  1. Funnier is soloing PotD and complaining that there's a specific battle that's too hard for the solo character. Call me crazy.
  2. You misread. He said 'next to useless unless used as a tank'.
  3. Just to add: they highest level you can hire is 1 level below you.
  4. I'd go for the avian godlike as a playable race. While I tend to dislike having 'monster' races (i.e. the ones you slaughter throughout the game such as xaurips, skuldrs, vithracks, etc) as playable races in RPGs, I dislike the Pallegina situation even more where you have a race in the game world that's very obviously there (and can actually join your party) but you can't choose it for your main.
  5. Never been so glad to see the backside of a year than 2015. Just over 1 1/2 hours to go before 2016 starts. Here's to a happy 2016 to all.
  6. Yeah, seems to me he's asking if there are specific conditions that govern when you can cast it. (I don't know the spell, so can't help there).
  7. Try this: AreaTransition AR_0601_Stronghold_Exterior 1 Should put you in the exterior area of the stronghold.
  8. And how in hell would I know that? As far as I saw in this thread you never mentioned not having played AD&D games. You'll note I said 'sound like'. And yes, you'll get people pointing out how what you want is very similar to the AD&D rules. Because it is. Clerics (Priests) could only use blunt weapons. Thieves (Rogues now) could only wear leather armor and were restricted to a handful of weapons. Wizards couldn't wear armor at all, etc etc. What you seem to be unwilling to grasp (note I said 'seem') is that the folk frequenting these boards (at least the ones interested in discussing this idea) for the most part aren't interested in restricting the classes to that extent. You threw the idea out here and it appears it's not looked upon with favor.
  9. You sound like you're completely stuck in the old AD&D way of thinking about classes. There is no reason to restrict classes to specific weapons and armor. If it irks you that a monk can dual wield axes, then don't build your monk that way. It being a single player game, the focus should be on the player's ability to have fun. And having no arbitrary (and yes, they're arbitrary) class restrictions on weapons and armor is certainly more fun for the vast majority of players than class restrictions. With the exception of a very few items, I think Obs got this right and I really would be disappointed if they decided to go further down the class restriction route.
  10. He didn't say it was in the IE games, but was referencing the AD&D rules themselves.
  11. No worries. Just wanted to point out that, as powerful as nostalgia can be, it's not always what's driving criticism toward this or any other game that's 'inspired by', a 'spiritual successor to', etc. etc. Although I didn't find the game was more than a 'meh' for me, I see a ton of potential for PoE2 and would still have no qualms backing it (if they go that route) - although not to the extent I backed this one.
  12. There's merit in that. Unfortunately, I think that many people that post issues/dislike for the game are too easily handwaved away as suffering rose-tinted nostalgia glasses. Personally, I wasn't impressed with the game and felt it didn't meet the goals as stated by the devs in the kickstarter. Granted, that's subjective, but it's the way I feel about the game. And I have to say it's not nostalgia that I still find the old IE games more fun than PoE.
  13. Um, you can get Psychonauts on GOG for the regular price of $9.99, and if you watch sales, you can get it cheaper. It's been as low as $3.69
  14. Agree with pretty much everything except... I loved SoZ.
  15. Well, other than 'only usable by Paladins' or other class-restricted gear... But yeah, I like that they didn't go with restricting items to a specific character.
  16. You keep going back to D&D/Forgotten Realms examples. You need to wrap your mind around the fact that PoE isn't D&D based. There's nothing wrong with magic not being 'epic'. In fact, it's probably a far better thing that it isn't. Otherwise, what would be the point of playing anything other than a caster? Even though PoE takes its inspiration from - and is a nod to - the old IE games, at least Obs tried to shake things up a bit with the game. As for your point: As a result, you end up with a fighter of high level who hasn't really done much fighting? I think it is unreasonable, if you end up in this situation, you're not playing a Fighter. You're playing a sneak/assassin/thief. Why would you choose to avoid fights if you're playing a Fighter?
  17. I didn't particularly care for the game itself either (for me this had more to do with the mechanics, story and layout), but to call the game an 'unfinished, unbalanced, buggy mess' is more than a bit of hyperbole.
  18. Careful, whippersnapper, there are those of us that get along just fine without that little blue pill, thank you very much.
  19. Doesn't that describe pretty much every damned CRPG ever made though?
  20. I know they changed some of the mechanics on this, but it's been known pretty much since release that backer NPCs are a rich source of gear and money.
  21. I'm waiting until the second expansion drops and then will wait to see what the word is on patching beyond that. I played through the game just after release and wasn't all that impressed with it. Patching has changed it a lot and it's looking to be far different than the release. But I find I'm just not feeling compelled to play through the game again. So I'm waiting, in the hope that when the game has all its content released and the patch cycle is finished or at least winding to a close, I'll start it again and feel more inclined to run through to the end.
  22. Because after finishing the main story the game is over, duh. Yeah that's the problem. I'd rather play an expansion that continues the story than adds side stuff to the main game. It's also not practical. One that has finished the main story before the expansion was out (like me) has to load a save, go back, finish the expansion and then return to finish the game once more. But wait! There's gonna be two parts of the expansion! So even if you've finished part 1 you'd better wait for part two before finish the game, 'cause if you do finish it then you'll have to load a save, go finish expansion part 2 and then re-finish the game for the thrid time! For someone like me who never plays an rpg twice it's a bit annoying. Although I have to admit, Pillars is the only rpg tempting me to re-play it. Sometime. If someone hasn't played Pillars yet, it is better to wait for the 2nd expansion to get published and play the whole package. They've changed so much of the game since release (and will probably change a bunch more before part 2 drops) that you'd probably feel like you're playing a brand new game anyway if you started a new run after the second expansion releases.
  23. The expansion is intended for you to start around level 6 or 7 (you can scale encounters for higher level parties, but it's intended to be kind of in the middle of the game). So it's probably best to have it installed for your first run through.
  24. I'm not looking for realism. But some internal logic is always nice. If you want to artificially restrict resting, there are better ways to do it, IMO, than giving you an object that you pick up/buy and carry but acts completely different than every other object in the game world.
