  1. Oh this forum isn't for the transients. Check the KOTOR fora for that, most WOT vets haven't set foot over there in years. This is a habitat for the folks who came long ago - for reasons that have long since been buried under the oceans and deserts - and decided to stay.
  2. That really should be enough to end this argument. Rules are nice, but immersion should trump it every time. Would it have been better if Nines said "Run! ... unless your constitution is above 18 and you have a discipline that buffs your saving throws and you have taken three proficiencies in blunt weaponry! Then you can fight it and possibly win, if it fails a few saves of its own!" As evidenced by by poor lingo, I don't know the WoD rules system. But I do know enough to listen to what NPCs have to say. That's part of the experience, and that's my point. I know PnP grooms gamers to have numbers running around in the back of their heads, but you can't just shut down when the game throws something unexpected at you that doesn't play by the rules.
  3. I saw that Hinder song on VH1 the other morning. I was mostly surprised they were playing a rock video that wasn't Nickleback so I didn't listen too carefully. At least they still play some videos, unlike MTV, which is content to show spoiled California brats obsess over tans and parties. Seriously, that Laguna Beach show depresses me. Posies - Please Return It
  4. 1. 23 (soon to be 24, but age ain't nuthin' but a number) 2. The blue of faded blue jeans 3. Music, video games, slow-pitch softball and watching Buffy save the world 4. The collective works of Greg Dulli, Mike Ness, Ryan Adams, Bob Dylan and Tom Waits 5. Mel Brooks comedies 6. Party-based RPGs, although I've only been playing them for a few years now 7. Integrity 8. 5. Most excellent Phil Spector avatar!
  6. That was cool indeed. The piano part is reminiscent of Phillip Glass' "The Hours." I remembered the music from a music appreciation course I took in college, and the numerous comments on YouTube reminded me of the composer.
  7. Well I've spend quite a lot of time on this already, and I know I'll be spending more on it later. I wish I could save my game, ya know?
  8. So I don't watch American Idol, but I know a lot of people do. Things like this make me wonder how many of those people create photo montages of American Idol candidates. And I would be there's an even smaller percentage of that subset of humanity who would dare cross the fresh-faced, nubile American Idol runner-up Katharine McPhee with the world's coolest lecher and epitome of the male id, Greg Dulli. That said, I don't think it's as creepy as the Garfield thing I posted a few days ago. (The song is "66" by the Afghan Whigs)
  9. Ornatos Violeta - Chaga This sounds like it could make a big splash over here. Catchy riffs and melodies, very upbeat. Their sound calls to mind My Chemical Romance without the histrionics and melodrama. And now, Afghan Whigs - Crime Scene Part One
  10. Yeah, heard four songs from it on the local college radio station. "No Suprises" was probably my favorite, although "Let Down" was pretty cool as well. The Posies - Golden Blunders
  11. Oh right, the dude running and the car. Yeah, that was pretty weird too. I like Radiohead up to OK Computer. After that they decided to ditch the guitars for beeps and boops, and they got real boring real fast. I still listen to The Bends every now and then. Great album. There was a guy I worked with in college who thought OK Computer was the greatest piece of music ever composed by a human being. It's good, but all the people like that guy just make me want to leave the pretentious art rock in the dust and go listen to the Supersuckers.
  12. I'm gonna have to pick up that Social D album... maybe at the show. Oh and is the Karma Police video any weirder than the Paranoid Android video? Because I swear I had nightmares after I first saw that thing...
  13. There's some good links in there. YouTube seems to be down for me anyway though, or else I'd find something fresh for ya, Mus. Oh man, I remember seeing that show on Letterman. That was the first time I saw WZ do anything but "Werewolves." Dave gave him the entire show to talk and play music. He was a big fan. Nice find, Kor! Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band - Prove it All Night Live in 1978. Man, the Boss could shred that Tele back in the day. (w00t) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The Lemonheads - Bit Part
  14. So is that "Way Off Topic?" Cause I ain't about to drink no blood.
  15. i met a girl in west hollywood i ain't naming names but she really worked me over good she was just like jesse james How's the new(ish) SD, Kor? I listened to the new Audioslave today. Some songs seemed pretty good, others seemed pretty mediocre, but overall it seems to be better than the last album. Todd Snider - Looking for a Job
  16. I am a connoisseur of generic soda, and as such I feel qualified to mention the several "store brands" that kick the crap out of the big names at half the price. I'm not sure how many states have Kroger grocery stores, but their Big K Cola is a suitable replacement for your Coke and Pepsi. Personally Diet Dr. K is my favorite. Which reminds me of that Mitch Hedberg joke: Mr. Pibb is a Dr. Pepper replica, but it's a BS replica 'cause the dude didn't even get his degree, man! It's like, "Why'd you have to drop out and start making pop so soon?" Oh yeah, for clarification's sake: People from the state of Ohio call soda "pop." I don't know if that's widely known or not, so I thought I'd mention it.
  17. I never realized that Kula Shaker was big in the UK. I remember seeing ads for their "K" album in magazines back in '96, but it seemed like they fell off the face of the earth after that. I don't think I heard any of their "hits" either, although it seems they were a pretty big deal across the pond (I checked wikipedia). Cake - You Part the Waters
  18. I think the closest they came is the LOTR movie-games, which were hack-n-slash all the way. But as you gained experience you could "buy" new combo attacks. That's pretty much what you're looking for, right Hades?
  19. Man, I love Mitch Hedberg. "I saw a commercial that said, "Forget everything you know about slipcovers!" ... So I did. And it was a load off my mind. Then the commercial tried to sell me slipcovers, but I didn't know what the hell they were." Delroy Wilson - Get Ready Cool reggae version of the Motown hit.
  20. Powder Burns has some great songs on it. It's a very good album, but I don't like it as much as Blackberry Belle. Powder Burns is more of a rock album; the songs sound like they're built for arenas. It's got all the bombast, but most songs are missing the groove. By contrast, Blackberry Belle's songs seem to be written for smoke-filled clubs where the air is heavy and the music hits you like punch in the throat. Toots and the Mayals - Let Down From Radiodread: a Easy-Star All-Stars produced reggae remake of OK Computer. It's the follow up to Dub Side of the Moon, a remake of the Pink Floyd classic featuring several prominent reggae artists.
  21. Can't be any worse than a sixth Rocky.
  22. If the game is set in a 20th century world, or anything more recent than that, I would say not having advertising present detracts from the realism. Wouldn't it add to the immersion in a game set in middle America in the mid-50s to have a huge Burma Shave billboard out on some desolate highway, or a Mail Pouch tobacco ad painted on a barn? Not that that is actually a popular setting for a game, but... I've been playing MVP Baseball 2005 lately, an EA game, and they've got the atmosphere of the different stadiums down real well. A lot of that atmosphere, in sports, has become based on the advertising. Would it really be AT&T ballpark in San Francisco without that 80-foot Coca-Cola bottle? Sports games are one thing, but ads in other games can be beneficial to the environment, too. I mean, we've had soda machines in games for years now. Is it that bad to have the "real thing" there?* It can be done tastefully. If it's not, then it could ruin a game, that's true (like those screenshots upthread. Deuce Bigalow?). But I think this has the possibility to be a win-win for gamers and developers. *Ain't nothin' like the real thing, baby.
  23. Satanic Bible, Satanic Grimoire, we're basically arguing semantics here. But, the suicide note is what really tugs on the old heartstrings... "I'm going away for a long, long time. I'm going to Transylvania." Lemme guess, the sea was red and the sky was gray. He was wondering how tomorrow could ever follow today, right? Sigh. The Jesus and Mary Chain - Something I Can't Have
  24. Well I don't know if Kor lives in the mountains, but he might have problems with that nevertheless... I know he acknowledged the almost-joke, but I just couldn't resist. Anyway, I have a 27" non-flatscreen TV. It was about $100 a year or so ago when I bought it. At least it has some inputs so I can finally retire the RF adapter.
