  1. 48. I can't choose a favorite, but my list of RPGs I've liked would have a lot in common with Elerond's.
  2. Currently not enough info about the game world or story line, but just blue skying, I'll toss in: Eternity: Lost Souls Eternity: Shattered Souls Of course, i have to admit nothing tops Soulyent Green yet. Nicely played, nikolokulus.
  3. Heh. Yeah, and 11 people saying they're in Antarctica. Just a stab in the dark, but I'm willing to go out on a limb and say that poll isn't really accurate...
  4. I'm in a similar situation. I spend the majority of my time on-line either checking this forum, or talking about this particular kickstarter on the other forums I frequent. Damn you, Obsidian! You've got my monies, and now you're taking my soul!!!
  5. I'm picturing a Roland of Gilead type of Gunslinger. Oooh, that would be awesome.
  6. If you don't mind me asking, why exactly would you still go for the Steam version when there is a DRM free option? As Lord noted, some people enjoy achievements and the services Steam offers. I know tons of people also like cloud saves and having their collection of games all in one nice tidy bundle. For me personally, having DRM free games so I can back them up myself and install whenever, wherever, and on whatever I want without restriction is more important. But to each their own. Now it's a win/win, as Steam fans get that option and DRM-free proponents get their option.
  7. I do, but as someone else noted, it's the principle of the thing for the most part for me. Although I've also been burned by three separate DRM schemes, so that's the root of my hatred for any kind of DRM. But the way I look at it is if a game's tied to a client, then its value in my eyes is severely diminished. I use both Steam and Origin, and between them I've got somewhere around 35 games on them. But with the exception of the original Mass Effect, which is the first Steam-saddled game I bought, I've not paid more than $5 for a single game on any of those clients. 5 bucks is pretty much the ceiling for me as far as paying for a game that's tied to a client. That being said, I've bought tons of Indie games as well as some older titles from GOG. All of these combined have me with a backlog of literally scores of games to play. So I don't really miss out by waiting for a AAA game that's tied to some DRM scheme I don't like to drop in price before grabbing it at a deep discount. Anyway, apologies for the slight off-topicness, but just thought I'd give you some input on your query.
  8. Just posting one more Thank You to Obsidian for the great news of the DRM-free option and GOG partnership. You guys listen to your fans, and that's very much appreciated.
  9. This is fantastic news. THANK YOU, Obsidian. My monies... they're yours.
  10. Holy crap. OBSIDIAN. Guys. Project Eternity on GOG DRM-free?!! You guys absolutely freaking rock! Take my monies. All of them. Thank you for listening to all of us that were requesting this. This is really, really great. Thank you and thank you again.
  11. Honestly, I'd like to see the female characters in armor, not the latest runway model armor-inspired bikini variant.
  12. I voted 'none of the above'. I don't really give a rat's bottom about achievements, but I know others love them. So I don't care if they're in the game or not, so long as there aren't notifications popping up in my face like "Achievement unlocked: Opened door". If they're set up so you can look at them afterward, but there aren't a bunch of annoying in-game notifications, I have no issue with them.
  13. I chose 'other/multiple'. I backed this kickstarter for 4 main reasons: 1) Obsidian. I love their games. 2) Icewind Dale series. I think IWD 1 might be my favorite IE game. At least, it's the one I've played through more times than any other. 3) Baldur's Gate series. Not as many play throughs as IWD, but I've lost count how many times I've gone through these as well. 4) PS:T. No need to say anything, really. One of the best games ever.
  14. Voted 'no' because I generally don't like firearms in fantasy settings unless it's a steampunk kind of thing. But after reading Tale's post, I can kind of agree with the reasoning there and can certainly think of some very interesting possibilities for it re factions, technology suppression by a ruling magocracy, illegal arms manufacture/trading, etc. Could really open up some nice plot lines.
  15. Look a little further down the page: As I noted, I've got enough copies of the games that I'm not willing to pay for one that has activation or client dependency.
  16. Not from me. I was pretty stoked about the BG EE release but when I found out it would be tied to a client, I said "No sale". I've bought 4 copies of the BG series to date, the last from GOG (which is DRM free). No way I'm paying for another version that's tied to a client. Even with updates, it's not worth it to me. Mods + the GOG version will more than suit my needs.
  17. Thing is, I see no benefit to this. All you need to do is buy a crap-ton of rations and you can basically forget about this useless mechanic. So all it introduces is just a bit more tedium at the shop keepers the first time you have enough gold to stock up. At least, that's how I see it. Again, I have no issues with food/water requirements if it's tied to some kind of hardcore option, but I don't want it as something required on every setting. I don't know. I understand that Sawyer's saying he'd like to work on something like this, and I understand people are just throwing out ideas. I'll wait and see if something pops out that looks like it might actually be fun. Then it will get my wholehearted support. But so far, I've not seen any suggestions that make me sit up and say "Wow, that would be cool for gameplay".
  18. Abuse? Why should you or anyone else care about what other people do in their own game sessions? Can you elaborate? I fail to see how it solves something tedious.
  19. Gods, no. If it was included as a hardcore option, then I'm all for it. I can always play on a different setting. But I in now way want to see it as a core game mechanic. To me it's nothing but tedium and not fun. And I wouldn't want to see the necessity of carrying food or water rations in the inventory either. It just takes an inventory slot with no benefit for the player. As noted by Kilroy, if it's central to a quest or specific situation, then that would be fine.
  20. I'd like to see a source for his statement. Otherwise it looks like he's just completely misinterpreting what Obsidian's been saying, as I've seen nothing to indicate Obsidian said a DRM-free option was tied to funding goals.
  21. PLEASE don't turn this into a discussion about the pros and cons of Steam. If you use Steam and would like to see the game on Steam, that's wonderful: you already have your wish. This thread was created to ask Obsidian to consider other possibilities for those of us that would prefer a DRM-free option.
  22. Exactly. We're showing confidence and trust in Obsidian by providing funding up front. I feel they should reciprocate by provding a DRM-free game for us. It can't be lost on anyone that DRM only impacts the paying customer.
  23. This looks like a perfect fit for GOG.com, so I urge you guys to think about releasing the game there as well. Related to the DRM-free concerns in This Thread, as another venue for release besides Steam, GOG would be an obsolutely fantastic fit. Please give it some consideration, Obsidian. I can tell you even though I've already contributed enough to get the collector's edition through the Kickstarter project, I'd buy another copy via GOG if it wasn't included as an option from the KS contribution and you guys worked out a digital distribution deal with the GOG guys.
  24. Yeah, thank YOU, Obsidian. So great to see a developer step up to make a game like this. This is the first kickstarter that I've ever backed and the decision was a no-brainer for me. Been a fan of Obsidian's games for a long time, so really, really looking forward to this one.
  25. Although I've already pledged for this proiject, DRM-free is important to me as well. I'd like to believe there's going to be a DRM-free option either digitally or on the physical disc. Really would like to see a reply from the devs on this. After all, without having to deal with a publisher on this project, this decision should be up to Obsidian. I'm hoping they'll choose to trust their fans.
