  1. So is that "Way Off Topic?" Cause I ain't about to drink no blood.
  2. i met a girl in west hollywood i ain't naming names but she really worked me over good she was just like jesse james How's the new(ish) SD, Kor? I listened to the new Audioslave today. Some songs seemed pretty good, others seemed pretty mediocre, but overall it seems to be better than the last album. Todd Snider - Looking for a Job
  3. I am a connoisseur of generic soda, and as such I feel qualified to mention the several "store brands" that kick the crap out of the big names at half the price. I'm not sure how many states have Kroger grocery stores, but their Big K Cola is a suitable replacement for your Coke and Pepsi. Personally Diet Dr. K is my favorite. Which reminds me of that Mitch Hedberg joke: Mr. Pibb is a Dr. Pepper replica, but it's a BS replica 'cause the dude didn't even get his degree, man! It's like, "Why'd you have to drop out and start making pop so soon?" Oh yeah, for clarification's sake: People from the state of Ohio call soda "pop." I don't know if that's widely known or not, so I thought I'd mention it.
  4. I never realized that Kula Shaker was big in the UK. I remember seeing ads for their "K" album in magazines back in '96, but it seemed like they fell off the face of the earth after that. I don't think I heard any of their "hits" either, although it seems they were a pretty big deal across the pond (I checked wikipedia). Cake - You Part the Waters
  5. I think the closest they came is the LOTR movie-games, which were hack-n-slash all the way. But as you gained experience you could "buy" new combo attacks. That's pretty much what you're looking for, right Hades?
  6. Man, I love Mitch Hedberg. "I saw a commercial that said, "Forget everything you know about slipcovers!" ... So I did. And it was a load off my mind. Then the commercial tried to sell me slipcovers, but I didn't know what the hell they were." Delroy Wilson - Get Ready Cool reggae version of the Motown hit.
  7. Powder Burns has some great songs on it. It's a very good album, but I don't like it as much as Blackberry Belle. Powder Burns is more of a rock album; the songs sound like they're built for arenas. It's got all the bombast, but most songs are missing the groove. By contrast, Blackberry Belle's songs seem to be written for smoke-filled clubs where the air is heavy and the music hits you like punch in the throat. Toots and the Mayals - Let Down From Radiodread: a Easy-Star All-Stars produced reggae remake of OK Computer. It's the follow up to Dub Side of the Moon, a remake of the Pink Floyd classic featuring several prominent reggae artists.
  8. Can't be any worse than a sixth Rocky.
  9. If the game is set in a 20th century world, or anything more recent than that, I would say not having advertising present detracts from the realism. Wouldn't it add to the immersion in a game set in middle America in the mid-50s to have a huge Burma Shave billboard out on some desolate highway, or a Mail Pouch tobacco ad painted on a barn? Not that that is actually a popular setting for a game, but... I've been playing MVP Baseball 2005 lately, an EA game, and they've got the atmosphere of the different stadiums down real well. A lot of that atmosphere, in sports, has become based on the advertising. Would it really be AT&T ballpark in San Francisco without that 80-foot Coca-Cola bottle? Sports games are one thing, but ads in other games can be beneficial to the environment, too. I mean, we've had soda machines in games for years now. Is it that bad to have the "real thing" there?* It can be done tastefully. If it's not, then it could ruin a game, that's true (like those screenshots upthread. Deuce Bigalow?). But I think this has the possibility to be a win-win for gamers and developers. *Ain't nothin' like the real thing, baby.
  10. Satanic Bible, Satanic Grimoire, we're basically arguing semantics here. But, the suicide note is what really tugs on the old heartstrings... "I'm going away for a long, long time. I'm going to Transylvania." Lemme guess, the sea was red and the sky was gray. He was wondering how tomorrow could ever follow today, right? Sigh. The Jesus and Mary Chain - Something I Can't Have
  11. Well I don't know if Kor lives in the mountains, but he might have problems with that nevertheless... I know he acknowledged the almost-joke, but I just couldn't resist. Anyway, I have a 27" non-flatscreen TV. It was about $100 a year or so ago when I bought it. At least it has some inputs so I can finally retire the RF adapter.
  12. That's a helluva review there, Muser. I'm lost on most of your reference points, but that's because I am miles away from your level of black metal lore. In fact I don't have any black metal lore... I'll give that second FYC a view when I get home tonight. First though, it's another hour of work and then some recreational slow-pitch softball. I should tell you guys, I'm a regular Bobby Bonilla out there. Except for the switch-hitting. And the fact that he is a large black man, and I am not. Natalie Imbruglia - Wishing I Was There
  13. That is a fantastic video, and it's just weird enough to do the song justice. And I was surprised at how good the FYC did on the Elvis tune. They even had the suits and the moves goin' on there! Wilco - I'm the Man Who Loves You
  14. NoMeansNo - Mr. In-Between Yes, it's off the new one. Rocks pretty hard. The local college radio station played it.
  15. "Listen to your friend Billy Zane. He's a cool dude."
  16. Does the BG1 ship with this "tutu" mod that I often hear mentioned as the definitive BG1 experience?
  17. Understandable. I suggest headphones. Although listening in the car is also a preferred method of mine. The Jesus and Mary Chain - The Hardest Walk
  18. Very interesting read. At my old job, I had a female coworker who practiced Islam. She worked during the day with the rest of us, so she couldn't use that method of circumventing the fasting rules. It was difficult, especially because we had to be on the phone a lot as part of the job - and she did it without a bottle of water or anything to keep the voice in shape. Every day she knew the exact time of sunset, and she generally had food ordered for pickup at that exact moment. She didn't ever drink alcohol either, although I think that was her choice and not dictated by the religion(?). We all learned a bit about Islam by working with her. It was very impressive to see someone willing make sizable sacrifices because of their faith.
  19. Ahhhhhh. It pleases me to see those trees. Early impressions? Oh, I can't wait until you make your way through this one. The Hives had a good sound and fantastic attitude, but you're absolutely right about them being repetitive. You really only need two or three Hives songs to have heard it all. I really liked their version of "Find Another Girl" though. Tom Waits - Bad Liver and a Broken Heart
  20. Awww..... I found the link, Kor. But apparently the video has been removed due to "terms of use" violations. Ooooh, Fugazi! Now we're upping the indie ante... Fugazi - Blueprint
  21. @TN: Pillow of Your Bones, Sweet Euphoria, When I'm Down - all great tunes from the CC solo tip. Girls tend to like Preaching the End of the World, too. @B: "3030" off that Deltron 3030 album is one of my favorite underground hiphop tracks. There's some other good ones on there, but I always come back to that bass groove and bombastic buildup. yo it's three thousand-thirty i want y'all to meet deltron zero and automator
  22. Tom Morello and Tim Commerford were on WMMS last night talking about the new Audioslave album. They also played five or six tracks from it. Most of them were better than the single in my mind, but still pretty much "meh." They're still not blowing me away. Although I hear Chris Cornell is working on another solo album. Euphoria Morning FTW! Ahem... Nerf Herder - Golfshirt
  23. Cake - World of Two
  24. I haven't bought any ringtones. I'm always on vibrate at work (unlike some people who should be strangled with a phone cord for the faux-classical crap that blares across the office every ten minutes) and I have a nice preprogrammed one that I haven't heard from anyone else's phone for when I'm out and about. If I ever bought a ringtone, I would want Guile's theme from Street Fighter 2.
  25. He definitely hits the topical stuff hard. And between dinosaurs and time travel, and other things he's written, he often stretches the limits of what the readers are willing to buy into. The books of his I've read have all been enjoyable, more or less. I haven't read the new one, mostly because of the yammering I've heard about it. Did anyone see the movie that was made of the Crichton book Timeline? I heard it was horrible.
