My old high school girlfriend sent me that song about a year ago, when we were conversing for the first time since senior year. It may be the most imaginative gansta rap cover out there, right up with Dynamite Hack's "Boyz in the Hood."

I like the beat, the flow, and the piano on the upbeats, Jamaica-riddim-style. * Edit: Except for "Dirty Girl," which sounds like a Kanye retread. And "Don't Ever ******* Question That." That song is very, very bad.

Great song. As far as FB's post-Pixies work goes, I am a big fan of Teenager of the Year and Dog in the Sand, the album from which that song hails. FB's first solo album is excellent as well, although it could have done with a little less cheesy keyboard. The eponymous FB&TC album is up and down but it has some great songs too. Show Me Your Tears is very good, it's the most country of his releases I've heard. I wasn't overly impressed with Honeycomb and I haven'et heard the new one yet. Most people steer clear of Pistolero, so I haven't bought that one. One of these days, I'll pick up Black Letter Days and Devil's Workshop... Am I forgetting any of them?

Not at all. 1965 is my favorite Whigs album (and the first one I bought, too). John the Baptist was the song that got me into them. I believe "The Critics" like Gentlemen the most, probably for the raw lyrical material. I think their other albums are great too, but the band hadn't completely distanced itself from that grungy-rock sound yet. They experimented with the trashy organ and porn-flick guitar on Black Love, but you still had some of that punky swagger, like on "My Enemy." 1965 ripped the tether and let it fly off into a funky soul wonderland. you can **** my body, baby but please... don't **** my miiiiiiind

Hey, I was just sayin. Neither of them are sublime in my mind. In fact, "Blast Off" is my least favorite track of DITS. I hear this is gonna be in that new GTA-ish 360 game, Saints Row.

Ahhhh, I see. Far be it from me to criticize the rotund bard, but I always thought "Blast Off" from Dog in the Sand sounded like a fleshed-out version of "Tossed" done in the Catholics style. Which leads me to wonder if one song morphed into another, like some sort of musical werewolf!

There is also a growing degree of acceptance for pot that is (rightfully) missing for the other drugs. Even the FBI has relaxed its policy toward marijuana use in the last few years. I filled out an application for one of their writing jobs last summer, and their drug-related questions made it possible for someone who had tried marijuana to be hired. I believe the caveats were "not in the last three years" and "not more than five (may be wrong , but I know it was less than 10) times total." I thought that was a nice change, a way for someone who was curious, tried it and then regretted it, to have a chance for a nice government job.

Nice dude, great song...I saw this guy open for John Prine a few months ago, he was one hell of a performer and since I have picked up all of his albums. Your Flag Decal Won't Get You Into Heaven Anymore- John Prine (long song title I know, but fortunately, the song is good) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'm still getting into the new CD. Right now that's my favorite on there, although the song about Phil Ochs is pretty awesome too. I've seen both him and Prine on their own solo shows, both fantastic storytellers and folk-rockers. The ol' Roofie Colada is no fun. I had a classmate in college that showed up to class one day looking like hell. He had little band aids all over his face (Nelly style) and arms and some pretty big cuts on his head. Apparently, someone put something in his drink at a bar and he ended up climbing someone's fence and jumping off into some bushes, as well as a bunch of other stuff he doesn't remember doing. The way I figure, the drug wasn't meant for his drink or it was dropped in by a gay guy. Because, honestly, how many women need to drug a guy at a bar to get him to sleep with them? Oh, and is THAT what "crunk" means? I always thought it was just the name of a particularly awful and creatively bankrupt style of hip hop.
