The Oscar's thread
Considering Hollywood picks the winner, it's no surprise that winning an Oscar opens a lot of doors.

The Oscar's thread
I don't know whether she deserved it or not as I haven't seen the movie. However, the point is that she didn't win the Oscar because her performance deserved it, she got it because she has a long Hollywood career, the movie was a schmaltzy human interest story, because she played a character against type, and because the other four nominees were never going to get the Oscar this year. Two of them didn't get it because they had won it already and the other two didn't get it because they are too young and the Academy usually feels that in those cases the nomination is recognition enough.

That's about a perfect example of the decisions that made the Oscar a bit of a ridiculous award.

Fallout: New Vegas
Why the obsessive need for the fantastical? Every other game has supernatural elements.

The Oscar's thread
The Oscar isn't exactly the most respected award in the industry. Avatar not winning the big Oscars doesn't look bad for James Cameron, rather it looks well for the Academy. Low standards and all that.

Fallout: New Vegas
A noir RPG is waiting to be made.

Ahmadinejad's stance on 9/11
None. It would just be an excuse for the whole world to carpet-bomb Iran into oblivion. Iranian leadership would have to be a mass of extremely stupid individuals to pull something like that. And they're not stupid, of course.

He wouldn't mind it, of course, but it was just an extra. He has a couple already.

The Oscar's thread
Actually, I don't agree there. Cameron achieved exactly what he wanted. Ridiculous amounts of money, that is.

I'm not, in any way, contesting that.

Removal of all Socialism in the US!
You make the fatal mistake of assuming that people aren't hypocritical or just plain stupid. Specially Americans. No. If you meet anyone, anywhere, ever, chances are that person is stupid.

Removal of all Socialism in the US!
Well, the military is funded to protect the government, so I'm not sure if it qualifies as a socialist institution.

Show, don't tell
You mean McDonald's ads should be an actual McDonald's burger, then. For free, and stuck to a magazine. And it would still be too expensive.

Movies you have seen recently
Caught up on some movies over the weekend: Shutter Island - The direction is solid with some great moments, especially in the dream sequences, but it has a retarded plot with a twist that is announced 10 minutes into the movie. The Secret of Kells - A series of beautiful paintings with a nice, uplifting story that doesn't talk down to the viewers In The Loop - Excellent, intelligent political satire, with quite a few hilarious moments. It perfectly depicts how I imagine political decisions are made. The Time Traveler's Wife - A great idea in principle, drowned in monumental levels of schmaltz. The two leads work quite well together. (500) Days Of Summer - A shallow comedy aiming at depth, in the vein of Annie Hall and When Harry Met Sally. Works mostly because of Zooey Deschanel who has the part of another variation of the same character she always plays. Also, the soundtrack is almost my soundtrack. Pontypool - A low budget psychological zombie thriller set in Pontypool, Ontario radio station where the zombie illness is transmitted through the English language. Awesome. Up in The Air - Generally great,, with a large problem in the main character's transformation, which feels done by decree instead of natural and supported by the plot. However, its treatment of the firing process is great, never simplifying or trivializing the situation, and it's generally a very beautiful film despite being shot in offices and hotels. Also, Vera Farmiga does some great acting. Her naked body makes an appearance. Recommended.

What the hell does this mean? I'd imagine it means they are trying to make Fallout 3 combat not suck this time around.
