games' angle. This is pretty much how it should be done. Not as a part of a male power fantasy (disturbing as that thought is) but a commentary on how sexism can both be damaging and pervasive in society. http://www.themarysu...o-tell-a-story/ In a lot of British mythology Elves are closer to demons and use beauty in a similar way to vampires. They are definitely not pleasant creatures. Pratchett has represented this in his work.
  9. Sir... did you just say meow? Do I look like a cat to you boy? Am I jumpin' around all nimbly bimbly from tree to tree? Am I drinking milk from a saucer? DO YOU SEE ME EATING MICE?...Meow.
  10. Those were the times! Bunnies can at least crush you beneath their disapproving gaze.
  11. SCIENCE! http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=TyXJ1sAQtaY :D Cats rule on the internet you dog owners have your 'sunshine' and your 'outside'.
  12. Both. In droves. A cat and a pink unicorn walk into a bar... The bartender says, "Let me guess. Lovecraft got laid?" He's now 'Wuvcraft'
  13. I approve of cats. Cat's Everywhere YAY! (I personally hope it wasn't a troll )
  14. I dunno what's worse the sexist and racist comments or the people here making excuses for them. White Knighting is a nonsense term made up by misogynists who are confused as to why their own sex calls them out on their noxious bull****.
  15. Hey guys I'm trying to spread word of Project Eternity far and wide :3 Adding more to that mega dungeon is great :D
  16. I actually found it pretty amusing like he's a teddy bear at a fair or something Hit 2.8 million get a Ziets!
  17. I'd like a witch doctor. Can't get enough of turning people into frogs or at least making them think they are frogs, which is probably more amusing. That said I really like the Enchantress from DOTA 2 (bear with me) She can convert enemies, when enemies attack they gets slowed attack speed because she enchants them and enemies take more damage the further she is away. She can also slow enemies and heal over time. http://www.dota2wiki.com/wiki/Enchantress I really like those skills, it seems like something different. I play her a lot.
  18. A water based race like water nymphs or something. I really like the Zora from the Zelda franchise.
  19. What horrible sexism outside of the stupid cards? Oh maybe the 'do stuff, get sex' atmosphere of the whole thing. Some of the female characters did a complete 180 in personality just to offer a roll in the hay, it was awful. Women aren't sex vending machines.
  20. By rural mystique do you mean horrible sexism? I understand that a lot of people here are fans but I'd rather anything from The Witcher didn't come near Project Eternity at all.
  21. So it's a setting with magic and monsters but the realism you absolutely need is sexism? No thanks -.- Women will play this game too and I don't want 'Hey remember you are not as good as guys!' thrown in my face in my escapism as well as real life. I don't want restrictions on my characters just because they have ovaries.
  22. Umming and ahhing over this. Some people saying 'punish the casual' by making him think about his inventory management, but really is it that hardcore to fill up on arrows at the shop. What I'm saying is that I don't really see how it has much effect on the game. I'm okay with having limited ammo but at the same time I wonder if it's not just busy work. That said, a system like BG/IWD would be fine with me.
  23. That is actually Jason Manley's work, he made the Icewind Dale I portraits. They do have a slightly similar style though Whoops lol. I do like this very much. She was one of my mages in a playthrough. :D I vastly prefer the Icewind Dale portaits to Baldur's Gate and I love the Borean Dwarf concept art <3
  24. I have to say that the Icewind Dale 2 portraits really sparked my imagination and I found myself building characters around those portraits that I might not otherwise have thought up. I am all for Justin Sweet he is awesome. My favourite was probably this one. She was always my cleric of Selune :3
