Ink Blot replied to Slish's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
No, it releases on March 26th at 9AM Pacific time. -
Official Keys Thread v 1.01

It releases at 9 AM Pacific time on March 26th. At least, that's what BAdler said they were planning. -
Official Keys Thread v 1.01
Ink Blot replied to VladWorks's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Nah, I didn't get it either, nor did many others apparently. I don't know if it was a glitch or they just neglected to actually send it as an e-mail update. I was periodically checking that forum though just in case I missed something. -
Official Keys Thread v 1.01
Ink Blot replied to VladWorks's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
And I personally have gotten nothing since then and the game is out in two days.. So a bit of communication would be lovely at this point. Then you missed This Update? -
Pre-load question...
Ink Blot replied to like00111's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Because a game goes gold weeks before release, at which time the content is locked. This gives the devs that much time to keep polishing and bug fixing before release, which then gets released as a day 1 patch. -

Then they'd be idiots. It's standard practice for the media to get a game days before the official release for review purposes. And nowhere that I can recall did Obs ever promise to backers that they'd get the game before the official launch date. Anyone looking for keys so they can play before March 26 is delusional. -
grimoire question
Ink Blot replied to Dekeon's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Kill a mage, you get his Grimoire. There may be new spells in it which you can use/learn. If you have multiple Grimoires, you can load them with different spells so you have access to more for the day. It takes some time to switch Grimoires. As well, this does not give you more castings per day/encounter, but you can choose from more spells. -
Keys ? When ?
Ink Blot replied to Skysect's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
No, they're not sending them out yet. BAdler posted to say they're hoping to get them out later today. -
Update 91: Closing in on March 26th!
Ink Blot replied to BAdler's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Announcements & News
You backed them based on their key giving abilities? Anyway day is not yet over so I don't see how they have done anything wrong yet. Indeed. Seriously, it's still only 9 AM here on the west coast and Obs said they hoped to have the keys out either yesterday or today. Hell, they've probably barely gotten into the office yet. There are still plenty of hours left in the day for them to get them out to us. People really need to take a deep breath an have a little patience. -

Someone noted somewhere yesterday (don't ask me to find it, as I can't recall which thread it was in - may actually have been this one though) that BAdler said that 'shipping soon' message is erroneous and that all units have actually shipped out. -
Update 91: Closing in on March 26th!
Ink Blot replied to BAdler's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Announcements & News
Maybe you should check the calendar, because it's only Tuesday morning here on the west coast of North America, and I'm pretty certain the International Date Line doesn't run through the Atlantic. -
Why is there no pre-load on GOG?
Ink Blot replied to Halsy's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Good point on the Linux/Mac. I'll admit I was thinking only of the platform I'm on. 'Windows blinds', as it were... -
Keys ? When ?
Ink Blot replied to Skysect's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
The beta key is completely separate. You get new key(s) and be able to choose which platform you want it on. -
Why is there no pre-load on GOG?
Ink Blot replied to Halsy's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I understand you, but I don't think I'm making myself clear. Let's say PoE is split into 6 .bin files by GOG. All they need to do is provide the .exe (the installer/decompressor) and five of the .bin files, holding back the last one until release day, at which time it's added to the accounts of people that own the game. You DL the last file and then you can install. Not exactly a pre-load per se, but at least it gives you a leg up on DLing GBs of game files. With only 5 of the 6 .bin files, you cannot install the game. Hope that's clearer. -
Keys ? When ?
Ink Blot replied to Skysect's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Dude, why you watching then? I'm pointedly not watching any streams of the game. Don't want spoilers and don't want to torture myself. Save yourself some angst and step away from the streaming vids! -
Keys ? When ?
Ink Blot replied to Skysect's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I stand corrected. I haven't watched that yet. Still, as Valmy pointed out, Obs hasn't failed on any obligations as of yet. -
Keys ? When ?
Ink Blot replied to Skysect's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
It's not even 8 AM on the west coast. I doubt anyone is even in the Obs offices yet (or at least, very few). If they get the keys out today it's still likely going to be several more hours. -
Update 91: Closing in on March 26th!
Ink Blot replied to BAdler's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Announcements & News
Yes, that's where it will be. Keep in mind that Obs is on the west coast of the USA. Right now it's only just after 7 AM on Tuesday morning. If they're going to get the keys out today, it will likely be several hours from now at the earliest. And... most of Wednesday done in SA? That doesn't seem correct. -
Why is there no pre-load on GOG?
Ink Blot replied to Halsy's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Actually, that wouldn’t work.I don’t need the small .exe to extract the game data included in the .bin files. For some time they used password-encryption on the .bin files, but their password generation algorithm has been found and published quickly. So they decided to just dump the whole password-encryption thing. My point being if they give you all but one last file, then you'd at least be able to have the bulk of the game DLed and only have to grab the last file to have the game ready to go. You can't very well play it without all the files. -

I think you have a rather skewed perspective on Obsidian's financial state at the time of the Kickstarter. -

While I agree with pretty much everything else you said, I disagree with this. I loved Battlestar Galactica but every time I heard the word 'frak' it threw me right out of the show. Sounded way too forced and contrived to me. I feel they should have just gone with the real thing and just toned down the amount of times they used it. Obviously, this whole discussion is totally subjective though. -

Might be the context. I agree with the OP in the sense that I don't like a lot of gratuitous swearing in a game, but where it fits the game/setting/lore, I'm fine with it. Perhaps Dragonfall (I haven't yet played it) is like Stick of Truth in that it completely fits (ye gods the f-bombs and other colorful language in that game! But it was totally appropriate for a South Park game). -

You need to ask GOG. They could easily do it, as they have to break their games into several files of 2 GB or smaller (or, at least, that's how they decide to do their games). Easy enough for them to allow people to DL the files and keep the final executable back until release day.
